Abomasnow @Life Orb
EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 SDef
Nature: Adamant (+Atk, -SAtk)
Ability: Snow Warning
-Seed Bomb
-Ice Shard
-Leech Seed
-Protect
-------------------------------
Overview/Role:

When people hear the word "uber", they think of powerful legendary Pokemon like Raquaza, Dialga and Garchomp all battling it out. Many non-ubers like Blissey, Tyranitar, and Scizor are also well adjusted to this metagame since they fill a specific role. The Uber metagame is filled with Pokemon constantly switching the climate such as Kyogre and Groudon Even Tyranitar fits quite comfortably in ubers now that Sandstream grants it a massive Sp. Defense boost. So what about the other non-uber weather changer known as ABomasnow? Is he viable in the uber metagame or is he just a useless BL Pokemon uncapable of surviving where the top dogs clash?

You may be surprised to find out Abomasnow can work really well in the Uber metagame. It certainly isn't an all-powerful sweeper like Mewtwo or Garchomp and it isn't going to be taking too many hita like Lugia and Giratina can. However, the key to using it is to take advantage of what makes it unique so that it can fill its own niche in the Uber metagame. In Abomasnow's case, its unique ability SNow Warning and type combo are what really make him unique.

Moves:
Seed Bomb is Abomasnow's most powerful attack on this set, although it is mainly used to attack Kyogre. However, Kyogre, especially with Water Spout, is an extremely deadly special sweeper when it has rain backing it up. Abomasnow's ability, SNow Warning changes that effect. Since Choice Scarf Kyogre is one of the most widely used lead in Ubers, use this Abomasnow as the lead for your team. Abomasnow is much slower, so it'll provide a nasty surprise for Kyogre when the rain it sets up gets immediately erased and replaced by Hail. Now its water attacks will not get the boost it gains from the rain. The fun does not stop Abomasnow's type combo shines in this matchup because it gains resistance to Water and Thunder while taking neutral damage from Ice Beam allowing it to effectively takes every hit Kyogre can throw at it. Seed Bomb is supereffective against Kyogre and can even OHKO it with proper EV investment. If it fails to OHKO it, it will leave Kyogre at low health making Water Spout useless for the rest of the match since Water Spout loses power if Kyogre is at low health =D

Ice Shard is there for two specific Pokemon whose names are Deoxys-A and Rayquaza. Deoxys-A is a very powerul sweeper capable of tearing teams to pieces with its massive offensive stats and blistering speed. Ice Shard gets priority and can get the OHKO on both! It's not always guaranteed to deal 100% damage, but Abomasnow has the weather on its side making an OHKO verly likely since Hail damage will take its toll. Simply Protect to scout the move either Pokemon decides to use against you , then wait for Hail to damage it. That tiny bit of damage is just enough to ensure that you will always OHKO it when you follow up with an Ice Shard. Hail damage also negates the effect of Focus Sash which can prove useful during the match.

Rayquaza is another sweeper that no one wants to face especially when it's hitting things with a Dragon Danced or Swords Danced Outrage. However, its quadruple weakness to Ice gives Abomasnow an advantage over Raquaza. Rayquaza's ability Air Lock makes it immune to Hail, but you can easily negate that effect by packing a Stealth Rocker on your team.

Ice Shard is also a great weapon for revenge killing. Nothing is immune to Ice, so any severely weakened opponent can be taken down. It also helps that there are a lot of Dragon and Flying Pokemon in Ubers that are weak to Ice. Again, you can use the Protect+Ice Shard combo mentioned above if you're not sure that a single Ice Shard would do the job.

Now that we have the offensive moves taken care of, we can concentrate on Abomasnow's defensive moves. Leech Seed is a great move that Abomasnow can take advantage of. It's even more useful in Ubers. There are absolutely no uber Pokemon immune to Leech Seed and the only viable Grass-types here are Exeggutor, Jumpluff, and other Chlorophyll users (and all of them need to beware of Ice Shard). Another nice thing is that many ubers have tons of HP and the more HP an opponent has, the more health that can be recovered by using Leech Seed allowing Abomasnow to survive even longer.

Finally there is Protect, which has a couple of uses. The most obvious one is to combine with Leech Seed in order to give one turn of free healing. Considering that this Abomasnow doesn't have Leftovers, that one turn can mean a lot. And during that turn, the opponent will also have taken damage from Hail, assuming they aren't holding Leftovers. Leech Seed plus Hail amounts to 18.75% damage which can add up quickly allowing you to have an advantage over the opponent. Protect also scouts for attacks from Choice item sweepers.

EVs:
The EV spread appears simple, but there's a bit more to it. The Max HP inested into this set lets Abomasnow take hits better from both physical and special attacks, although special attacks are more of a concern in Ubers. 252 Evs in Attack isn't just there for the sake of maxing it out. It actually reaches a critical number. It allows you to deal a minimum of around 94% damage to Kyogre with Seed Bomb. Since Hail does around 6% damage to the opponents Pokemon, this means that a Protect+Seed Bomb combo will always OHKO Kyogre.

To show what this little pine tree is capabale of, I have listed some damage calculations for your viewing pleasure:

I've only used Abomasnow in Hail teams, not in uber, I'll try it.
