Yes… I’d sell the souls of all humanity to the devil if I thought it’d get us a happy ending.

It had all started out as a plan to put some of her 'research' to good use. Aiko wasn't sure how everything would go because by all intents and purposes she wasn't doing things as she normally did. If she was going to use the books she got from Haru to any good use, she would have to change her dating tactics... a bit. Besides, the girls that were in her year had talked up online dating as the new thing to do now. What could go wrong? Well... Everything. "And that's when me and the guys turned the corner and spotted Megumi-chan and the others doing the- Uh, Aiko-san? You're listening, right?" The schlubby guy that Aiko had the misfortune of matching with this day asked as the girl in question absentmindedly munched on her straw. Mistake 1: He didn't look like his profile photo. Mistake 2: He started off calling her "Aiki-chan". No. And then Mistake 3 was him carrying on about some con he went to with all his just-as-nerdy friends and droning on and on and oooon beyond the point that she even cared. Sure she went to her own cons, but she didn't bug people with them without provocation. "Huh? Oh yeah, you and Magami-chan with the cosplay..." "Megumi-chan, but yeah! She looked soooo cute in her Phoenix Featherman outfit and-" And so the guy kept talking, despite Aiko's clear disregard for whatever he was saying. Even with all that 'advice', this is all I get, huh? Aiko thought bitterly as she dropped the straw back into the glass and watched it slowly circle the rim of the glass. |

Even with all the time Haru spent at their library job, most of their paycheck still went to the upkeep of the apartment and other essentials for the family. Still, they had more pocket money than they had in the past, so they didn’t feel too guilty about going to splurge a little at Tanjiro. ‘Splurge,’ to Haru, meant buying a single drink and then walking around, window shopping hungrily. That was a cute sweater, over there - they wanted that. Oh, and that lunch special looked real good. And there was Aiko, just… Huh? Haru blinked, making sure they had the right person. That was Aiko, alright - it looked like she was hanging out with someone. A guy? Was she on a date? They peered closer. She… really did not look very happy. Maybe it was a bad date. After a moment of consideration, Haru made the decision to continue examining the situation. Sipping their peach-flavored drink as nonchalantly as possible, Haru awkwardly shuffled forward, trying to establish eye contact with Aiko. If they did, they would shoot her a questioning look. |

"They were selling autographs at 2000 Yen each, which I think is a little expensive by the way, but with the pictures she had taken I guess it really was worth it" The Guy continued, oblivious to Aiko's done-with-this-ness of the whole situation. She had already resigned herself to the whole situation at this point, and all she needed to do was just wait it all out for an acceptable amount of time before she excused herself. "Then me and the guys decided to check out some of the doujins on the lower floors and-" Oh gooooods someone save me noooow Aiko moaned internally as her eyes lazily drifted away from her bad date and off into the crowd of the shopping center around her. Luckily for her, it didn't take long for her to catch sight of someone familiar. "You know I just remembered that I had something planned today with a friend and I completely forgot!" Aiko said suddenly as she slammed her palms down on the table and stood up. Her "date" looked up at her with a shocked expression and tried to protest, but Aiko was already on the move. "It was so great talking to you don't call me I'llcallyoukaythanksbai!~" "Haru-sama hiiii!" she practically sang as she wrapped an arm around their shoulders, now sporting a genuine grin. "How's it been? What brings you too a place like this and also can we maybe walk a little bit faster until we get out of eyesight of this place maybe?" |

A lot of stuff happened at once. Aiko left her date, ran towards Haru, and them wrapped her arm around them and began walking them away from the present location as quickly as possible. "I-I, wait, what's happening?" Their face flushed for a moment before they ducked their head and slipped out of Aiko's arm. Despite this, they didn't stop, instead walking alongside Aiko. Though they were immediately a bit flustered by the whole situation, Haru recognized what was happening. "I was just... um... hanging out. Were you, uh...?" Haru glanced back at who was, presumably, Aiko's former date. They didn't know for sure, though. It could be something less serious... or it could actually be worse. Haru hesitated, then whispered, "You're not in any danger, right?" |

"Nope nothing wrong at all how about we just go just a biiiit farther..." Aiko continued saying hurriedly until Haru and her were finally out of Bad Date's eyesight. A quick peek around the corner revealed they were finally alone (well as much as alone as one could be in the shopping center) before Aiko felt confident and safe enough to mostly explain the situation to Haru. "Sorry I'm uh, not in any danger or anything I just really wanted to not be at that table anymore. It's uh... well it's kind of a long story. I mean, I guess 'I had an amazingly terrible date' isn't too long of a story or anything so-Yeah. I had a terrible date. How was your day?" She tried to put on a cheerful grin to defuse the admittedly awkward situation she had made for the two of them, but she didn't know all too well how it was working. Probably not all that well. |

Haru frowned. "Oh." While they were glad to hear that was all that had happened, they weren't glad the date had gone so poorly. Though, they were glad that Aiko was going off and finding dates after all that other stuff had happened? Haru felt a lot of things about the present situation, and they weren't entirely sure which one to go with. "Uh, it's going alright," they answered. "I haven't done much today. Just went to school and then came here..." They switched their drink between hands, pausing in thought. "Can I ask why you were on a date? Like, where'd you find this guy? Why was he so bad?" |

"'Oh' is about right, yeah. 'Oh'. Today's been a really 'Oh' day if you really think about it" Aiko replied as she snuck glances behind her to make sure that HellDate wasn't trying to get an answer for her sudden departure; which he wasn't. That was good! "Good thing you've had a better day than me so far though. I'd hate to see what series of events would make it worse than what I've had so far..." Oh riiiiight, Haru-dono is still in school. Yeesh, bad dating pool back there too. Well, for most of the year that was-Bah! C'mon girl, get your head back in the game! The game of not thinking of depressing things and talking with your personal savior for the afternoon Aiko thought. "Sure you can ask! I mean, it's a pretty innocent question. Especially coming from my love-life coach and everything" she replied as she slyly nudged Haru's side. "I was just trying out some of stuff from those books and all. Throwing myself back out into the single-and-searching life again to see if I had any luck yet. Turns out I didn't." Aiko pointed her index finger at her head and mimicked firing a gun. "And he was just... Well the right word escapes me at the moment, so I'm just going to go with 'lame' for the time being." |

Haru flushed when Aiko called them her 'love-life coach,' quietly taking a sip of their drink. They'd said all those things in the library, but man, their own love life was definitely a disaster. They thought back to the whole situation with Emi and Senjiro, then immediately decided to stop thinking about it and focus on Aiko's issues. "I see..." Haru mused. "I'm sorry to hear it went badly. There's plenty of fish in the sea, though! Or something like that..." They thought for a moment, then nodded their head and added, "Still, you shouldn't feel rushed to jump right back into dating. You can always take a break! You're still young, after all." They paused. "I think." Another pause, then a curious glance. "... I don't know how old you are," Haru admitted. "You're not in school, right?" |

"Bah, c'mon. You don't need to beat yourself up over it. If I gave up every time I had a bad date I would have given up... well quite a few times. I may have lost count to be honest." Aiko shrugged nonchalantly, taking notice of the brief flush of her friend's face. So the talk at the library wasn't a fluke then, huh? Heh. I could be really mean and push the blush faster, but I don't think I got it in me after spending time with that guy. Friendly talk it is! "Hah, no offense but I've told myself that whole 'plenty of fish' thing before so many times I'm starting to think fishing isn't my game. I mean it's either that or I need to start fishing in a smaller pond or something. Metaphorically speaking I mean, I don't even like to fish at all to be honest. I mean, I've been once but it was just sooo boring and we didn't even catch anything so... I'm rambling again, sorry." Aiko knew that she could have taken a break from it all, it was a pretty hard truth of the matter. But she just... didn't want to. As much as she gave school a hard time at being mostly boring and waste of a good afternoon, it was still a place she and her friends had plenty of time to hang out and have fun with. Now with everyone from her year out of school and off doing their own things however... Aiko shook her head. Gah, why do I keep thinking about that kinda stuff? Is it because I'm being cooped up in the house too much? I mean it's never been a problem before so why start bothering me now? "Hey hey hey, you trying to tell me I'm already looking like an old lady, Haru-sama?" Aiko asked playfully with a raised eyebrow. "I'm hurt. And to think that I only graduated last year and I'm already looking like an old maid. Woe is me..." |

Haru, honestly, had no idea where Aiko had taken that fishing metaphor, but they couldn't help but giggle anyway. Wherever it had gone, it was a funny place. "It's okay," they said, "I get what you're saying. I think." Aiko's playful comments brought another blush to Haru's face, but less due to what Aiko actually said and more due to the honorific she used. 'Sama?' Haru really wasn't used to being called that. "Oh, um, that's not what I meant at all! It's the opposite, it's more like.. um..." Haru fidgeted with their fingers, trying to figure out how to word their thoughts. "You don't look that much older than me, but you've already graduated? So I just wasn't really sure..." They hesitated, then continued, "By the way, you really don't have to say 'sama.' Just 'Haru-san' or something would be fine..." |
