Ok while I am cutting my teeth on the "wanted undead or alive" thread I wanted to throw out another one. Since there are no rules that I could find I will offer up a few thoughts to get this one going.... At any point the players/characters may add to the setting in any aspect that is not defined...not just the points concerning the player's character but to include the world setting. OK here we go.... With this quick polling I will be able to establish a starting point. Make your choices and feel free to add input if desired. 1. (pick 1st 2nd, and 3rd....as a choice start point not 3 characters) human (old school...from now or near now) human (survivor or 1st gen after) human (new school) sub-human (think psuedo cro-mag) post human (F2-3 with stable differences) mutant human (minor but interesting) mutant human (minor to major) uplifted animal (normal animal with near-human intelligence) mutated animal (animal through animan) exotic (mutated parasites, crystal creatures, mutated plants, etc.) Edited by atomic ray, Feb 28 2009, 01:25 AM.

For me: I am a nut for PA themed gaming but if I have to pick 1st human (old school...Morrow Project all the way) 2nd uplifted animal.....young adult male chimp, modified voice box, brain chip (INT and programmed education) 3rd mutated animal...mixed breed dog-boy...partial biped (50%), partial hands (thumbs on each paw), partial speech (either technology or mutated), PC level INT (either tech or mutie), standard dog level senses (smell, hearing, and a minor danger sense) |

OK first hurdle aside... The time is near now...a few changes...North Korea has declared war on South Korea, Russia is having major issues with several of the former USSR countries, China makes the big jump into the big 10 in more the economic, USA shut the doors to immigrants, Mexico is in civil unrest, etc.. The cold war vision is gone but the future holds a dark promise...so those that can make the steps to secure a foothold do so...a long story short...hundreds of time lapse enclosures are made around the world...seed banks...flora/fauna libraries...as well as human cold storage... As a player you have to choose one of two options: Be one of the ones from today or be one of the ones in the future What will it be? |

To start the process I will create 4 starters to set the mood: (first 3 are from our time) Capt Jim Harper, USAF, 40yr old, 20yr veteran with prior enlisted as well as officer experience, project operations Col Robert McCormac MD, USAF, 48yr old, 18yr veteran with Doctorates in General Medicine and Cryogenics Specialist "Bongo" male chimp, USAF,19yr old, uplifted with AI chip (standard human INT), improved voice box (last is post modern) Cave Keeper Pakoo, 187yr old, shaman/herbalist/story keeper/artist, limited regeneration (cellular...extended youth/life, resistance to illness, etc. but will not regrow a limb), modified digestive system (100% break down of any organic material without ill affect...poisons, rotten, insoluable fiber, etc.), (d)complete albino (regeneration corrects the sunburn issues, but not the light sensitivity or white skin) Pakoo has been watching over the ice people since he found the great cave 100yrs ago. While on a spirit quest Pakoo found the cave, the ice people, and all the machines of the old ones. He has since made the cave a focal place for the tribal leaders to meet, a neutral ground for debates and conflict resolution, and a house of relics. Collections of various other travelers and explorers are held within the great cave. Pakoo has keep his last 3 wives and raised over a dozen children within the cave. GM notes: if you choose the old guard stock you will have knowledge and familiarity with modern technology and you will be frozen for a long, long, long....long time. If you choose post modern than the choices are more exotic...a general census of 100 adventure types (75% pure strain human, 20% mutated human(minor), 05% mutated human(major)) Technology level is post modern tribal with art, music, and science being practiced as much as hunting, farming, and politics Edited by atomic ray, Mar 1 2009, 06:25 AM.

At this point of the process it is unknown by both potential character bases...but your old school character could be fixated on the thought of WWIII if you like... "I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." Albert Einstein Old school types should fall within the cryo-subjects (best of the best from US military, big brains, think tankers, and gov programs), uplift program (test animals to establish the long term effects of cryo-sleep...dogs, cats, pigs, chimps, rats), technicians (staged cryo...wake up for a month per year to conduct maintenance and emergency wake up to deal with any serious issues/failures), doctors (also staged cryo...1 month a year and emergency response). Post modern types can fall within several different categories but for general processes: classic tribal with stone age tech...full gambit from hunter/gatherers to head hunters...belief in magic and spirits classic tribal with horses...or related animals...art, music, some science/medicine...tend to be migratory classic tribal with construction...builders, farmers, craftsmen...forts, markets, small towns Now all of these types and blends of the same exist within stone throw of each other...stone age tribesmen bringing in wild game for trade, horse/camel riders moving herds from place to place for sale/trade, big town craftsmen leading head hunters to build wells, etc.. So what will it be old or new? |

I mean to say....at this point of the online RPG process I am offering limited information...the importance of a WWIII or not is not of any real value to the process of picking the starting point for the characters... At this point you as a player do not know if there was or is going to be a WWIII. I have offered old or new. The old are within a closed experiment and have limited exposure to the outside world...the focus is on cryo and the science of "cold storage". If there is a WWIII it will be known later...if at all. But for now old or new....modern or post modern.... |

Ok...pure strain with out mutations, mutated human, or other? If mutations then pick them or I can generate them for you...minor is 1-3 and major is 4-6...more you have and more chance you have issues/defects...if you would like for me to select them...give me percentiles 01-00 for each and there is no better or worse for percentiles...01 is no better or worse than 00, just different. Mutations : example 2 mutations 34% modified skin 27% heightened sense player likes these and can add more mutations or improve these Joe with above mutations wants 3 more (every one over 3 is there is a 50% of defect) 34% modified skin 27% heightened sense 13% improved digestive system (defect roll 27% clear) 39% dual hearts (defect roll 71% defect) (D)27% slow healing factor Joe with above mutations wants to improve his existing stats/mutations 34% modified skin 27% heightened sense 13% improved digestive system (defect roll 27% clear) extra D6 of STR...5 (defect roll 71% defect) (D)27% slow healing factor Joe with one of the above mutations want to improve his existing stats/mutations 34% modified skin (leathery) extra D6 STR...4 extra D6 BODY...3 (defect roll 27% clear) modified skin x2 (hardened leathery) (defect roll 71% defect) (D)27% slow healing factor etc.. A quick note, stats are note all that important, especially when considering it is online, just note if a stat is significantly higher or lower...I noted the numbers only to establish common ground. By the way...the most common villain in the new world are the packs...beastial men, mutated animals, fell men, and others running in feral packs of reavers...killing and eating at random... |

I'll go for a modern era uplifted cat.... Specialist 'Azerus' uplifted Cat (Maine coon, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maine_Coon), 8 yrs old, uplifted Intellignace (above average human), Improved voice box (can now speak flueltly), Reinforced skeleton & replaced claws (now a Titanium alloy). How's that? |

The alloy skeleton is a bit much as is, based upon the technology available as well as the mission of the cryo-lab...but that said, the uplift program was established to provide answers for the issues involved with cryo-science...so how about the cat in question had been injected with a bonding agent to try and strengthen the bones since there was damage from a fast thaw experiment? So laced rather than replaced? The standard AI chip for intelligence allows for above average thought processes but it was found that the further away from the human standard brain the subjects brain was than there were unforeseen differences. These differences can manifest as more artistic than logical, lacking emotion, personality issues (not too severe or it would quickly lead to the long goodbye), etc.. So above average intelligence, sure. The voice box for those animals that have none allow for a clean and clear voice, but it is completely digital. The equipment is accessible with standard communication devices (radios, cel phones, etc.). A complex series of jaw/mouth contacts allow the animal in question to develop a syntax unique to them; watching an uplifted cat for example talk...there would be the classic peanut butter on the roof of the mouth thing with extra movements...think subtle mouth typing. The cat sounds like fun. I am always surprised by the choices people make when given a set of options. This is an interesting one. I have had two coons and they were both odd cats...well come to think of it, all my cats were odd ![]() I like this one on several levels... Edited by atomic ray, Mar 2 2009, 05:28 PM.

Awesome! The bone strengthening was something I first came up with, then when I thought about the claws it made me think of the exo-skeleton as a possibility. As for the personality issues; thats fine with me - I imagine any cat that gets human level intelligance would be disfunctional by human levels... probably a lot of arrogance and a short attention span to begin with. I imagine it would also be fairly skittish and irrational. As for the syntax... have no fear, it won't dissolve it to 'I can has cheez burger' l0l cat levels; although I may play around with things a bit. |

The syntax comment was not to make you speak in weird cat 101..lol. I was just mentioning it to clear a thought. I will insert a cool little for fun deal...pick a number or roll for a 01-00...within the 01-00 is a free power up, say empathic touch (a side effect of the AI implant and feline nature) or heightened sight (due to interface with AI implant) or photographic memory (an upgrade to the AI implant for recording data for testing) and a few less than wonderful things like complete loss of hair (big hairless maine coon...LOL) or limited day vision (due cold related injury).....so what will it be? Takes a risk? (and just for shits and grins...the choices are completely random 01 is not better or worse than 00) |
