Thats odd Danny - I always took Hard sci-fi to be the opposite end of the spectrum; the gritty down to earth feel of the Aliens Movies, and perhaps Starship trooper. Believable technology, based off modern science, and all that.

While I loathe science fiction that has too much science, (reads like an engineering thesis) I always took 'hard sci-fi' to mean 'realistic' - i.e. grounded in real world technology, tactics, and history, as opposed to space fantasy like Star Wars, or 40K. I really like TTG's like Stargrunt2. I also have a genuine appreciation for STALKER. It's grounded in the familiar but blurs the boundary into horror and the fantastic very well, IMO.

Ah, my good Dawgie!
If you've ever enjoyed the venerable Diablo series, then Borderlands should be very familiar.. but sci-fi versus dark fantasy, and first person 3d versus 2d isometric.

My biased opinion? Start with Lilith. She's a -beast- in close combat. Hell, she makes Brick look like a pansy even in 'zerker mode.

Amusing, considering that she looks to be as frail as Mordecai. (The bone-thin sniper fellow.)
Mechanics-wise however, you can compare the characters to standard tabletop/mmo classes.

Brick is the tank. He 'can' deal damage, but his skills mainly focus on him standing there looking tough.
Roland is the Cleric. He can fight decently, but his skillset is primarily defensive/buffing.
Mordecai is the 'Nuker'. He deals massive damage to singular foes, but he's a bit on the weak side in cqc, and his skills aren't aimed towards crowd control.
Lilith, ah.. Lilith.. she's the dps/crowd control. Her skills revolve around rapid damage, slight self-buffing, and mediocre area-effect damage.
Basically, she's the Jack of all trades and master of turning your face into ground-round.

Lvl 47, with a 50 round machine pistol, 237 dmg a round, empties the clip in about 2 1/2 seconds. 11,850 dmg in 'normal' circumstances, nearly 24k on criticals.
Even Skagzilla cringes.
Let's not forget the fancy SMG, scoped electric-charge revolver, and beastly little street-sweeper I looted.

... Err, right. Back on topic.

I think a Survival Horror finally needs to be made. No, Resident Evil and Silent Hill don't count. Resident Evil is pretty campy. Silent Hill gets the 'horror' down, but not the level of 'survival' I'm thinking of... hmm... I'll continue this in my own post, so as not to take up room.

The zone is filled with terrible mutants. Sine the World Killer emission some of them have gotten bigger and meaner. The Bloodsucker is always a terrible critter to run into, especially as it can become invisible when it is hunting. But imagine running into the Uber Bloodsucker in the dark out in the Zone...

Mini is made up from the GW Chaos spawn plastics. Handy if you want to make mutant beasties. You may even be able to make a Deathclaws from Fallout if you can sculpt a tale and head on it.

Mini is a EM4/Grenadier Hazmat trooper. I think he may have too much white on his camo.

Hi all. This is my first post other than my introduction. Been aimlessly trawling the internet whilst coming up with ideas and came accross this little gold mine; once again I have to say -really LOVE this forum!!

Anyway, shameless gushing aside I want to share some minis i've found. Chances are you've probably already seen them and i'm posting them in the wrong section, but i think they'll look great in a post apoc/s.t.a.l.k.e.r. setting.

Another Monolith Stalker

Monolith are a large faction and a pain in the rad counter. They are well equipped so I felt my forces needed a LMG.

I think this is mini is Assault Group one (Xannnnddderrrrr?!!!) with a head swap and a hood.

With the large mask on the smaller body, I thought it was a female at first. Could easily pass for a "less voluptuous" female.

Looks good either way.

Well, bobble head is a matter of opinion. It was pointed out to me, by Earl of the North I think, that a properly scaled head in a gasmask is going to look large on a properly scaled body.

So, from a realistic perspective, it's not oversized. After that lesson, I've learned to appreciate the look of both the larger and smaller head.

Wow, wargamers CAN be swayed by a convincing arguement!

Nice work Danny - glad someone has been able to put him to good use! The figure was a TAG Russian 'Terrorist' in skimask.
