Luck is a huge factor in all games. In YGO you could have all the luck in the world, and still get your ass handed to you without real strategy.

I'll only agree that it's cheaper to play magic.

But that was the problem. At the high levels of Yu-Gi-Oh! where I played, specifically last 3 rounds and top 8 of Regionals and SJC's, along with all of Nats, skill became a non-factor, because everyone was tuned to the point where they could make the best choice out of a limited decision string. Thus, matches degenerated to luck, or occasionally an obscure play that was a risk based on a bad draw, typically an all-or-nothing play. In the early rounds of such events, there wasn't that problem, as players simply tended to play worse. Strategy mattered very little.

With Magic, you aren't hampered by a little decision string, a good deal of which is due to mulliganing, a feature unavailable in Yu-Gi-Oh!

Yu-Gi-Oh! is a very good game, strong mechanics for the most part, but poor, lazy card design has left little to the creative brain, and left too much an element of luck around.

I agree with what Sheed is saying. Although I haven't played much Magic I can say that Yu-Gi-Oh's cards made it an unbalanced game.

There must have been a huge lack of oversight when these cards were being created, especially in the beginning. Cards were being made from ones on the show. While on the show the writers will be choosing who wins, so no matte the great card advantage Pot of Greed or Harpies' Feather Duster gave the bad guy, the good guy would win. When these cards were put into a real environment they were way too over powered and centralized the metagame. Eventually a band list was created, but considering the cards were still being made with a real lake of over sight this could not solve the problem.

On the other hand, my experience with Magic shows it to be a much more strategy based game. Not everything is so centralized and the cards are much more balanced. There isn't a huge background to the game where everyone is counting +1s and -1s for card advantage like there is in Yugioh.

Ah, well I was never into the whole Regionals and SJCs. I never took the game that far. But when you're just chilling out and playing, it's always down to who is better at the game. I love though how people will pull out their key monster sit and smile at you, attack, and then you'd just flip a Sakeratsu Armour.

I haven't played magic so I can't compare, but YGO is really the only card game I can be bothered with. Also, it has my favourite dragon of all time...

Blue Eyes. :L

When it came to YGO, I had a burn deck (relies on card effects, not battle damage, to rape LPs). I don't care what you pulled out, unless it negated the effects of flip monsters, you were fucked. I havn't played much magic, but I've watched my friends play, and I think I'm starting to get it lol.

Well, online-wise, I play Halo 3, Banko Kazooie: N&B, other various 360 games, and a few on PC. Star Wars, BF 2 and Halo mostly.

Not a fan of playing ANYTHING competitivly...

...well, Pokemon's now become one thanks to getting owned by a well known Pokemon person twice. XD (and then being challenged left right and center for a long while... bad times)

I seem to spend more of my time discussing and critiquing games than I actually do play them.

That said, I will rape any of you in Crysis Wars
