Chisato had to restrain herself from reflexively grabbing Naoki's forearm and twisting it to keep him from going anywhere. "Wakahisa-san!" Akari said in surprise. "He's awake!" Tomoyo yelped. "The healing worked that fast??" Miharu squeaked. To the last thing, Chisato shook her head as she crossed her arms. Her dark purple eyes shot daggers at Naoki. "That's not it," she said. "From what he's saying, he's been awake the entire time and only pretended to be knocked out." His little attempt to shoot back Chisato's presumptions right back at her failed to phase her, though she did arch an eyebrow. "And you didn't do anything such as stalking in order to get intel on Akari in order to know her background, where she lived, and then whisk her away for fun times?" Chisato retorted in a deadpan fashion. "Listen, I'm just here to take her home, but if you really want a beating that bad, I can dish it." "Yes!" Tomoyo said a little too excitedly. "Sonozaki-san!" Miharu scolded. "What?" This time, Akari looked a little panicked and she got in between Naoki and Chisato with her hands raised up as if to stop the two from devolving into bickering. "N-now, now! Let's just hold on for a second!" she said. "Chisato, Wakahisa-san really is a nice guy! Perhaps he doesn't look like he's in such a good light now, but I really did come here because I wanted to." "You let a guy take you, a blind person, out into the middle of the night without knowing where you were going," Chisato deadpanned. "Err...yes, but Naoki's harmless! I even managed to hit him on the head, didn't I?" "Hit him good, too," Tomoyo said. Miharu glared at her silver-haired companion. Akari continued. "He was even giving me the option of us just staying in the courtyard, which I'm sure you saw since you also happened to be spying on me, right?" The last part was said with emphasis as if trying to guilt-trip Chisato, which to a degree worked as manifested by Chisato's pointing and slight blush. The latter snorted. "W-well...! You still have to come home!" she said. "Your parents are not going to like this, and I get that you feel restricted at your house, but do you really have to put yourself at risk like this all the time? Is going out with this guy for coffee not as doable?" Akari smiled sheepishly. "It was a spur-of-the-moment thing, but I see your point," she said. Akari hugged herself temporarily before leaning her ear in Naoki's direction. "I guess we wrapped up more or less what we had to say here anyways, didn't we?" "I-it is getting late..." Miharu added. "Mmm...yeah, I'm sleepy," Tomoyo said. Chisato merely continued to squint at Naoki. Akari looked at Naoki in apology and then made a small smile. "Don't worry," she said. "I won't make it hard for you to find me next time. You said you wanted my contact number, right? Chi-chan, think you can write it down for him?" Chisato's eyes widened in disbelief. Her scowl then deepened. "Why would I do that?" "Because it's better I meet him in ways that are suitable than sneaking off with him at ungodly hours?" Chisato stared hard at Akari before clicking her tongue and pulling out a pen and a folded receipt from her pocket. She used the back of the receipt to scribble. "Don't give him a fake number now!" "I'm not!" Chisato would finish and then hand it over to Akari. Akari in turn would step closer to Naoki and lean forward, so that she could whisper in his ear. As she did, she'd open his hand and place the paper in his palm. "Sorry to leave you hanging again," she said. "But don't worry. Next time you'll know where to find me. Rooftop. Lunch. As usual." |

Naoki shrugged and smirked as Chisato shot back at him. "Sharp. Rather than a beating, you wouldn't happen to be willing to say this never happened, would you? I feel like we could get along pretty well," he said back just before Akari jumped between them. Defending him, which was kind of ironic, but welcome all the same; maybe he wouldn't have to look over his shoulder for the next three days. He let the girls talk things out, speaking up at the mention of Akari's number. "Right! That was all I really wanted in the first place, but things kind of escalated. Our last meeting got cut short, and I couldn't get in touch with her. Can you really blame me for getting worried?" he said once Chisato had finished, and as he accepted the number from Akari and heard her whisper, he couldn't help but chuckle a little before turning his head so the others couldn't see his lips before whispering back, angling his head down and fishing for his own phone in a shoddy attempt to disguise the movement - he needed it anyway, though. "Will we finally get to finish a conversation then?" he asked before punching the number into his phone and then holding it up, waiting for Akari's phone to confirm that he had indeed gotten the correct number. "Feel free to add that to your own phone, too, Chi-chan. I get the feeling you're going to anyway, and I also get the feeling we'll be seeing a lot more of each other. But I should probably get going for now, seeing as you've got things under control," he said, slowly inching his way backwards towards the door. However, he suddenly stopped, gesturing a finger towards Akari as he spoke one last time. "Oh, and just a little fun fact... If you don't let birds out of their cages every now and then, they'll forget how to fly. Maybe consider leaving the door open every now and then? Anyway, later!" he said, backing out through the doorway before sidestepping out of sight and hiding, hoping to catch any last exchange between the girls before taking off. Now to come up with a way to explain this mess to his partner... |

Upon Naoki suggesting that Chisato and the others pretend nothing had happened, she merely stared at him. "No." She'd narrow her eyes as Akari approached Naoki and whispered in his ear. When Naoki asked a question, Akari merely pursed her lips. "Hmmm...maybe?" she said playfully before giggling. Chisato rolled her eyes. Chisato did, however, nod when he tried to confirm if that was her number. "You don't have to worry about me finding ways to contact you," she said bluntly. And then, shooting daggers at Naoki with her yes, "I have my ways. And don't ever call me Chi-chan." Naoki himself would go on to leave and abandon them, but not without making a sly remark about letting birds out of cages. Her brow furrowed at the remark, but she merely yawned. "Speaking of birds, if that sneaky fox tries to head to you again, I'll be ready with Lyudmila's shotgun," she said. Akari snickered. "You're as bad as Joseph, Chisato," she said. Chisato merely shrugged. "What can I say? I learned from my dad. My dad learned from him. It runs in the business. Now, let's go before everyone catches their death of cold. I also have an exam coming up, and I'd REALLY like to ace it." "Um...Chisato?" Tomoyo's voice would come from behind. As Akari and Chisato turned in her direction, Tomoyo and Miharu were sitting on the couch with Miharu sleeping rather heavily as she leaned on Tomoyo's arm. "My arm's, ah, kinda getting a little numb. Think we can call up that friend of yours to drive us to our homes?" Chisato's scowl disappeared for a moment seeing Miharu sleeping rather peacefully like a toddler. "I told her she didn't have to go with us," she said. "Alright, let's get everybody home." A few moments would pass and Chisato's former friend from the orphanage arrived with her car. The drive home was quiet save for the steady hum of the engine from the outside. Miharu and Tomoyo slept on both Chisato and Akari's sides, leaving the two sandwiched in the middle of the seat. "Mmm, Chisato?" "Yeah?" Akari hunched over and sighed. She was about to speak, but Chisato beat her to it. "Don't," she said plainly. "You don't need to apologize. I...I understand why you did it." "You do?" Chisato was quiet for a moment and then sighed. "...yeah. I don't hold it against you," she said. Like a child, she slowly reached out for Akari's hand and squeezed it, scared that she'd suddenly slip away again or dissipate into thin air. "Just...just promise me...you'll let me know if you go somewhere. That you just won't leave without letting me know again?" Akari's expression softened. "Chisato, you don't have to worry about me going again, I--" "Promise me," she said. Unlike many times before, Chisato's voice was not harsh or steady. In fact, it was quaking. Scared, even. Akari rarely saw Chisato like this, and it made her wonder why this suddenly mattered so much. She smiled though and leaned on Chisato's shoulder. "I promise," she said. Akari would briefly hear Chisato sniffle. "I'm glad I'm talking to you again," the girl muttered a little bashfully. "I'm glad too, Chisato. I'm really, really glad." |
