The Battle Factory is a building in the Battle Frontier where trainers don't fight with their own Pokemon, but instead battle with the Pokemon that are given to them by the facility. Therefore, it will take a lot of knowledge regarding Pokemon to get very far in this place!

There are two modes that you can choose from in the Battle Factory:
Single Mode and Double Mode.

In Single Mode, before you begin any battles, you will be presented with a choice of 6 Pokemon. (Your choices improve in quality as your win streak increases.) You may view the moves and items of those Pokemon while selecting them. You must then pick 3 of those Pokemon, and they will become your team as you commence to start (or continue) your winning streak. You will then engage in single-battle against 7 consecutive trainers with random teams. The trainers start off easy, but get harder as you go along, and they will fight under the same conditions as you. Your team will be fully healed in between battles, to keep yourself at full strength for the next battle.

Additionally, before each battle (including the first one), the staff at the Battle Factory will alert you to what kind of team the opponent has. They may tell you what Pokemon the opponent has, what types the opponent is using, etc. Also, before each battle (excluding the first one), you will be given a chance to perform a Swap. After hearing the team hint, you may choose to exchange one Pokemon you're currently holding for one Pokemon that your previous opponent used. (You cannot view its moves or item - just its species, and you'll have to go by memory.) The Swap is optional, so you don't have to Swap if you don't want to, but it is a way to gain an advantage.

Double Mode works the same as Single Mode, except at the start you will be given 8 Pokemon to choose from, of which you must choose 4 to form a team; and you will be fighting 4-Pokemon Double Battles, instead of 3-Pokemon Single Battles. Your team will be fully healed in between each match, and you also get a chance to Swap in between matches.

Once you have cleared 7 battles in a row, you will be taken back to the Battle Factory lobby, and awarded with Battle Points (starting with 5, and increasing in proportion to your winning streak). Should you lose, you will have to start your streak over from the beginning. Your regular team of Pokemon will be given back to you (whether you win or lose), and the rental Pokemon will be taken back.

Once you have cleared a certain number of battles and have shown your prowess as a trainer, you will be challenged to battle by the Frontier Brain here, Factory Head Lionel. (You can only fight him in Single Mode.) Information about Lionel is detailed below.

Lionel is a happy-go-lucky trainer who sees life as a continual game. He likes to analyze each situation, and then act accordingly with what he believes is the best solution. He's fought so many battles with rental Pokemon that he doesn't have a true team all his own. When he fights, everyone and everything around him seems to get fired up and 'into' the battle.

The first time you fight Lionel will be for the Silver Recharge Symbol. You will battle him after you defeat 27 trainers (your 4th run through, and he'll be the last trainer). This is the team he uses against you for the first battle.

(Random each time. He will use three random rental Pokemon to fight you with, and the team differs with each battle he engages in. The Pokemon he uses for this battle will standardly be in the medium-hard difficulty.)

The second time you fight Lionel will be for the Gold Recharge Symbol. You will battle him after you defeat 55 trainers (your 8th time through, and he'll be the last trainer). This is the team he uses against you for the second battle.

(Random each time. He will use three random rental Pokemon to fight you with, and the team differs with each battle he engages in. The Pokemon he uses for this battle will standardly be in the hard-very hard difficulty.)

Once you defeat him both of these times, you'll shine forth as the master of rental Pokemon battles!
