The Master of Obvious

Boyd, Ender, and Buneary, the last in their pokeball, walked onto Route 801 for the very first time. This route was rather plain as it rested near the shore in between two towns. There were a few people traversing the route, most avoiding the short grassy areas as they didn’t have pokemon of their own or didn’t have a strong enough pokemon to battle. Boyd, on the other hand, traversed mainly THROUGH the grass. His feet, bare of their coverings, craved the moisture that dew frosted on the grass. As he walked through the plain route, his bare feet kicked something hard on the ground. “Ouch!” Boyd yelled and he looked down. There was a large rock a few feet away that must have rolled when he kicked it. He would have picked it up, but it appeared to have woken up a few pokemon that wished to fight now. These pokemon didn’t look like animals to him. They looked more like plants, or rather, buds of plants. Not really sure what these pokemon could do he summoned Buneary to help Ender out. You could use your pokedex to tell you about those Budew. “Oh shut up,” Boyd said. Meanwhile Ender dashed forward at one of these plant pokemon and slashed his claws into its side. The pokemon was startled by the action and moved out of the way; right in between of Buneary’s pounding attack towards the other Budew. The pokemon was in so much pain that it decided it would try to intimidate Ender and Buneary by growing in size. It gathered strength but that was about all. The other Budew was slightly more intelligent and shot some roots through the ground and up into Buneary, stealing power from the pokemon, and immediately retreating out of the way. Ender ended the battle for the weaken Budew by scratching its enlarged body. Feeling powered up by the experience of fighting, Buneary pounded on the remaining foe from behind. Enraged by the sneak attack, the Budew puffed up into a heightened state of aggression. Ender slowly crept up on the Budew while Buneary had its attention. He scratched the pokemon down low as Buneary pushed the plant over with its pounded paws. The impact from the duel attack caused Budew to be unable to battle anymore. Ender smiled as he gained strength from the defeat. Suddenly he realized that he could use his innate fire abilities to help him out in battle. Boyd was distracted by the battle was going on. He had picked up the large rock on the ground and decided to slightly follow the voice’s advice by using one of his electronic devices to see if there was something special about this rock. Apparently it was called an Icy Rock and he decided to keep it. Looking up at his pokemon he noticed that the fighting was over and recalled Buneary. Unbeknownst to him, someone had planted, not stolen, 1000y in his bag. Spoiler: click to toggle |

There seemed to be a glowing rock in the corner. Perhaps if it was checked out, Boyd might find out that it's actually an inactivity candy, granting 1000 exp to a pokemon. |

Boyd, about to continue onward with his pokemon, noticed something sparkling out of the corner of his eye. He went over to the spot and noticed a glowing piece of rock. When his pokedex could not identify the item, he decided to keep it as he realized that this ‘item’ could probably rake in some dough if he sold it to the right people. Boyd pocketed the glowing rock when he noticed another item right underneath it. This object he was able to identify right away as it was an ordinary pokeball. As he was about to pick it up, two stray pokemon approached from behind looking for a fight. Ender and Buneary glanced at each other and decided to defend their trainer even if he wasn’t aware that there was a fight going on behind him. Ender chose to try out his new attack and fired flames out of his mouth at the opponents. One of the Budew was wise enough to jump out of the way but the other one became engulfed in flames. The fire proceeded to be too hot for the Budew to handle and it fainted upon impact. While the escaping Budew was recovering from the nearly fatal attack, Buneary jabbed the plant’s face with its paw. The Budew retreated into itself but immediately came back out standing taller. Ender took his time to lock, load, and fire an aimed stream of fire at the Budew from behind to hit it square in the back. The Budew fainted on the spot. Buneary jumped up and down with the victory feeling energized. Boyd turned around after picking up the item just in time to see the battle end. “Hmm, good work,” he muttered and then walked ahead of them. The two pokemon sweatdropped anime style and then proceeded to follow their trainer. Spoiler: click to toggle The trio continued to walk around in the grassy area of the route when suddenly Boyd felt the presence of a human approaching. His initial reaction was to grab for his side where the man’s weapon usually rested but it wasn’t there. You left it at your house before I borrowed you for this journey “More like stole me…” Boyd muttered which caused the footsteps to stop behind him. “Wha-” the voice of the approaching human sounded but must have decided otherwise on what she was about to say. Yes, Boyd was able to tell that the voice belonged to a young girl without even turning around and with such a short introduction. The voice was rather soft, that of an alto, but there was a hint of confidence behind it. To confirm what he was predicting this person would be like, Boyd turned around. He was correct as standing before him in a green outfit suitable for outdoor training was a young girl, probably a few years younger than he, wearing a camper’s hat, her hair rather short and brown barely visible from underneath. “Hey you there, would you care for a battle?” Boyd examined the girl further with his eyes. She stood as short as her hair proportionately and carried only one pokeball on her belt. Her eyes matched the color of her hair and her face failed at trying to hide any expression. By the way she stood and the expression that was being suppressed, Boyd could tell this girl was slightly intimidated by him. As he opened his mouth to try and take advantage of the situation, something caught his eyes once again. Approaching the two of them was the same four Budew from before, he assumed wanting revenge for their defeats. Instead he said, “Maybe later, for now we have company.” Two of the four Budew came towards Boyd so he allowed both of his pokemon battle them while he watched how the girl fared. Things did not look good immediately. The single pokemon she had was at a disadvantage as it appeared to be of water elemental. Boyd pulled out his pokedex and it stated that the pokemon was a Mudkip. The two plants proceeded to decimate the water pokemon and just as the girl was about to throw a potion at her pokemon, they had defeated it. The girl’s brown eyes filled up with tears and she ran away crying, taking her pokemon but leaving the potion by accident. Boyd was about to call after her, but she was already gone. He picked up the potion and put it in a separate pouch of his bag just incase he ran into her again. Meanwhile Ender and Buneary, well mainly Ender, were decimating their opponents. It was down to a two on one battle as Ender had taken care of one of the Budew immediately with a few flames. The other Budew had taken a pounding from Buneary as it tried to intimidate the bunny by growing in size. “Alright Ender, finish it off with Ember,” Boyd stated as he began to walk the battle. Ender stirred slightly as he wasn’t expecting an order but did not hesitate in following the command. He shot fire at the Budew and caused it to faint. Spoiler: click to toggle The sun approached the top of the trees as the group continued to battle within the grassy plains. Boyd debated about setting up camp but decided against it as he hoped to be able to reach town before the sun was gone for the night. The pokemon of the night had other plans as another pair of Budew got in the path of Boyd and his pokemon. Boyd let out a sigh and sent out his pokemon to do battle with them. Although neither one of his pokemon were injured, Ender and Buneary were slightly tired from all of the battling of the day. One of the Budew even managed to strike Buneary, but that was after Ender had taken down the other Budew and Buneary had struck the pokemon first. Buneary began to limp from injury so Ender got inbetween the two melee fighters. He scratched the Budew but it managed to hang on! Buneary reached under Ender’s arm and bopped the Budew straight in the mouth causing it to roll backwards and faint against the tree. A potion fell out of the tree so Ender went and retrieved it for his master while Boyd was tending to Buneary. The rabbit seemed to be slightly injured but it was nothing serious so the trio moved forward with an extra item in their possession. Spoiler: click to toggle The sun had set as the group reached a sign along the path. After reading it carefully, Boyd swore. “This is only the halfway point of the route!?” After he calmed down a few yards down the road, he added as if he never even stopped talking, “Alright we’ll set up camp here. We might as well get rest now so that you two could heal up and since we’re out here in the open, we might run into someone to entertain us.” So the trio set out to set up the tent, but it wasn’t long before they did have visitors. These visitors were more wild Budew who had just come back from a walk to find their houses crushed underneath Boyd’s tent. Enraged, they attacked. Ender blew one of the Budew out of the way with an Ember strike while Buneary pounded on the other one. The pokemon prepared to do a two part move by growing first and striking second when Ender scratched it before the second part could be started. The pokemon fainted in surprise. Ender smirked and felt more powerful. Meanwhile Boyd found a pokeball resting right next to a tree nearby. He picked it up and put it in his bag. Then he recalled both of his pokemon and went inside his tent for the night. Spoiler: click to toggle |

Boyd woke up early the next morning, not because he couldn’t sleep or some weird event- it was because that was how he was trained. The sun wasn’t even raised yet when he went outside his tent to pack up. After the tent was down he turned around to see the exact same Budew from before mad about their homes. “Alright you two time to wake up and get to work,” Boyd said and he summoned his two pokemon. However, Buneary didn’t come out of its pokeball. If on cue, Boyd heard rustling inside his bag. He opened it up and found Buneary munching on the glowing rock he found before. “You idiot! That was going to be worth a lot of money!” Buneary jumped out of the bag and Boyd suddenly realized that the pokemon appeared to be much stronger than the night before. Did that strange rock give Buneary extra strength? Buneary rushed one of the Budew and pounded it into oblivion before Ender could even react. Buneary must have gotten stronger in order to do that. Ender shook his head and proceeded to finish off the other Budew with a flame strike. After the battle Buneary appeared to be even stronger. Boyd discovered exactly why these pokemon had been attacking as he discovered the homes that had been destroyed. “Oh so that’s why. Well, that’s your fault for putting your homes so close to the humans. I guess I can repair them for you, that is, if I still have my basic magic skills,” Boyd stated even though he knew the pokemon couldn’t hear while they were fainted. He quietly chanted a spell and the houses soon reformed to how they were before he came by. As Boyd was leaving the area he discovered a machine on the ground so he picked it up. Boyd pocketed the item even though he had no idea what it was and then continued on the route towards the next town. Spoiler: click to toggle |
