Hi all, I am new to this forum, indeed to all forums (i'm a bit of a luddite) but have really enjoyed seeing all the miniatures you guys have posted. I feel like I want to give something back, so am posting my current vehicle projects of which I am inordinantly proud So, what do you think? I cant decide whether to add more gubbins to the technical or not... As the main fighting vehicle, i am tempted to make it sleeker than the other ones will be: ![]() Originally it was closed people carrier sort of car, I sawed the back off and added a floor of textured plastic, a rollbar of thick gardening wire and then went all-out with the armour. A 28mm miniature can stand comfortably in the back, the machine gun moves and is interchangeable with some others that I have built. This is the main supplies carrier of the convoy, it still needs stuff adding to the side baskets: ![]() ![]() It was a slightly oversized mini cooper when I started, a lot of bulk was added with milliput before the undercoat was sprayed. Unfortunatly I had got the wrong kind of spray, it was the s**t bobbly kind for cars so I am pondering how to proceed, I migt just seal it and carry on. They are all 1/43 cheap toy cars from the pound shop, called Teamsters Mini Cars, costing £1.80 each. All the added stuff is scratch built or sculpted and I have moved the wheels to give the impression that thay have been fitted with bigger shocks for the rugged wastes. Here is the next addition before I start: ![]() And finally, this is a teaser of some terrain I've been working on for a while: ![]() |

Mate, that is some incredible stuff! What miniatures are you playing with? I like the sculpting you've done with the baggage. Some nice additions, can't wait to see some paint on them! |

Thank you The miniatures that I prefer are Copplestone Castings Future Wars, specifically the scavengers and neo-sovs, and some of the Foundry Street Violence range although I think their quality is more varied. Cant beat the extra weapons in the packs though! I am thinking of getting some EM4 savages soon, they have a that retro apocalypse look that I find quite appealing. As soon as I think that they are finished I will whack some paint on and see what they look like! Cheers, Radroamer |

Yeah, that is some great work. I like the panel on the left side of the first car. (Might nick that idea for my 69 Camero). And the ruin is gorgeous, is that made of the extruded styrofoam? Oh...and welcome to the Wasteland! Edited by Chrome_Cat, Aug 14 2009, 01:48 PM.

I'm slightly embarassed to say that I'm not sure of the difference between extruded and expanded styrofoam. Perhaps the easiest way to answer is that it is made of the disks you get under cheap pizzas, so probably expanded styrofoam...? Not sure. I have dozens of these discs as they are so useful, and having recently moved my wife is eyeing them up as "rubbish" now that they have come out of their hiding place! I have so much beautiful and irreplaceable rubbish... |

The foam you've used is great actually. I have some sheets of it at home, and they're not very expensive. You can actually curve it around things if you're clever & careful enough. I have started making some buildings out of it but, well, you know how it is It is great for drawing in bricks though.Welcome to the Wastes! I think this calls for a...

The sun went down and the ground started sort of grinding. A blinding light tore across the sky. A cyclone swept the landscape and left it completely flattened out. And several twirls of smoke unfolded like gigantic flowers. The way the morning broke was quite unusual. | |

Rad, I was looking at your terrain piece again and notice small pieces of cut up dowel or skewer stick that appears as if your going to have some empty can littler on the ground... is that the intent? |

Well spotted Tinker, you have an eye for detail! Yes, just by the ladder are a number of skewer secrions, partially hollowed out with a needle file and roughened up to look dented. There is going to be a long-abandoned mattress under the raised floor and some cutlery etc around the cans. In my minds eye it was a scavenger's camp, but whoever lived there is long since gone... My world is set about 100-150 years after WW3, and included an initially high number of survivors (before plagues, cannibalism, hysteria and constant warfare whittled them down) so I like to scatter vestiges of habitation around. Humanity is fading out, each generation smaller than the last scratching out a living in the ruins/wastes that is all that is left of the "golden age". I am working on a load of bottles at the moment, so a number will go there as well. |

Nothing special, I usually carve, sand and file wooden skewer sections to get the different shapes (coke bottle, wine bottle, milk bottle) and then paint, ink wash and gloss to achieve the transparant look. In the past i have used the bead and pin method with some success, but the result is too bright for my blasted wasteland, and I havnt found generic enough beads to make the shapes I want. As I make each bottle individually, whilst they are similar no two are exactly the same. To get around this I figure that after about 100 years of chaos some industries such as pottery, glass blowing, carpentry and blacksmithery or weapons making would start to reappear, so these are individually blown bottles, perhaps from recycled fragments. All glass from before the war would have been broken by this point, I reckon. i am actually currently making a weaponsmith and glassblower's shops, just got the walls in, so they will be full of this stuff. |

Just got back from holiday, and found a couple of great additions to my scavenger cars in a junk shop. I was a bit short on load-carrying vehicles for all the firewood, tents, etc that they would have to carry around, so these two were perfect and at 50p each... The first one is a retro london ambulance: I have already started on it, the windows have come out and been replaced with mesh, and will be further armored with bars. ![]() Then another ambulance, this time in a more conventional van shape so i will just make this an ex-builders van, or perhaps a butchers one "J. Jones, family Butcher" perhaps .![]() The two I have previously posted, with their undercoats applied and ready to be painted. ![]() And the whole convoy together, just need to finish the three white ones! ![]() Maybe a week to sculpt all the gubbins, depending on how much time the wife allows me in the evenings My main problem is going to be colour, as i just cant decide which way to go, just rust them out or weather and chip a definable factory colour... |

Go for different colours, a PA convoy will not be colour coded. Add plenty of rust too. |

I agree, I just want a realistic balance of colour as so many mass produced cars are in the same shades: red, blue, black and white. I think I will go with two red, and one each of the other colours to give a random feel. |
