This was generating enough traffic to merit it's own missive. ![]() http://ravenfeast.deviantart.com/art/Ruins-Sneak-Peek-127546085 That's a little less than 2 weeks worth of work. Never underestimate the power of mass production. The 5mm foamboard walls mounted on 15cm x 15cm (not quite 6" by not quite 6") hardboard squares. Made a single, generic stencil for the windows/doors so everything could be traced instead of measured out individually. All the buildings have a standardized 3" height per level/floor. Individually was sacrificed for speed of production. Mr. Ford knew what he was doing. The hardboard bases are purchased from an art supply store http://www.dickblick.com/products/hardboard-panels/ . The foamboard walls are all glued together with white glue and secured to the hardboard bases with Liquid Nails. When you cut a single whole building diagonally in half - TA DA! - you get 2 ruins! And you can never have too many 6" squeeze bar clamps. Next step: Adding details like rubble piles and weapons' fire damage. A.K.A. glue chunks on and chop other chunks off.

Freebooter - There should be a test run this week after detailing and coating one piece with wood glue mixed with a little paint texture additive powder. If that works: spray black primer, then drybrush gray, followed by a lighter drybrush white. Tinker - be single and without a life and it's amazing how much silly shite you can get done.

Good variety there. I very tempted to try out your idea of stencils and then chop each piece at the 45 degrees. Keep us posted. |

Sweet looking stuff! And that's without any paint.. You know, we -should- really consider a forum greet&meet kinda' thing in a year or so.. That might be enough time for us to get out of our individual financial woes/get out of school/whatever.. Wouldn't be a very big thing obviously: How many people are one here regularly? 15 'maybe'? Wouldn't be a problem to find a decent place to hole up for the nights, or venues large enough to slap down a table full of overpriced toy soldiers so we can fight each other and make obnoxiously loud 'BANG!' 'BOOM!' 'FWOOSH!' noises, along with screams of rage, anguish, and other such things at unpleasant defeats. ... I'll try and smuggle a few boxloads of terrain with me. |

Exactly my point! What's one more invasion, even if it is only the dozen or so of us? Ross & Dimitri - Airfare is an issue, as is shipping our toys to the eventual destination; my stuff would not pass the scrutiny of airport security. Oh, nothing, Mister Homeland Security, just models and figurines. Yes they all have guns. What's that? I'd be delighted to wait over there... Chrome_Cat - Stencils are the way to go. I made all the windows and doors oversized for ease of moving the figures around. These are gaming items, not architectural models. There are 3 types of buildings in the works: 1 - lots of windows (firing positions). 2 - some window and some solid walls to break LoS. 3 - a few windows and lots of solid walls to break LoS. Set up the stencil to have the maximum number of windows and doors you want. If you want less for a particular building, then don't draw them.

I'm a bit of a klutz and have large hands, so design accordingly. |
