After seeing so many musical people on the hobbies thread, what music do we like? Not generally associated with gaming, just general day to day.

Me, I'm a Ska/Rock Steady/Reggae fan. It's just got a beat to it! :Arr: I also Like Jazz/Latin/Funk/Big Band stuff, as it's mostly what I play. Although I'll listen to most things! Except maybe Rap/Hip Hop... It just doesnt do anything for me.

What about yourselves?

I like all sorts of music but if left to my own devices I tend to listen to mostly Rock and Metal. That includes Death and Black Metal.

Hm... Most things - mainly Rock, Metal, Jazz & Ambient; although exactly which flavour is usually dependant on mood & what gaming genres I've been into (As I put together 'soundtracks' to games, It means that I have things like the Starship troopers OST, lots of stuff from the Vietnam era, etc, etc which tends to get stuck on...)

Mainly Metal, namely of the Death and Black variety, though Grindcore finds it's way in, on occasion.
Most 'Hard Rock' in America has turned into prissy Pop bs, so, I'm not too interested.
Started listening to a lot of Japanese music; Pop, Rock, and Metal. Pretty cool stuff.
(And I'd sleep with nearly all of the bands. Preferably at the same time. Seriously. Look some of these bands up, and you'll understand why.)
Old rap, namely Sir Mixalot and Will Smith.
Hate country with a passion, yet I'll listen to foreign Folk songs, along with Folk Rock/Metal.
Bit of industrial here and there, amongst other things.

I'd like to think I'm fairly diverse, musically.
I can go from Mogwai's 'Travel Is Dangerous', to The Berzerker's 'Eye For An Eye'.

I'm a bit of a weird one when it comes to music.
I'm trying to make a career out of it so I can't really be too picky about what I play and don't play. An example... Reggae. I really hate listening to it. It bores the shit out of me... But it's pretty popular where I live, so I get paid to play it. As I said, I can't be too picky. Although I refuse to play thrash metal... That's a crowd I have managed to avoid.

Through my degree (2/3rds through, woo!) I'm really exploring jazz and funk. I have to say this is probably my fave listening music and my favourite to play. It's hard to find the border between the 2 styles and I've had heaps of fun blending the two. Favourite artists in this vein would have to be Marcus Miller, Freddie Hubbard, Miles Davis, Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock.
2 of my biggest gigs around town are in the local big band and with the Army concert band. between the 2 I mostly play big band/swing charts with some cool funky stuff that was written through the 70's. Eg. Birdland and Caravan.
Other than that I'm pretty much an old school tragic. I love Led Zeppelin, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd and The Who. I'm not that big a fan of metal but if it's got some decent vocals and some good writing I'm more than happy to listen. My metal faves are bands like, Iron Maiden, Edguy, Pain of Salvation and Coheed & Cambria.
This is where most people laugh at me... I'm seen as the hard-ass, tough, jaw breaking* bass player. I absolutely love The Whitlams, Simon & Garfunkel, Elton John and Billy Joel. My friends just don't get how I can absolutely rock it up all night in a classic rock cover band, and then go home and throw on Eternal Nightcap.
I'm a weirdo :) And proud of it.

As a small child I was exposed to a lot of Beatles, they were probably my first "favorite band." I grew up during the 1980's, so I have a deep love of new wave music, although The Police was my favorite 80's band. Then in the late 80's I discovered Thrash Metal and Death Metal... first the obvious Metallica and Anthrax, then more extreme stuff like Nuclear Assault and Sepultura. That eventually led me to Grindcore bands, mainly Napalm Death and Brutal Truth. I also developed a taste for Faith No More.

Then I started chasing after this chick who listened to stuff like Jane's Addiction and Red Hot Chili Peppers, and although she ended up dating one of my best friends, the good news is that I discovered Mr. Bungle during that period. They rule. Then I went in a weird direction, listening to obscure John Zorn stuff (Spy vs. Spy, Naked City, etc.) and ambient noise like Scorn and Earth. That got old pretty quick.

In the late nineties/early double-zeroes I got into techno stuff like Underworld and Chemical Brothers. I also discovered Secret Chiefs 3, which started as a Mr. Bungle "side project" but ended up as its own seperate thing, and I love them to death.

Also, after seeing "The Watchmen" I fell in love with the old crooners like Nat King Cole. Nothing like sipping a stiff drink, in your bathrobe, listening to "Unforgettable" while watching old war footage... ;)

Deep Purple, nice... I played keyboard in a rock/metal band and I used a Fender guitar amp, the result was somewhere between Devo and Deep Purple LOL.

I loved listening to Industrial while playing UT in the olden days...

Recently I read there are actually only two types of music- good and bad.

For some reason I think the funniest part of that movie is when the nun floats backwards LOL.

A friend of mine started a band called "Three Orange Whips" based on the line John Candy (RIP) has near the end of the movie, when he's ordering drinks for himself and his two associates at the big show. "Orange Whip? Orange Whip? Three Orange Whips."
