 You gotta know that gym leaders never really worked by strategy. It was more of a typing team. So you can't have a "Sandstorm Team". It'd have to be something like a Ground or Rock type team. Overthrown over here has the right idea with the whole Bug-type gym thing. You should look into that too. As for the extra Pokemon, while I don't mind there being a different type of Pokemon in the team, I think it would be cool if the slot could be used for your favorite Pokemon. That's what I would do lol
