Welcome to the new forums, as you can tell, we are now using ZetaBoards,
which appears to be a lot easier to use than Invisionfree, and looks a lot nicer as well.
Of couse this will mean you have to start your post count all over, but I don't
really think it matters all that much, seeing as how we get these great looking
forums now. Hope you have a great time, and bring lots of people.

We hope you enjoy your visit.

Ok, in this post I will summarize the do's and do not's of making a competitive team.

Firstly, you team should consist of the following:

1x Physical Wall
1x Special Wall
1x Mixed Wall / Supporter
1x Physical Sweeper
1x Special Sweeper
1x Mixed Sweeper

What They Mean

Which to Use?

You may be saying to yourself, wow, that's a lot of pokemon! It is, and here I will show you how to pick the best pokemon that can compliment each others strengths and weaknesses.

Ok, let's pick 6 pokemon from above that we shouldn't use together.

Physical Wall: Gliscor
Special Wall: Blissey
Mixed Wall: Dusknoir
Physical Sweeper: Garchomp
Special Sweeper: Gengar
Mixed Sweeper:Salamence

You may ask, what's wrong with that? They are all pokemon that fit the role they are meant to, right? Maybe so, but look at this.

Weavile@Life Orb
Adamant
252 Atk, 216 Spd, 42 HP

Night Slash
Swords Dance
Brick Break
Ice Punch

This pokemon is capable of taking out your entire team. Let me show you how.

Gliscor: Ice Punch
Blissey: Brick Break (Along with Swords Dance)
Dusknoir: Night Slash
Garchomp: Ice Punch
Gengar: Night Slash
Salamence: Ice Punch

Your entire team is slower than Weavile, hence it will get the first hit on all of your pokemon and you lose. That is the importance of having a "Well Rounded Team". You need to minimise the combined weaknesses of your pokemon, and maximize the coverage of pokemon you can defeat. This would be an example of a "good" team:

Physical Wall: Weezing
Special Wall: Blissey
Supporter: Tentacruel
Physical Attacker: Weavile
Special Attacker: Salamence
Mixed Attacker: Infernape

The reason this is a good team is that they cover weaknesses of others. Blissey, as a Special Wall, has a low defense stat, and hence pokemon such as Heracross (One of the most common) are able to beat it. That is where Weezing comes in. Weezing has a high Defense stat, as well as a typing that resists almost every common attack used by Heracross, thus, Heracross' attacks won't be very strong against it. Tentacruel you may say, is a Special Wall! Why have 2 Special Walls? It says Supporter!

Well, Tentacruel acts as a Dual Special Wall / Supporter. Tentacruel is capable of learning both Rapid Spin and Toxic Spikes. Rapid Spin is able to remove Stealth Rock, Spikes and Toxic Spikes that your opponent has used against you, which helps the pokemon like Weavile and Infernape who are badly hurt by these attacks. Also, Tentacruel is able to use Toxic Spikes itself, allowing you to get the upper-hand on your opponent when they switch in.

If you look at the Sweepers, all of those pokemon have different typing, and are capable of learning largely diverse moves, allowing for maximum coverage at minimal exposure. This is an example of a good team.

*REMEMBER! This is not the only set of pokemon that work well together. Many different pokemon are able to combine well with others, and it is up to you to determine this! Also remember that the pokemon I have stated aren't the only pokemon of those types, there are many more. Search around and find new pokemon that can combine to combat each others weaknesses. By no means should you limit yourself.

Closing Statement:
