I was glancing around the net, and kept noticing a specific military modeller's kit popping up; tank traps. I saw the same thing on terragenesis. The type? Czech Hedgehogs. Here's a quick, rough&ready way to get good-looking, though not necessarily 100% accurate hedgehogs. 1. Cut up some sprues! You'll want two lengths: 2"-2 1/2", and 3" or so. You'll want 2 2" pieces for every 3" piece. 2. Make a rough 'X' out of the smaller pieces, and wrap with thin wire 'till stable. 3. Lay longer piece on top, and wrap tight! 4. Glue it! The wire will hold it together while it dries, and give it a slightly rougher look when done! I managed to get 6 done in 20-30 minutes, so they're quick! You can throw a few on a base and wrap barbed wire on and around them to make good infantry barricades, you can add scraps of card to make them decent cover, etcetera. Looking good, looking forward to the painted ones! Are you going to base them?

When a somewhat uninventive mate of mine got into 40k years ago he built some of those exactly the same way. Um, upon reading that line and realising how it reads I want to make some things clear, 1) I'm in no way saying you're uninvetive Dyma, 2) I was pointing out that my mate years ago was uninventive, 3) I was merely making the point that this uninventive guy managed to make something that looked good and was quick and easy to make causing me some amount of surprise. |

I read up on these during a period where I was heavily obsessed with WW2. They were assembled by welding/bolting three L-shaped pieces together, so I was thinking of cutting the corners off of some sprues and putting them together with some kind of putty or paste to look like a sloppy weld-job. I like your idea too, though. I think you got the scale right, too... they should be big enough for a desperate soldier to crawl behind and use as cover (see: Saving Private Ryan.) I think I'll try a couple and post pics later. Edited by Ninjamonkey73, Aug 28 2009, 07:05 PM.

Don't worry about it Ross; I wasn't going for anything spectacular, just something quick that I could always build onto later. Plus, as we all know, it's the pant slappage that makes or breaks a piece! NijaMonkey, the scale was an unintentional, but pleasant result of random scrap-bashing. I can always go back later and add scraps of card for plating, and if I decide to base them, I can litter the base with small concrete walls, barbed wire, and other goodies to make it more interesting, and offer more cover. |
