One day after A Small Walk.

Date was living mostly on his own now, that meant responsibilities like cleaning your own room and the like. Today, he needed to buy some groceries. As he went to tge grocery store with plastic bags around his arm, Date went off to downtown, with his earbuds in his ears and music playing through them. However, he still had yesterday's events in his mind, as well as a weird hope and at the same time dread that this Naoki kid would show up. He still did not exactly know how to explain this. Date never had real friends, but out of all people in Nagashima, why this kid? Why would he be his friend? Date pondered this as he wandered through the town.

Naoki weaved his way through the downtown area, trying to hurry to the nearest grocery mart. They needed to restock on some ingredients, but since his mom had to work that evening, it fell to him to do the shopping. As he neared the area though, he caught sight of something he didn't expect; a new student he had recently met, apparently planning on doing the exact same thing. Well, he didn't have to get the shopping done right away, and they had sort of made plans to hang out in the city at some point, so why not kill some time?

Naoki jogged down the street towards Date, holding his hand up in greeting when he believed the other boy had noticed him. "Hey, now there's a coincidence! Doing some shopping?" he asked, pointing at the bags around Date's arms.

Date was truly not dissapointed as he heard and saw a familiar figure coming to him. "Oh hello. Yes, you know, since I am living mostly by myself now." He went to Naoki and offered his hand for a shake. "But what brings you here?" At that moment he remembered what they agreed to yesterday. Maybe this Naoki kid wanted to really be... friends? A ludicrous thought, but Date would just let him explain. Maybe they could do something after Date had finished his shopping. But his doubts about this child still have not completely went by. Was this kid really "save" or would he just bring danger. Well, there is only one way to find out.

Naoki paused for a moment to think at Date's question. He didn't want to say he was out for shopping too, or else that would probably just lead to them both shopping and moving on their respective ways. A waste of a perfectly good opportunity. So, he went with the next best thing.

"Just headed out for a bite to eat. Wanna join me before you buy your groceries, that way they don't spoil while we chow down?" Naoki asked, gesturing around. There were certainly plenty of places to eat in the area, ranging from fancy restaurants to your standard fast food. Of course, everyone's favorite ramen shop was open for business as well.

Sitting down for some food would give them time to talk as well, and if Date didn't already have anything in mind, Naoki certainly did. His hand unconsciously reached into his pocket, curling around the deck of cards he always carried around. It had been a while, but maybe his fortune telling was still up to snuff. If he was lucky, he might even be able to use it to coax some more info out of the boy...

In his mind, Date thought that Naoki wanted to eat with him for a reason other then that his groceries would get spoiled. He pointed to the popular ramen shop near them. "How about we go to that place?" For him, the fancy restaurants were to expensive and the food was what he would call "pointless", as in "why waste money on something so expensive" and the fast food was just too unhealthy. Date slowly made his way to the shop, waiting for Naoki to follow. Who knows, maybe Date could get some more information out of him?

Naoki nodded and smiled at Date's suggestion. "Good choice!" he said, jogging to catch up and then taking the lead into the shop proper. It was a fairly standard ramen-ya, with a choice of either sitting at the bar or in a booth. Naoki found himself a couple empty seats at the former and immediately went to hail down the chef.

"Master! A regular miso for me," he said, the man acknowledging the order with nothing but a nod before turning to look at the other newcomer. Meanwhile, Naoki pulled the deck of cards out of his pocket and flipped through them, making sure all fifty-two were there. They always were, but he always had to make sure.

Now following Naoki, Date too, taking a seat next to Naoki, stated his order: "Me too please." Then, hearing a flipping sound, looked at his companion, only to see the deck of cards Naoki had shown Date when they first met. "Like I said, I can't play anything, unless you want to teach me? Or do you wanna read my future?" The last comment was meant to be a joke and he laughed a little while checking his pockets, making sure that his phone as well as his wallet were still there.

Naoki laughed at Date's last comment. He certainly wasn't expecting the other boy to be the one to bring up the topic. "You know, that doesn't sound like a bad idea actually. Feel like getting your fortune told?" he said, shuffling the deck a few times before passing it over towards Date. "Here, shuffle it around a few times. Even just mix it up a bit. For a good fortune reading, the deck has to get to know you first," Naoki said with a grin.

This was going to be fun.

It was meant as a joke, but it turned into an akward reality for Date when Naoki really pulled through with it. A little surprised, Date asked before taking the deck: "You don't actually believe in a superstition like this, right? Nah, you're just pulling my leg." Date was reluctant to do these kinds of things. For him, it was mere superstition which only a fool could believe in. He still was convinced that Naoki was pranking him again, so he made a slightly ajward but smiling face:" That's just some test, right?"

Naoki shrugged at Date's questioning, softly laughing a bit before answering. "Fact, superstition, reality, fantasy, truth, fantasy... How can anyone ever know? Asking me directly whether I believe it's real, I'd answer no. But if you were to ask me if it's complete bogus, I'd also answer no. Of course, I like to play the part and put on a good show, but something like this isn't so much about how close to the truth it is - after all, it can always be spun in a way that it fits anyone - but rather what it shows about the person in question. For example, I haven't even started and I can already tell you're very grounded in reality. Which wouldn't be a bad thing if you didn't pick this city to live in," Naoki said nonchalantly, as if talking about the weather.

He then extended his hand and pointed at the deck before leaving it there palm up. "So, since you don't believe the cards will say anything about you, want to at least humor me and see what you have to say about the cards?" he asked.
