Name: Hitomi Akiyama Gender: Female Age: 16 Class: Taiyoutono sophomore student, 2-1 Clubs/Occupation: Music club. Plays the piano. Personality: Hitomi is a very cheerful, upbeat, and optimistic girl who seems to take all things in stride. Any difficulties or detours in her path blow over her with a smile and a seemingly-infinite wellspring of patience. While one would expect her to be more reclusive or just less social, her difficulties in life only seemed to further spur on Hitomi’s determination to succeed, make friends, and enjoy her life. If there’s a problem, she’s very eager to help out however she can. It’s not always the best kind of help and she at least seems a little dim, naïve, and overly trusting, but nobody can fault Hitomi’s sheer optimistic determination no matter how steep the adversity. This doesn’t mean she’s a doormat though. If someone is being unfair, she’ll politely but firmly say so and speak up for herself. While not prone to outright snarking, Hitomi cherishes every opportunity to make a joke or tease about being blind and especially so against people being discriminatory. History: Hitomi was born into a family of a florist boutique shop owner and a hole-in-the-wall restaurant owner whose businesses were right next to one another in Uptown Nagashima. Mr. and Mrs. Akiyama did well for each other, becoming fast friends, cross-promoting each other, even making informal loans to cover expenses if in need. They weren’t big name stores, but did well enough to live modestly and that was enough for them. They eventually married. After having accumulated enough savings, they wanted to share the world with a child – Hitomi, they settled on for a name, as the father insisted they would have a daughter – and began their preparations. As genetic screen was beyond their means, all they knew was a confirmation that they were in fact having a daughter and all ultrasound results came back seeming fine. When she was born, however, there was a problem later confirmed through testing. Hitomi was blind, a result of a genetically inherited eye disease. While understandably devastated, the risks and expense of any corrective surgeries were too great of a burden and so her parents sought other assistance in helping their daughter through the world. Canes, braille tutors, special accommodations in school, and similar kept Hitomi on track academically. Some students found her strange, either from difficulty with social cues and similar or from being almost insufferably positive. Consequently, any bullying she endured was brief. Only her parents would know Hitomi was a bright student, as her test scores were not posted with everyone else’s, and so assumptions were made that someone like her must not be terribly smart. But that was fine. She forgave them. During her first year in Taiyotono High, Hitomi was introduced to the music club and immediately grew enamored with the piano there. Though not given braille on the keys, the texture was unique enough for Hitomi to understand which key was where and what note, leading to her being moderately successful with it. Now in her second year, she looks even more forward to learning how to play and make friends with more people. Friends make everything better. Appearance: Artwork by kotobo noriak. Warning: big image As one might expect, Hitomi’s clothes tend to be simple, easy to put on and take off, and have very little color coordination unless it was bought for her by someone else. She always has a resting smile, walking at a brisk pace as if the world embraces her every step, and has an understandable habit of not quite staring where a person actually is when speaking to them or invading their personal space on accident among other quirks. While her speech itself has no notable quality beyond being a bit high and saccharine, her facial expressions aren’t always in sync with her speech or communication. Current Weapon/Combat Skill: ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha no. Hitomi has no experience fighting anything and would be completely helpless against anyone or anything who couldn’t be reasoned with. She’d more than likely just accept any beatings given to her and try to escape rather than fight back.
