Whilst trawling through the marked-down movies two weeks ago, I spotted something that looked quite interesting: The Zombie Diaries.

The cover features a broken cityscape, with a lone living man in a flak vest surrounded by dozens of zombies crawling out of the ruins.
The back shows more ruined scenery, more zombies, along with a few choice pictures of the movie, and a number of 'review' bits.

"The Best Zombie Film EVER." - The Dark Side
"The Zombie Diaries has been heralded as the most Realistic Zombie film ever made" (twitchfilm.net)
"Dark, uncompromising, and frighteningly real" (eatmybrains.com)
And the big bold one at the bottom of the cases' front;
"A bloody powerhouse of a movie." - Jay Slater, Film Threat.

... What the F**K were these guys smoking?!

The movie was, to be quite blunt, horrible.
The zombie makeup was decent, but the 'documentary' styled shooting made it look worse than any indy movie I've seen, along with a number of -very- low-budget B-movies.

Really, the story wasn't engaging, the actors would stutter over lines, or use unconvincing accents (The 'American' Guy..), and there were only a handful of moments where they actually seemed 'In Character'.

Another quote:
"Set in England during a world-wide viral infection, this documentary-style frightfest records the rise of the undead from the videocams of several survivor groups. As each struggles against the flesh-eating hordes, an even more horrifying fate lurks among them" (eatmybrains.com)

Okay, that 'kind' of explains the crappy shooting, but I still consider it a cop-out.
Now, hordes of zombies? You see, 'maybe' 2 dozen at once. That's the biggest group.

And now, for a major 'spoiler' (Not that this movie can really be spoiled..), the 'Horrifying' fate!!!...

Is the fact that the French guy is psychotic, likes killing people, and had a girl tied up in a barn to rape her.
Considering that I've grown up on horror and slasher flicks, this is just pathetic.

Dyma's Overview:
If you can find it for less than $3.50, and you want to kill an hour or so, go ahead and pick it up. Don't expect to be blown away; you won't be.
Out of 10 points, I give this a 4/10.

Below-average, misrepresented film. Shoddy acting, not enough action to make up for bad character development. You get the idea.

Thanks for the review....I will avoid it.

Another one to miss is the zombie Chronicles. Its guys in joke shop zombie masks pretending to be zeds, incredibly poor acting, even worse effects and a dialouge that makes you want to die....so poor in fact I got pissed off after ten minutes and switched it off.

Was that George Romero's flick?

If so, then I am -very- disappointed with him. I've always adored his films, even the new Dawn of The Dead, and Land of The Dead.

Sadly i've seen this too.
It's as bad as you say maybe worse!
It's got no connection whatever with Romero. (thankfully)
The directors are
Michael Bartlett
Kevin Gates
who were also the writers. This was their 1st project.

How hard can it be to make a top quality zombie flick? Honestly give me some money, some actors and zombie makeup I'll make you a classic! Almost all the recent zombie flicks I've seen have been pretty crap.

Yeah - the Romero oe is diary of the dead. I guess these are the 'budget' attempts to cut in on the action. I'll probably avoid, unless I can get one off evilbay for <£0.99, then it may do to kill an hour or two...

The zombie diaries is complete pants. Did you notice they were shooting zombies with an air rifle at one point. So basically it looks like they couldn't afford decent props.
Im sure that French guy was a scouser?? I would check but I have given away my copy.

The Zombie Diaries - And the only person who knew how to effectively use a rifle was a stranded American. :(|shock:

When something is popular in the theaters, then every failed film school project that is remotely close the theme comes off the shelves, gets dusted off and then burned to DVD. Sad, really.

Other "zombie" movies to avoid:

Rise of the Dead - possession by the spirit of an angry, dead baby movie, not a zombie movie no matter what the cover art implies. Bad and DUMB.

Zombiez - crazed, asthmatic, evil inner-city druids maybe, but no zombies here. Not even worth a laugh.

Maplewoods - "Special Forces" team is sent in to investigate a CIA underground lab that has suddenly cut off communications while experimenting on WW2 NAZI zombies. Only if, but, alas: no. Couldn't afford anyone who could act - nor real guns, nor good airsoft guns, so they used cheap pellet guns.

The Revolting Dead - it's... uh... don't. Just don't.

Electric Zombies - even worse.

You have been warned.

A couple more to avoid:

Zombie Nation - literally the worst film ever made. Tedious, illogical and unpleasant with about 5 minutes of zombies doing nothing interesting.

Zombie Campout - Desperately unfunny and awful.

Has anyone seen 'special dead'? It sounded rubbish but I found it quite entertaining.
