I am in the middle of making a crawler from a 1/35 T55. It was a clear out sale item from years back. It would seem one the tracks is missing.

So has anyone got any ideas on how to make tank tracks?

Make? Ugh. Long & tedious.

How about: buy?

Mind you, I've never done business with either of these folks, but hunt around the web for other options. Avoid "working" or "metal" tracks as the cost will go up exponentially. Rubber one's are even cheaper than plastic, but harder to find as they are generally frowned upon by armor model enthusiasts.

Yes, you'll probably be paying more for the tracks than the model.

Is there no miser solution like maybe cutting some strips of thin cardboard and then cutting out thin rectangles of card to add to them as the tracks?

Yeah make...I was thinking of corrigated card. It might look crap though.

Interesting idea about the model shops, I think maybe the Tiger or Leopard tracks might be wide enough. I will try a few other model shops and evilbay too.

Of course there are two other options....

1. Make it with wheels so its a AWD affair. It will need 10 wheels to 12 wheels and lots of brass rod to make axles. Its not the first time I have done this.

2. Make the crawler a grav vehicle, although I think it is a contradiction in terms. I will need big bases for it.

Hmmm....I just discovered the missing tracks lurking in another model kits box. DOH!!! :frustry: :frustry: :frustry:

I think I am losing it...there has been several things go into hiding this week only to turn up in odd places. :D

Nope - that would be either storing your minis after a few beers or putting them "somewhere safe for later". ;)

Heh... In answer to your first question I would use a plasticard strip and then glue smaller plasticard strips to it in order to make the treads. This could be as intricate as you like :P
Other than that you're better off just to buy a new set. Quite a few model companies have released track links in varying scales.

But as to losing things? Well... That's just bad luck :P

Every time I organize my work area I lose things, especially tools! I can find things in a mess, but the missus doesn't understand how my filing system works and likes the work area cleaned up. So, for family peace I lose stuff all the time.

Or you could take the time to properly catalogue your storage system? A guy I game with had a similar problem with his mrs. being on his case to keep his work area clean. So he and his father in law built this massive shelf/draw unit and set everything up with grid references and keeps a spreadsheet with where everything is.
As soon as it was completed though he realised he had no where near enough stuff to fill it so he went out and bought a hell of a lot more so it didn't seem so empty :P

The idea of a spreadsheet is good, I'm just not that anal about it  Like my Brother-in-law said after he recently opened my shed after did some work at my place last year, "It's just like Christmas to find all those tools I thought I'd lost!"

Heh... That's the best thing about having so much stuff. When you stumble upon things you'd forgotten you had, it's like christmas all over again :)

I know how you feel I've got a box of 28mm modern and sci-fi stuff that I put away "somewhere safe" and I've just spent hours looking for it. Really frustrating but it will be a treat when I do find it.

Wargamers will survive the radiation because almost ever single one of them that I know has stacks of lead distributed around their house. That's my theory anyway.

Or, like us old timers in the U.S. who've been collecting over 30 years, you get the designation of an Environmental Protection Agency Superfund Site. :(|;):
