It's loosely based on The Saga of the Volsungs, and not too shabby a production, either. Get the German edition Die Nibelungen - Der Fluch des Drachen, as it's uncut, and already in English. :(|;):

Just to say that I haven't forgotten this project - but its a little way down the list. I may well have a change from moderns for a while over christmas and get some more of these bits painted. I also found this range which looks perfest for what I had in mind: http://www.heroesofthedarkage.com/

At a pound each for 25mm isn't too bad at all...

Sent them an email about p&p costs to the U.S. If I get an answer it'll be posted here.

And they're willing to ship to the U.S., with postage based on weight. I'll be setting up an order later.

These are also quite nice... but I'd say that the pricing is a bit steep; even if they are 'heroic' figures...

A bit more insperation; this time from the excellent John Howe

http://www.john-howe.com/portfolio/gallery/categories.php?cat_id=93
-> Illustrations from his Beowulf book (I actually have the book, and it is highly recommended for the artwork alone!)

-> Beowulf's last battle, from a different book

And because I still haven't quite worked out what my next gaming 'period' is going to be (probably Africa... but it *might* be Sagas yet. Those new Gripping Beast releases do look sooooooooooo tempting. But then again, If I do Africans, I'll actually clear a drawer in my wardrobe! lol!) I thought I'd start painting these chaps up inbetween the Mercs & Militia:

A ltd Ed Foundry Viking (Who bears a pretty good resembalance to Odin, but I think I'll wait and get some of the Bronze Age mini's 40mm Norse Gods before I do any more of them) and a Lt Ed Saxon Raider (Warlord show 30th anniversay mini? Scuplted by Paul Hicks).
The Saxon may well become a named character in my long planned (and probably never going to be played!) 'Cerdic's Saga' campaign

This may be of interest: http://www.wargamesfactory.com/AnnouncementRetrieve.aspx?ID=32100

Saw it on The Miniatures Page http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=196314

Liked the modeling suggestions for the Revell Viking Ship.

Thanks for that Al - I've actually got my mitts on two Monogram 1/60th Drakar that I was planning to use for my vikings; so the article abouthte Revell vikingboat will be particularly useful!

A mate of mine is in one of these Viking Re-enactment groups. Personally I think its just an excuse to run about with a battle axe....of course some of dont need a reason.

I look at it as less a reason for you to run around with an Axe... more as a reason for the police not to lock up for doing so! lol!

Jarl Ragnar (said to be descended from mighty Oden himself, although others have also called him half-troll! Either way he is a giant of a man - A great warrior, and a just lord) and A Saxon Warrior, Cerdic, who's tale the 3 norns have only just begun to spin...
