Well, we finally got the chance to play tonight. We were able to get in 3 games. I simply set up aprox 300 point factions to fight. The 1st game had the Living Dead vs Paramilitary troopers. There were 10 LD amd 6 Troopers with 1 Commander. All had Assault rifles. I changed one thing with the Living dead. If they contacted on a move action they were immediately able to make a Bite attack. I also went with The Rules with No Name activation. Red cards were Zed and Black were Troopers. A Joker ended the turn immediately.

The Troopers started to sweep into the abandoned town. They saw a few Zombies in the open and proceeded to cut them down. They did this to about6 out of the 10 Zed's. However, they kept regenerating and all but 2 were back up again. One fireteam was caught by surprise and lost a member to Zed bites. Two others were badly wounded. I made them make a D6 roll each turn on a 6 they would turn. Eventually after a few close calls the Troopers prevailed.

The second game had the same Troopers vs my Scav gang. I had about 9 characters. Some were just armed with melee weapons. There was an assault rifle, shotgun and Lmg though. This game saw a lot of manuevering to get the drop on the enemy. Finally, I tried charging Scav's at a fireteam in the Diner. Bad call. They killed 3 of the 4 attackers. My last Scav chick attacked with a sword and seriously wounder two of the fireteam while dying the next turn. My other Scav group of 4 was engaged in a firefight with the other Trooper fireteam. When the Trooper commander joined in they were wiped out while inflicting 1 casualty. The last Scav ran away. Bloodbath.

Finally, we ran a Terminator Machine vs trooper game. I had 4 Machines with minigun's. I jacked up their Lives to 8. The Machines rapidly advanced towards the troopers. Some troopers on the roof of the Post Office started firing at a Machine. They were soon wiped out while killing one machine. The other fireteam engaged against 2 Machines. They damaged one and killed another before dying to a man. The Trooper Commander was seriously wounded and scrambled away after damaging a machine. Game Terminators.

We all loved the system and found the card activation to be great! We will continue to use it. Nothing like having a turn end when 4 zombies are two inchs away from you!

I'll post some pics I took of the games soon. Nothing real fancy since we really just wanted to get a feel of the rules and factions in the game.

Thanks,

John

I'm a BIG fan of Chaos and unpredicatability in a rules set.Combat has chaos inherent to it. My rules of choice should reflect that. Many don't. I am impressed with Wastelands. It is very flexible with a very low learning curve. So far, I haven't been able to think of a background that the rules won't replicate. The archetype designs are a great asset to the rules. The design process become almost unlimited. Adding the Campaign system and you have a REAL winner!

I was looking for my Gorilla's so they could fight. They could go on a slave hunt. The boys want to game again tonight. Oh, one thing I did tend to adjust were weapon ranges. Most non pistols were at least 18 inches. Mg's are at least 24 inches. Shoyguns are 12 inches and pistols the same.

Thanks,

John

Well, the boys begged for another game tonight. I ran a 3 way game. It had Cyborgs, Terminators and Cannibals. The Cannibals were defending their territory. I had 17 Cannibals since they would likely face both other factions. The game started with the Cyborgs rapidly advancing and engaing the Cannabils. Soon a large close combat started. All 3 cyborgs ended up involved with 9 Cannibals. The Machines went ahead and fired into the melee since they could care less who was hit. When it was over 2 cyborgs were dead with another wounded. The Cannibals lost about 6 warriors. In the meantime, the Machines had revealed their position and were attacked by a large band of Cannibals. Another large melee started with the surnviving cyborg happily firing into it. He killed a wounded Machine and 4 Cannibals. The other Cannibals (reduced to 3 total by this point) decided to leave. The remaining machine (2 had been killed and one damaged by the primitive natives) then fired and killed the last cyborg. The game took about an hour and went right down to the end. Everyone loved it.

I have added another action option. The charge action. Move and engage in melee at the end. It seems like it may be the only way for really poorly armed types with only handweapons to be a threat. They sure are at this point!

I again took a few pics.

Thanks,

John

The charge and melee isnt in the rules? I have been using that as standard. :D In the real world charges happen so why not in a game?

To be honest I am a fan of much longer ranges than the rules have. But then it is a simple tweak to make them more to my tastes.

I agree about the ranges. Having such short ranges pretty much would limit the size of the games you can run. I figure 12 inches is about the minimum range.

I have also been looking at the Lone Gunman archetype. I really can't seem to get a handle on how well this would play. Having a max of two characters and only one sector really limits what they can do. He's tough. But if Cyborgs can go down in close combat I'm not real hopefull that he would survive. He either needs a LOT more abilities or more followers.

Thanks,

John
