yeah sorry guys, i'm ok with other people taking on the role of the Barracks training rep or something. the other guy who spoke to the group was just a side character to keep things moving. the story is supposed to develop out of all our imaginations, AS IT HAS!!! :D we already have a few kingdoms!
so to verify - Beredon is my character and i can't type for him much atm.
sorry.

the old head ticker is a bit sore.

Ironclaw finishes his preening, and just sits outside the barracks. Still no sign of anyone else turning up. 'I suppose this WAS the right barracks?' he mutters to himself 'I mean... there aren't any other barracks in the city... are there?'

Getting increasingly bored, he gets up and shakes his featehrs out a bit, before deciding to take a walk around the barracks complex... maybe the others had gone straight to the training grounds and bypassed the front door?

OOC: Glad to see we've brought this back ^_^

Ah, so the Guard was awake now. From the shadows of the buildings opposite the barracks, Alkimos stirred. The Gryphon was already here, and he could see a few others coming form the alleyways. Double checking he had his sabre by his side, he made his way through the rusty gates to the training field, looking forward to a mornings combat.

"And about time!" Ironclaw mutters moodily as he strides into the compound. The guard shrinks away, hearing a half muttered coment involving the pecking out of eyes being an appropraite response to certain situations....

striding into the barracks axe on shoulder beredon took a deep breath of fresh air.
"And what a good day to kick some dummy backside" he exclaimed in a heartily tone.
"morning gryphon" he called as the gryphon flew into the compound "and what tidings do you bring from the sky"..."what is our weather looking like today"

a small human walks up to the barracks. he wares a coat with only the top buttons buttoned showing a breast plate underneath. he carries a trident over his back and a curved sword on his belt. "hello chaps, sorry for not being at the meeting yesterday a bit of bother with a bunch of hoodlums on the road, the names harris black feather"

turning and embracing harris's hand in a strong handshake beredon nodded to him
"pleasure im sure harris"
"the name is beredon, beredon fleetwood before you ask i a-
interrupted beredon turned to see a very stumpy man with green rimmed glasses no more than 3 foot above the floor smiling broadly
"a half dwarf" he exclaimed in a high pitched tone.
"correct" beredon added.
"pleased to be of your acquaintance" the small man blurted.
"you fended for my clan against the ragnock in the mountains last harvest"
Trying to rack his memory beredon quickly recalled the rest of the small humanoids armed with pitch forks, rakes, torches and hunting bows fending for themselves along with himself.....the rogue mercenary.
The ragnock a large wolf like beast with humanoid facial features sporting an abnormally large pair of talons on each paw.
ironclaw shuddered and muttered
"Ragnock"
the race of gryphons history with the ragnock was common knowledge.
"follow me" the small man chirped snapping beredon from his daydream.

Ironclaw followed the small man, completely dwarfing the little fellow. Due to their size and generally 'good' natures, gryphons often clashed with other races and groups. The Ragnock were just such a species - they were great raiders of nests and the townships of other species. The fact of their raiding was bad enough, but the creatures didn't feed on meat in the normal way. They fed of raw pain and terror. As such they didn't eat any of the creatures they captured, but instead tortured them for as long as possible, using the most diabolical methods.

Such creatures weren't natural - they had been created by the Zenlesians, during their breif incusrison into the mortal realm. I just wish it was the worst that those sketi eaters had created Ironclaw thought glumly. He was no coward, far from it, but some of the things he had seen had rocked him to the very core.

on entering the courtyard beredon cast his eyes upon what seemed to be a large cage cast in wrought iron containing no less than 15 vercs. the vercs where tall slender tree like creatures, there rough fur resembling bark or coarse foliage much like that of the dreadlocks in the hair of the long forgotten race of dark elves.
they were burden with 6 large thin talons to each hand and walked on 4 legs, there faces adorned with a cruel beak that could slice through the weakest of Armour.
"trial one" the small man bellowed from a boxed wall in the center of the courtyard.
"BEGIN" he screamed, all of a sudden the gate closed, archers on the walls knocked there bows and the cage was flung open by a small measly man with a chain around his neck, no doubt one of the barrack masters servants.
within second the vercs had shred him to pieces pulling his eyes from his sockets and slicing him in two with a movement so fluid that even an elven eye trained to dodge an arrow could not commend.
"SHIT" bellowed beredon realizing he had left his large axe at the tower, pulling his smaller axes from their holsters he flung one into the nearest vercs head while rolling over ironclaws back and jumping behind one of the "not conveniently" placed boulders.
the whole team of warriors burst into action. ironclaw flew into the sky in one jutting swoosh but was shot at by the archers on the walls.

OOC: sorry to put ironclaw into danger, it was merely to establish the fact that the warriors cannot escape the compound. (well not at least legally)

The Vercs were quick. Alkimos flung off his cloak, and drawing his sabre, leapt into the fray. Spinning his blade elegantly, he quickly dispatched the nearest Verc, slicing a limb clear from it's bark like body. The Verc howled in rage and tried to gouge and Alkimos with its lethal beak, eyes of fury.

Seeing this move, Alkimos lunged forward with his blade, driving hard into the maw of the Beast. Blood spurted from the beak, as Alkimos pushed further with all his strength, narrowly avoiding the Vercs reaming arms. Eventually, relenting, the Verc finally drew its last breath and collapsed to the floor. Pulling his Kantesh from its body, Alkimos smirked with triumph.

He did not, however, see the next Verc pounce from behind him.

screaming to ironclaw as he soared back to the ground "IRONCLAW HELP ALKIMOS"
seeing the great bird fly down to help the dwarf he decided it was safe to deal with the matter to hand, the verc flying towards himself, quickly drawing his wrist knife he dived at the creature slicing its abdomen in two as he skidded along the floor beneath it, its innards showering him in gray liquid. from behind him he heard the voice of the small gnome like man
"Good move alkimos, Very smooth Beredon!"

OOC: so thats three verc down, 12 left. who else is in the arena?

Ironclaw banks, and then rolls, avoiding arrows with consumate ease. These guys were good, but no where near good enough! He soars up over the archers, and then swoops down, fractions of an inch above their helmets making them scatter as he headed for a verc.

Within moments his claws were sinking into the verc's back, tearing vast gashes in its shoulders as his claws punched right through. The speed of his dive was enough that he had already started to rise again, taking the verc with him. He beat his wings and was soon out of the court yard. He contemplated droping the writhing verc onto the archers on the wall - "That should make them thing twice about shooting at ME" he muttered smugly ".... but I'll be good..." Dodging another arrow, he rolled and went zooming down towards the courtyard, and dropped the squirming verc onto the verc attacking Alkimos. The beast barreled into the one on the ground, and both verc's rolled into the courtyard wall with such force that Ironclaw could hear the bones breaking even as he soared back into the air.

Still the archers shot at him 'Oh for crying out loud!' he roars, before swooping down again....

"now this is more like it lads, which reminds me, the name is Grum Waltzaron" as Grum dashes at a charging verc he brings his trident out and sicks the fork end out at the verc while the shaft end into the ground.
when the verc hit Grum lifted the verc over his head and crashed down behind him where Grum quickly dispatched him with a couple of stabs to the neck. a second one came out of nowhere and landed on top of Grum and started trying to bite him. Grum Quickly squirmed out from the vercs grasp and stabbed him in the abdomen dispatching another. "oy lads thats 2 to me and Feather brain up their"

"Whatch who you're calling feather-brain, short ass!" Ironclaw calls down as his swoop takes him back down into the courtyard, and he slams all 4 claws into a verc tumbling it over with a shreded back, but not bother to catch hold. He ebas his wings to gain height, ready for another dive. The idiots on the walls fainlly seem to have stopped tryng to pepper him with arrows "Probably realised that what goes up must come down..."

Rallying from his near miss, Alkimos was ready. Another Verc was begining to bear down on him, and from the depths of his robe he pulled two throwing discs, lightweight throwing weapons covered in sharp blades. He sent these hurtling towards his attacker, dispatching it with a swift thud, the discs imbedding deeply into its flesh. Redrawing his Kantesh, he bag to stride into the main foray, where many a Verc still remained.
