IT might have been a RHEINMETAL flexible aircraft gun converted to a ground LMG. i do remember it had saddledrum magazines, and the bipod was not near the muzzle at all.

i have to admit i was and still am taken with the idea of a double barrel flare pistol that could also launcher grenades, for those occasions when you wanted to do more than "light them up" or "burn them out".

Ross - superb job, dont be too hard on yourself....thats the mrs job! :D

Dawgie - the smiesser is the MP40. The P38 is a pretty good combat pistol and is still made as the P1 (like the Mg43 is made as the MG1 - they must have gotten them right if they are still making them). No MP44's? The father of the modern assault rifle and it is probably the inspiration for the famous AK design.

No idea about that LMG though. There is a possibility it was captured from some place and re-used. Or maybe the looted from a aircraft wreck as that was common on both sides. British Halftracks had no weapons, so the brit crews used to rip them from downed fighters and bombers. I wonder how many airfield crews came out in the morning to find some nocturnal scavenger removed the guns from a aircraft. :D

Xander, the Sten was mass produced (and designed so a small workshop could churn out hundreds) and many fell apart due to crap spot welds. Maybe someone told a fib. :D

I've taken a small break from the Prospectors to finally get some colour on this building:

Not 100% sure on when it'll be finished, but I'd hoped before Xmas.

THE GERMANS still use the P-38/P-1? it is a very good weapon but not big enough bore for my tastes.

and they still use the MG43/MG-1? i knew the SPANISH and ITALIANS still used the MG-43/MG-1- an excellent weapon with a ferocious ROF.

ROSS, excellent piece of ruined terrain.

I think Sergeant Steel has a great ring. If you want something goofy how about "Sarginator"?

DAWGIE - I don't think the Germans still use the P-38 (IIRC, and I might not, they use either Glocks or H&Ks?). There was also a P-38K (short barrel) pistol produced at one time. My 'Top Secret' character packed one of them.

The Bundeswher does still use a MG-42 derrivative, IIRC its called the MG-3. I think the Portugese still use the MG-3 too...

Yup - it would, but it would have to be kept in one of the secured police armouries around the country as it is of a 'regular' calibre...

Nah, interior detailing isn't done yet. I finish work at lunch time today, then I have to decide when and where I'm doing Xmas shopping for the missus, so I'll either hit it some more or spend the afternoon shopping...

Oh man! Very, very good Ross. This has been a long project but god damn it has paid off. I'm feeling a kind of second hand pride just knowing someone who created something this good.

Did a little bit more last night, a very slow process I can tell ya's! Now it's just a case of doing the bare wood, interior items and furniture (cups, cupboards, boxes etc), go back over and touch up the walls, then I think I might chuck it onto the table for a game.....

Looks good Ross.

The P38 is still made as the P1 but is not used as a combat pistol as far as I know. It is a good rugged pistol and is favoured as a personal side arm or target pistol by private citizens. Shame its only a 8 round mag.

The Luger is a good looking pistol, but reading accounts of German line officers and troops (esp those on the Eastern Front) it has a reputation for unreliability. They preferred the P38 or in some cases captured Russian pistols.

GERMANS also liked the POLISH RADOM autopistol on the EASTERN FRONT (this is the POLE's copy of the M1911A1 COLT as i recall), when they could lay hands on one.

as i recall the TOKAROV is basically a USSR rip off of JOHN BROWNING's .32-cal autopistol.
