~ Use your grammar. Here at Pokemon Infinity, we wish to hold a high standard of writing. Of course, we aren't all Shakespeares and McCullerses and Salingers. In fact, as far as I know, none of us are. However, one of the first steps towards being a good writer is knowing how to use language. Please show us that you take this RP and your own writing seriously by avoiding grammatical errors and correcting such errors when you find them in your work. Obviously, everyone makes mistakes, so no one's going to jump down your throat if you weren't totally sure how to spell "Vermillion." Basically, if you make a conscious effort to keep your writing in check, it will really show and everyone will appreciate it! ~ It is important to note that, being a Pokemon RP, we will be using a lot of terms that are not in the English language, such as pokemon and place names. To find the appropriate spelling of these terms, you may refer to any of the plethora of Pokemon reference sites on the web. That said, we are NOT being anal about the accent in the word "Pokemon." If you want to use the accent, please go ahead. But if you're one of most of us who use an English keyboard and only want to use the characters on it, feel free to just spell it without the accent. Also note that "Pokemon" is capitalized when referring to the franchise (Marla is playing Pokemon) and lowercase when referring to the creatures themselves (Marla is playing with her pokemon). ~ Like most RPs, Pokemon Infinity does NOT allow the use of "god modding." God modding is generally defined as controlling a character who is not your own. However, in some situations, the line can be a little fuzzy. Some examples of things you DO NOT want to do include calling shots (attacking someone and assessing his/her damage before he/she gets a chance to react), performing a long sequence of actions in one post (this includes making a really long speech- implying that no one decided to cut in or interrupt is an indirect form of godmodding), or failing to acknowledge factors that would limit your character or his/her pokemon (even a Blissey isn't going to take five hyper beams from a Dragonite). Basically, use your judgement and make sure the people you're RPing with are cool with everything you're doing. The only exception to this rule is when you have gotten permission from the other handlers involved. In these cases, please put a disclaimer in the post saying so. It'll make less work for us and keep you out of trouble. ~ Always always ALWAYS know your surroundings! Please do not join a thread without reading its entirety first. When you do join a thread, respect everything that has already been stated there. This prevents inconsistencies. If someone mentioned earlier that the walls are covered in plain blue paint, don't spend an hour describing yellow wallpaper with pictures of Farfetch'd on the trim. If someone came in earlier and destroyed all the chairs in the room, don't come in and immediately settle into the biggest easy chair. It doesn't make sense! Same goes for the people already in the thread. We understand that things do not always go the way you want them to. Perhaps you didn't want the entire Accounting Department at Silph to burst in and have Happy Hour while you're trying to have a romantic lunch a table away, but you still have to acknowledge their presence. ~ Keeping all that in mind, please respect the rules for posting order. If there are two people in a thread, it goes A, B, A, B. If at this point, C comes in and posts, the order should become A, B, C, A, B, C. Other people are waiting their turn, so please keep that in mind and try to finish posts at a decent pace. If you know that you will be unable to post for a while, please remove yourself from any threads you're in. If a thread has gone more than ten days without any activity and you're just dying to make a post, you may break post order- but only after sending a confirmation message to the handler holding things up. If the handler does not respond, please consult with a staff member. ~ We highly encourage reading as much as you can in the RP, even threads you're not in. It really helps to know what's going on throughout Kanto. On the other hand, make sure you keep your knowledge and your character's knowledge separate. Let's say a riot breaks out in Fuschia City and your character is relaxing in a cafe in Celadon. You may know about the riot, but your character won't know until the news cameras get there or a friend calls him from the scene. If your character jumps on his bike and pedals to Fuschia to be a hero before finding out, that is considered "meta gaming" and is highly discouraged. ~ Make sure to communicate with your fellow handlers! We cannot stress this enough. Some situations will require the handlers involved to collaborate (especially battles), and all other situations will definitely benefit from communication, as it keeps people from making decisions that might not please everyone involved. |
