I heard that Last Vegas is getting low on water. I guess the folks of Dirthaven must have heard it too, as they decided to run a convoy out there, loaded up with barrels of water. The Yellow Brick Road is back under the PLA's control, despite the best efforts of the 308th, so the Dirthaven crowd were in for a helluva rough ride. Sheriff Waite and his Tracker (chief) Jim Blackfeather tagged along, and they even hired in some muscle from some wasteland nomads. Dunno if'n it'll be enough though... [Ambush game, with the same PLA forces as lst time vs a force made up from the gang list. The gangers had a 50pt advantage, which translates into about 3 guys with clubs. 11 guys with shotguns, 12 with rifles and 5 or 6 with melee weapons. In addition to the sheriff & chief, there was one other character, also a gang leader with a shotgun] ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This section of the Yellow Brick Road has seen heavy fighting in the past, at one point being the PLA's most forawd position. As such,it has been fairly heavily fortifed, which in turn makes it a prime place for bandit attack ![]() The convoy had just about got half way through when something spooked them into stopping... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The Dirthaven guys pile out of their respective vehicles Edited by v_lazy_dragon, Jun 7 2009, 03:38 PM.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The PLA bandits appear, opening fire with the machine guns stationed either side of the road. ![]() The guys from the hgalf track were pretty muched wiped out, with only the Sheriff & Chief Black Feather left, and they were both bleeding badly... A couple of the guys from the T-Bird were also hit, but you can't see them in this shot |

![]() The Chief went for cover in the back of thre hlaf track... put the commie brute ran over and flattened the back half of the apc with a single swing. The chief was knocked about pretty badly and wouldn't be reappearing this game... ![]() Meanwhile some retrun fire from the convoy thinned a few of the chinese from the bunker ![]() ![]() ![]() The rest of the convoy members leg it to cover, taking a fair bit of fire whilst doing so ![]() ![]() The sheriff flanks the bunker and kills the machine gunner, but shortly there after the rest of the squad fill the air in the dugout with lead, and he goes down... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Some PLA troops appear from behind a hillock and start blazing away at some of the convoy guards which had started to work their way up towards the bunker system... Luckily a wasteland nomad hired by the convoy is on the cafe roof and can at least return some fire... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() On the other side, the survivors try to push forawrd, but a couple of the groups are pinned down. Ma Fogherty makes it to the edge of the large fortified ruin ![]() One of the stop groups from the ambush starts pushing down towards the fortified ruin, with the brute in support.. ![]() Inside, the troops seem confidant, taking up firing positions. Things look bleak for the Dirthaven convoy, but wait - what is that plume of dut in the Distance? Could it be reinforcements? But for which side? Tune in next time for the next thrilling installment of Astounding Wasteland Tales! [By this point the game was looking pretty unwinnable for me, with the vast majority of my forces down on the first turn. I had given the chinese automatic initiative and not chosen a card to activate first for myself, which coupled with a few bad draws of the cards and only a 50pt bonus left just under half my men dead in the first turn. By the end of turn 3, I was down to only 40%, with only 1 wounded hero, and 2 groups pinned. As Dad was getting tired we decided to call it quits there. If I have time (and Dad the energy), I'll roll some reinforcements for the traders and see where that goes...] |

Good read! Love the pictures, even the non-rotated one's. Sounds like you need to load your dad up on energy drinks for the next episode... of which I'm waiting. BTW, I like the Chief, do you have any close up pictures? |

So how do the rules play so far Xander?
Yeah thats pretty cool. Some interesting old techy junk bits of terrain there too. Some nice vehicles too. What cars have you got there? Come on Xander, give us a Vehicles of AC57 thread!

I'll do vehicles another time... butthey are all ~1/43, and abpout 1/2 come from various other games (you've seen the green pickup before with modern africa) and the fiat truck & black/yellow coupe come from back when I was doing my pulp gaming... More will arrive with the texas rangers (although some wil need to be dirtied up a bit) Looking at the dodge pickups, they might need a bit more weathering too... The fortifiaction is from Snap dragon scenics - they also did the bits inbeteen the buildings... The rules paly very nicely, with the randomised activation (but still being able to pick the first unit) working very well. Move distances feel ok. Most weapons are pretty much garunteed to put a figure down when you hit (figures have an armour of 5, and most weapons have 2D6 + 3-6 damage depending on the weapon.) All in all, its a nice set, which plays out well. I'm looking forward to seeing what vehicle rules they come up with! |
