Storyline:

If anyone remembers, the original pokemon catchphrase was "Gotta catch 'em all!" well, I'd like to point out that this becomes less and less possible with every game. I mean on the original games you couldn't catch Mew, or Celebi. But on the last gen there were a ton of pokemon like Arceus and Darkrai that you either had to cheat to get or attend an event. I suppose they're still obtainable if you're willing, but you should be able to catch every pokemon.

The Pokemon:

Instead of dissing their designs I'm going to start by saying I'm sick of the recycling they have going on. Instead of creating Bidoof, couldn't they have just started the game against some Rattata? And Starly may look like more of a retarded Taillow, but it's still just the in-game Pidgey replacement. And in third gen, we have Wurmple. The fusion of Caterpie and Weedle. The creators wanted to throw in Butterfree and Beedrill, but instead gave us Wurmple and let us chose between the butterly and the other random insect.

Now onto the designs...

For three generations we had that great almost natural look for Rhyhorn and Rhydon. Then some Japanese guy who was high of caffeine, draws a Rhydon and covers it in drills. I'd say the best one must be Mismagius (typo?) but even that isn't great. What really annoys me with those though, is that they ruin the pre-evolutions. I can hardly use Magmar and Electabuzz anymore.

Now for the rip-off pokemon. Plusle/Minum = Pichu. Gulpin = Grimer. Beautifly = Butterfree. Turtwig = Bulbasaur. (There is a huge list, but it's past 2am here.)

I will say this though, Lucario and Darkrai were both pretty epic. Shame they put Lucario in brawl and tried passing it off as Mewtwo.

Evil Groups:

On the newer gen games, the evil teams play a much bigger role. This wouldn't be too much of a problem except that they're so bloody lame.
Team Magma: Want to blow up volcanoes and expand the land.
Team Aqua: Want to expand the Oceans.
Team Galactic: Want to control space and time so that they can take over the world.
Now, compare these teams to good ol' Team Rocket who were about one thing only: Being badass pokemon-thieving gangsters.

And to finish...

On the very first games, we had Mew the rarest of all pokemon and Metwo the most powerful of all pokemon. Apart from those, there were the legendary birds.
D/P introduced us to the god of all pokemon, the pokemon of time and the pokemon of space. Aswell as Giratina, the master of the other dimension.
R/S gave us the pokemon who ruled the sea and the pokemon who ruled the land. (Based on the biblical Behemoth and Leviathan.)

How did we go from two extremely powerful creatures, to bloody gods?
^ This ends the topic. Nothing else needs to be said.

And @Overthrown: I really enjoyed Colloseum as well.

Yes... I suppose its why we liked the older gens. They didn't defy the laws of the world and create amazing poke'mon that can control the planet. Mewtwo was just a badass and he left it that way. Hell, he still is. They kept poke'mon as they should be: animals. Not Gods, not deities... animals. They kept the same thing up for the most part in G/S/C, pushing it with Lugia and Ho-oh. But they had to invent Celebi: the master of time. This is where it got messed up. If they never would have made that grass puff, they probably would have never invented Groudon, Kyogre, and Rayquaza (whom is based off of Quatzicoatl, the Aztec sky God). I don't like knowing there's an unseen force watching my damn video game character.

I once saw a spoof of poke'mon where Dawn and Lucas are going through their poke'dex. Lucas looks at Dawn and goes "What now?" Dawn points a finger to the air and goes "We go... to God!" And Lucas pushes a button and says "Wait, nope. Got that one." And Dawn falls over, defeated.

It was some video based on Smash Bros. Brawl I think... but it gets the point across quite nicely. There was another one where the producers were all gathered to celebrate the 5th generation of poke'mon. They stand still for a few seconds, and a guy goes "F---uck!"

They won't top Gods... they'll just make more. XP

As for XD and Colloseum, I liked both of them too. They were pretty high on the badass meter. =D

I know... some all-seeing thing with a huge beard and Mario mustache... Its 'dex data would be something like "It is always watching everything. Including you, in your sleep." I would not touch that thing... ever.

I dunno, it could also look like Santa Clause or the head director of Gamefreak or something.

Overthrown, were the videos by Nintend0h or something like that? They do a lot of funny brawl and pokemon spoofs.

Best was zero-suit Samus telling Pit his balls haven't dropped. And Ash beating Pikachu to death for stealing his hat.

Anyway, down with godly pokemon! Or atleast give them their own type of something. It's a bit of a piss-take, building up all this hype about a diety of time, and then it being defeated by an animal.

For me, Hoenn wasn't that bad yet. I think that the design of the region stood out more than the legendaries.

Off-topic: This was mentioned on GameFAQs- RBY is spring, GSC is autumn, RSE is summer, and DPPt is winter. How very true.

For starters, rose tinted glasses. Everything was better 10 years ago goddamn it, and this is fact.

Second, after 10 years, the near perfect formula has gotten old. This is part of the reason I anticipate HG/SS so much, because it looks like they are really taking advantage of the fact that the game will sell by the boat load to test out new stuff, which is great.

third, they started trying to top themselves 3rd gen. Look at the 2nd gen, the rat clone is unique, the bird clone is unique, and there is no bug clone. 100 new pokemon, and most were original designs not based off of previous pokemon. There were a few issues I had with it (NO FOSSILS :C), but come 3rd gen, they seemed to think that what they had wasn't good enough and they needed to replace them, and so we got Zizagoon/linoone, which are strangely like hybrid ratatta and Sentret families. Hoothoot/Noctowl are completely unlike Pidgey, but tailow/starly are clearly pidgey inspired.

They tried to top themselves with the story, but they didn't seem to grasp that to make a better story, its better to make a new story rather than change the characters and some of the events. In G/S/C, it was clearly a continuation of R/S/Y's story, and was fairly unique despite clear similarities. In 3rd/4th gen, it was R/S/Y's story, but with the Hoen suicide squads for retards and Sinnoh's stupid spaceman squad.

Of course, there are some justifications. 1st/2nd gen took place on different parts of the same landmass, while the others were on isolated islands. But, by saying that a different rat would have evolved comes with the unspoken requirement that a different floating rock with arms should have evolved, and a different eyeless bat should have evolved as well.

Finally, everything Shaun said.

First gen was simply the best . becouse it did not have the gayest looking pokemon around . the pokemon when i was young . were good to look at were inventive . and looked baddass. unlike the cute crap and the partly evel pokemon you get nowadays. the onse after the origonal 101 pokemon are simply crap

For me, the 2nd gen was the best. It revolutionized the pokemon games on the hand-held for me. I mean, cellphones, radios, suicune, time traveling, SUICUNE.

Alll around, the 2nd gen was the best.

P.S. There was Ryikou(spelling?) and Entei too.

Raikou. I enjoyed the dogs and birds too. They were awesome. Like myth poke'mon. That didn't hurt so bad as Gods. Besides, we have myths in real life, right? Bigfoot, Loch Ness, ect. Made sense to do it with poke'mon too.

The 1st and the 2nd generation really made an impact on me as a kid. its almost as if I'm attached to them cause I just really want to use them and only them. Its not like I hate the 3rd and 4th gens, I just prefer the first 2. >.>

You said Loch Ness is a myth. It's a lake in Scotland. :P

The makers of the games are all about the money now.

While I like preious gens more than the 4th gen, I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be. Some people probably say its rubbish just because other people do. I still like it but the story is getting old.

I agree, but I'm going to be really pedantic and say that rayquaza was based off the legendary bird Ziz.

Groundon was based off a legendary beast calleda Behemoth.

And Kyogre was based off a legendary sea monster called Leviathan.

I get that but no one outside of Scotland calls it a loch. Well, the English definetely don't, I'm not too sure about Americans.

(I admit I do believe in stuff like Nessie. Afterall, we know more about the moon than the ocean.)

On-topic: What do you all think about that online pokemon game's pokemon compared to the 4th gens?

@Jonny: I said that in my post! :0

Well, it might be, but I don't think its worth debating. besides, the more gods and demons we name, the more we prove my point, right? XD

@Shaun: I thought it was pretty good. Too bad when you use a defense lowering move, it sets you next attack to auto-kill... I can't get past Brock because of Onyx's screech...
