Great paint jobs. I like the Raven. Is that part of the sculpt?

Aye, the raven was already prat of the sculpt. I think the figure was originally supposed to be Odin, but Foundry never released him as such. (He was a ltd Ed give away figure; a bit like their Thor figure) Given how many great Norse god ranges there are out there, I thought this background gave me a chance to get hold of some of them too; and still use this figure as sort-of who it was supposed to be

Gudren - one of Jarl Ragnar's men. Built like an ox he was, but about as smart as an ox too. Still - you don't need brains to be able to hit things well with a broadsword.

Skraelings - short, sallow skinned, dark haired, slant eyed goblin-people that live in the far frozen north lands. Always seem to dress in skins and stink of seal fat. They occasionally trade carved whale bones or ice-bear skins; but they are more likely to attack a vessel and sacrifice the crew to their dark animal headed spirit gods.
Skrealing is what the norse called the eskimo/innuit peoples of the artic cirle and who were the orignal 'first nations' of iceland and greenland. I've tried to describe them as a dane of the time may have done. No slurr or insult intended to any of these peoples! Please google or wikipedia 'skraeling' for further detials. May well get some more of these chaps either from Copplestone or Bears Den minis

Cheers mate - Gudren is a Heresy Barbarian (Conan anyone? lol) and was a nice figure to paint up. As he is sort-of-multipart-if-you-imagine-hard-enough (Seperate hands and head) it would probably be fairly easy to convert him. Mind you, he's a stonking great figure - as big as Ragnar! One of my 'hollywood' additions... but as this is a game of mythic Sagas it would be a shame to keep it purely historical! lol

The Skrealings were originally being done for my Thing! games, and never got finished, so I just re-interpreted them. lol. But you're right, they could be used for pretty much anything in the last 1000+ years. (Got a few with rifles which will still go to the Mulp set). I quite like the idea of adding to them some more, so will have a think/look into innuit myths and see if anything comes to me. IIRC there are some cthulhu worshipping innuits in one of the HP Lovecraft stories, so I may well steal some of those ideas to make them truly terrifying to my Norsemen!

I was thinking about giving one of them a Cthulhu style mask; and maybe convert a couple so that they have some sort of ritualistic weapons (strap on claws maybe)

Just found this link: http://www.inuitmyths.com/myth.htm so I will see what I can do about incorperating some of these along with the skraelings. Not sure how suitable some of them will be for the sort of game I'm likely to play, but even so!

Just found someone on the LAF who is doing a similar thing:
http://josephdragovich.blogspot.com/2010/04/chilling.html -> for the unpainted figures
http://josephdragovich.blogspot.com/2010/04/ice-ice-baby.html -> Finished figures.

Certianly some interesting ideas there....

Here's the products of the weekend - they don't look very good in pictures... not really sure why, as they look the same as usual 'in the flesh'

Old Snorri - Once a warrior, long ago, Snorri is old now. He lives in a small hut on the edge of the village, and scratches a living from a vegtable patch. The village childern come and listen to his tales of distant lands, mighty warriors and great battles most afternoons. But, though old, the warrior spirit still ives on. It was old Snorri that lead the hunt for the den of the wolves last year, when men half his age were afraid to venture out, and his axe is always kept sharp...

Regarding the Cthulhu-worshipping Inuits (I love that idea!), the plastic GW Corsairs have a banner top that would be perfect for a project like that...

On the back banner of one of my Chaos Marines.

And the face mask of one of the Dark Elf special characters.

I love this project :)
