Wastelanders!

You might find this of interest if'n ya haven't already seen it, Chain Reaction 3.0 for FREE!!

http://www.angelfire.com/az3/twohourwargames/CR3.0.htm

I know it's not a rule set everyone likes, but it has a great price and it's good for solo play.

I like the rules, though it's a big change from UGO-IGO. The neat part is that figures not currently active (it's not their turn) still get to react to suddenly seeing enemy units in front of them. So no more "oh, those guys aren't active so I'll just cross the street in plain view and they can't do anything." This really changes the players' tactics. :(|grin:

Yahoo group: http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/twohourwargames/ The group is active with lots of players.

And there is the unofficial Fallout rules - FALLOUTCR2.PDF You have to join the group the get the file, which is in the FILE section in the Post Apocalypse Stuff in one place folder.

I like the 2hr wargames stuff - It reads and floes well. Its one of those systems where a couple of trial games are needed to pick the rules up, but it seems to play really sweetly after that

The interrupted turn was a stumbling point for us for the first couple of games because of our UGO-IGO experiences. You really have to pay attention to Line of Sight. The movement of Player A's figures could trigger a reaction from Player B's figures if A's troops moved into LoS of B's troops. Once the reactions have concluded, then Player A's turn continues. Your figures have a chance to do things completely beyond your control. It's also well suited for solo gaming, so you can test scenarios before inflicting them on your players. :(|grin:

Have to agree with everyone here, requires a bit of road testing before being able to pass any judgment. But if you do get how it works it's a great little system for a quick game. Lots of action, lots of tweaking possible. And yes, finally, a game which actually works with solo play. This also lets you work in tandem (or in competition!) with another player with the third force being played just by reactions.

Hehe great price... too right. Well worth a try, although some of the RPG oriented players may find it a little bit lacking in character development. This can also be modified to suit your playing, some of the other Reaction system games (like NUTS!) uses a leveling system.

Hats off to the THW team.

Oh, oh. I've had a couple of games using theses rules now...very addictive.

The solo play scenario at the back of the rules really sucked me in. I've usually taken a side long glance at solo play because i've never really been challenged by it. Not the case anymore.

It really didn't hit me the first time i gave it a go. But after getting an idea of these larger rule sets people have mentioned with levelling, co-op play and alternate reaction charts, my mind is full of possibilites.

Yep i'm trying my hand at blogging to.

FNG (the Nam version) has some great ideas in it, as does ATZ (no idea what ATZ 2 is like, probably better than 1 knowing Ed Texeria)

MY name is DAWGIE, and i am a THWG junkie!

i have been "addicted" since i play tested the GUNS 7 GIRS/CHAIN REACTION rules waaaaaay back when it is funny ED wanted play testors for an urban gang war set of rules, and when the six playtestors got them in hand, man we went everywhere but to street gang warfare. ED was as amazed by and pleased by this as we all were. the rest is history . . .

i highly recommend getting CR3 as our first set of THWG rules; if you like the way they work you will like the other sets that you spend money for!

be warned! you will have to rethink exactly how a table top battle plays with the THWG system! you may not like being in full control of everything, as the toys "develope minds of their own" during a game! no more IGO-UGO loopholes! can be used with any scale miniatures made by anyone without any problems.

and the best solo play system i have ever come across anywhere!

Give it a go OZ. Ever since i had the epiphany when playing CR3, i've bought 5150 and the Infestation source book. Also got ATZ last night. After trolling on the yahoo group i've even injected alternate rules from the other 2HWG games i don't own just by reading other peoples ideas.

Heads up to those whom downloaded CR-3.0, but aren't members of the THW group: The CR-3.0 has been updated and now has Vehicle rules. http://www.angelfire.com/az3/twohourwargames/CR3.0.htm

There are two supplements available too, Gangsters and Cereal Killers. Cereal Killers is said to have wonderful building clearing rules.
