Something inspired by this link, I'm not sure if it is from this board but I believe that it is: http://www.leondus.com/gaming/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=2 I wanted to make a large area of shacks to fight over/ around so this is a test of building materials and techniques with an eye to expanding the layout. As well as being their own settlement, they will make great alley shacks sandwiched between buildings as I am planning 5 or 6 building squares of the same size, 7" by 7". Please excuse the roofs, they are still unfinished as is pretty much everything bar the walls ![]() ![]() ![]() Plenty of lines of sight throughout! The base is hardboard, the posts are attached at the corners of the structures and then all the panelling is stuck onto that. In addition I built raised planked or mesh floors to give them an air of slapdash permanance and am currently building cabinets, bookcases and chairs as well as lots of smaller gubbins to give them a lived in feel. Rusty tin cans, discarded bottles, books both burnt and unburnt, cutlery, ammo and the odd makeshift weapon. Well, all that is yet to come and who knows how long it will take, that is always what gets me. I love the tiny details that make a model pop, but I can never seem to stop adding them and no model is ever finished... Ah well Thats the fun of it!Radroamer |

So, I wake up and get some coffee , check some ebay auction blah blah, jump over here and see see this thread Then I read about chairs and whatnot and your terrain is very inspiring. I too would like to know how on earth you get those shelves straight, mine always come out looking like a pile of scrap wood intended for the fire barrel lol .

Genesis of a Shantytown Part 2: Industry. I have cobbled together some more buildings for my wasteland settlement, as well as getting further along with the trial shacks: ![]() The roofs are finished now, and the ground has been covered with my special mix of scatter. I intend to make at least three bases of these little shacks, as they are quite versatile and I find them quite appealing and fun to make. The main thing that remains to be done is the random clutter. I have about 20 cans and bottles ready to go, as well as books, hoses, pipes, chains and furniture. I am currently working on a putty sofa for the open area. ![]() One of the new buildings is Water-Mart, your local purveyor of water (brown or clear!) petrol and 90% proof alcohol from the secret still (under construction...). I am planning some mafia style takover raids around the alcohol buisness (post nuke prohibition wars... what a combo). There will be bar stools, playing cards, a scantily clad barmaid (every modeller owns one) and a fat barman. An oasis in the sands. The smaller barrel things at the back of the bar are trials of kegs for the xxx liquor, the real cans are for the petrol and water. ![]() And finally I have made a two story building that may become a blacksmiths, a glassblowers or the local warlord's stronghold, I cant decide. Originally it had a balcony, but I prefer it without as a simpler structure. The ground floor will be mostly empty, with some storage boxes at most, but I am tempted to turn the first floor into a luxury apartment with sofas, burnt wallpaper and carpets, broken picture frames and a (broken) toilet, that might just empty... downstairs, as it were. Hi everyone, just back from holiday! Sorry to take so long to reply Ross, the stacked barrels are indeed chopped dowel. They have now gone, however, as i want a more rounded shape for my water barrels. They have become stoves in the shacks, as it suddenly hit me that heating/cooking elements were sorely missing from the almost-finished trial shacks: ![]() I have also (rather ambitiously as the floor is now covered with unfinished wasteland housing) started work on some burnt out parkland, with withered trees and scorched benches: ![]() I'm not sure how many more I will make, as the wire is a real pain and keeps slicing me up... Or digging under my nail for about a centimetre, which was the worst! These will do for now. The next big push is to get some of this stuff finished and painted, so that we can have the dining table back! |

Loving it, as usual. Love the trees. I want to do a corporate park to add to my Dead City buildings and i'll want to do those wire trees. Hope to get somewhere near your fine examples. |

Brilliant! Are you going to be painting up things (bottles, rubbish etc) to put in the shelves? |
