In the small hours of the morning, everything was still and quiet. The night was like a blanket that covered all and muffled all sounds. It was a new moon, and the only illumination at the hour was from streetlights, and those left on for security in the quiet neighborhood. The streets were abandoned, at this hour they were the domain of stray animals and the people could have it back with dawn. Everything seemed as it should have been that night. Even when a lone white van rolled up and took an inconspicuous spot at the end of the block. The door on the side slid open and several people in black, obscuring clothing got out and closed it. They moved quickly, quietly and in formation. This all went on without gaining any notice of the residents. The figures reached their destination, and a stately, two level house went dark, all of its lights blinked off in an instant. One of the black clad people approached the front door of the blacked out house, unlocked it and checked inside. When they gave the all clear, the other two quickly entered. Again, it took moments, and not a sound was made. --- Meanwhile, at the same time, in another house in the lot directly behind the yard, Saki Matsuda woke up suddenly. Something was wrong, the green-haired woman's intuitions were telling her that. She sat up from her bed and craned her head to the side to get a chance to hear it better. Gasping. Desperate gasping. Someone was struggling hard to breathe. Dad! The middle aged woman shot up to her feet and grabbed her phone, and darted down the stairs to where her fahter's room was. She tried to call emergency services, but there was no signal at all. She tried one more time as she watched a grey-haired man grasp his chest and contort in pain in his bed. Nothing at all. She abandoned the phone when she realized help wasn't coming that way and panic started to overtake Saki. "Just wait right there dad! I'll uh…oh my god!" Right, first get his medicine! She rifled though the clear amber plastic bottles with shaking hands until she found the right one, popped it open and had two pale pills out. She offered those two him and a nearby plastic water bottle. He sipped them, with some difficulty. She wasn't sure if it was doing anything. They needed help. She picked up the phone and tried again with less urgency. Once more, nothing. "Come on, you worthless piece of shit!" She didn't have a landline phone, it was just her living with her father and since she got him a phone too, it seemed like a pointless expense- his phone! Of course! Saki picked up the clamshell with the over sized buttons and tried that too. Same result. The thirty-something woman frowned and took her dad's hand. At least he seemed to be breathing a bit more stable, but his face was still distorted in pain, and he was still clutching at his chest. "I'm going to have to get you to the hospital, come on lean on me dad it's going to be fine." She sure didn't feel fine. She grasped her keyes on a bowl on the way out the front door --- Hideyoshi wasn't aware of the crisis that was happening so close to him. He wasn't aware that three intruders were in his house either. He was asleep, so he didn't know that his young widow of a neighbor was having the worst night of her life. Or that he was about to experience the same. One of the three black-clad people was slim and shorter than the other two. Likely a woman. She lead and the other two followed under her guidance, they avoided creaking floorboards. The door to his room opened without a creak by slender fingers covered in black leather gloves. The two men crept inside, and she held back an taser. This was all planned out. The shorter and broader of the two men approached closer with a shotgun in hand. The taller one stood aside with a knife in one hand and a stun gun in the other. There was a nervous hesitancy, but it only lasted a moment. The man aimed the gun at Hideyoshi's sleeping figure. He stirred in his slumber then. Bleary-eyed and unaware he wasn't alone. He turned over on his futon to check the phone he left resting by his bed. He saw the barrel of a shotgun. he flailed and jerked his head just as a flash of light and a deafening boom ripped though him. Pain. Shooting, searing pain. A thousand points all over the left side of his face. He clutched at where he was struck and sprang to his feet only to stumble and fall on his back again. A ringing in his ears that wouldn't go away. He hyper-aware of everything around him, but it was only shapes in the darkness. One pressed forward and out of the corner of his eye, he thought he saw a rapid pulsing of light and heard a rhythmic sinister crackle. His body seized up, and he thought he was on fire. In his pain and confusion, all he could think of was to get away. These people meant to kill him and he absolutely had to get away. And so he did. Not trying to run past the one loading another shell in the shotgun, or by the one that followed this shock up by plunging a knife into his stomach. His vision finally adjusted and he saw the last one waiting at the door. He was corner and he barreled though the window without hesitation. He hit the ground hard and there was a bed of broken glass waiting for him. Someone was screaming, screaming so loud and it took him a moment to realize that was his voice. He had to get up, had to get away. --- At the Matsuda's, shortly before. The car had seen better days. It was a dingy green sub compact that was built sometime in the mid nineties. She eased her father into the passenger side and then tried the ignition. The engine sputtered and the frame shuddered, but no matter how much she turned it, that was all it would do. She crossed her arms over the steering wheel and rested her head on top. First the phones, and now her car wasn't cooperating. Her father was going to die for all the stupidest reasons. How was she going to- …Mister Wada! The last time this happened, he got it running right away! "Just hold on a little longer, I'll get us there, i promise!" There wasn't any more time to waste. She decided to cut straight to his place by going over the wall that their back yards shared. The cold night air and damp grass on her feet reminded her that she hadn't even bothered to throw on a coat or grab shoes. She had just gotten to the fence, and was about to climb it when there was a gunshot and shortly after the bedroom window of Hideyoshi Wada exploded as he hurled himself though it. Saki's first instinct was to duck for cover, she still had sort of a vantage point by peering though a gap in the wooden slats of the fence. |

Shou was having a hard time sleeping as usual. Insomnia was a bitch for certain and being alone staring up at the ceiling led to the return of a pretty bad habit. So he went for a walk. The night air helped him clear his mind. There was a tension in the air though. Shou wasn't exactly superstitious by any means, but he'd felt this feeling before. There was an electricity in the air. A feeling of pressure. Shou got the sense that something very bad was going to happen tonight. Maybe he was just being paranoid bu- And just like that, the calm quiet of the night was shattered with a loud bang. Shou's chest tightened up as he ducked down and looked around wildly. He really had hoped he was just being paranoid. He heard the sound of an car engine turning over, then the shattering of a window followed by screaming. He didn't think. He knew better than to second guess himself in this situation. He burst into action, running across the street towards the sound of the screaming. He cut through a backyard and snatched a good size rock before vaulting over a small fence. He had no real weapons to compete with a fucking GUN. A good throw might give him the time he needed to either close the distance or get to cover. As he cleared the fence, it seemed there was only one more wall separating him from whoever needed the help. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw a woman ducked down, peeking through the fence. By her expression, she might be a bystander. He had no time to stop if the situation was as bad as he thought. "Back away!" He called out to her as he steeled himself for whatever was on the other side of the wall. Another vault and he finally arrived. There was a man on the ground screaming and trying to get up. He was covered in his blood and there was glass all around him. Shou's eyes looked around wildly until he spotted the broken glass of the window. The assailants would be up there yeah? Who ever had the gun could simply go to the window and finish the job. Either that or they would run down and pursue him. It was 50/50 at this point. Shou cursed to himself and threw the rock at the broken window as hard as he could. If the gunman did try to take aim from there, he'd get a nasty surprise. Without missing a beat, Shou sprinted over to the man on the ground. "I'm here to help!" He called out to the man immediately. Hopefully he wouldn't assume Shou was just another assailant. At this point, they were wide open. Shou didn't have enough information to be confident about engaging the attackers. Besides, he needed to get the man out of the line of fire in the first place. "Let me get you out of here!" He spoke as he tried to pull the man up. He needed to at least get him to the other side of the wall. |

His body wouldn't move like he wanted it to. There was no sense of balance, he didn't know which way was up so standing was a lost cause for him. The world was cut in half, nothing but blackness from a certain point on left. There was nothing but confusion and terror. There was an acute, ringing din in his ear, it threatened to drown out everything else. He wasn't aware at all of anything except his immediate surroundings. He gathered enough of his bearings and wits to try and crawl away. No destination in mind, just the primal urge to try and survive that compelled him to try. Saki was clearly shocked by the scene she witnessed, but the green-haired woman in the white nightgown clearly had no problems hearing. She looked back when Shou demanded her to. She was at a total loss for words. Meanwhile, the attackers hadn't been standing still. Shou's rock had foiled an attempt to fire upon the floundering Hideyoshi, and the other two were quickly moving down the stairs. But his presence hadn't gone unnoticed and even as he approached, three more people in black also showed up, similarly armed. One leveled a taser at him and fired a pair of darts were flung at him, and if they hit, he could have expected a nasty shock of his own. |

It seemed like Hideyoshi was more focused on trying to crawl away. It seemed like he wasn't even aware Shou was there. He spun on his heel as he heard the sound of more men approaching. Seems like he had no choice here, he'd have to engage. He'd feel much better if this was a more enclosed space. He sprung into action once more, actually running towards the attackers as one leveled a taser at him. At the last second, he broke into a slide. The darts sailed over his head as he swiped at the man's foot. Whether or not he connected, Shou knew that he needed to keep them all off balance as much as possible. He spun around as he rose, kicking at another's groin and finally lashed out with a fist, trying to jab at the third's throat. They all seemed equipped with tasers, if he gave them a chance to use them he'd be done for. Not to mention the other three potentially on the way. Every second that went by, his chances of getting out of this grew more and more slim. His best bet was to overwhelm these three while Hideyoshi tried to escape. If he gets clear off all this then Shou could try and do the same. |

He was like a baby again, crawling on all fours and wailing and nothing in the world made sense. He had no idea who these people were or what they wanted of him other than to clearly kill him. He'd never had to fight for his life, and he was too grievously injured to start that day. So he had to get away, somehow, some way. To do that he had to calm down, somehow. The realization had him pipe down to a jagged wheeze. The ringing in his ear hadn't subsided, and it felt like someone had jabbed a sharp pin in there, did his eardrum rupture from the blast. He didn't even want to think about what his lost vision could have meant. There was no light to guide him by, but he thought he saw it but he was able to vaguely make out the shape of things around him. If he concentrated on sounds beyond that ringing, he could almost make out the other things around. But in Hideyoshi's current condition, even that sounded like whispers at the far end of a long hall. "…ver here! Mister Wada, please this way!" He thought he heard a familiar voice. "You have to come over here!" No doubt about it. That was Saki Matsuda. They he'd had enough friendly chats with her to recognize her voice anywhere. She sounded stressed, and then she screamed. He tried to scramble towards the sound of her voice. --- Meanwhile, for Shou, things hadn't gone as he'd hoped. The first move went as he'd hoped. He avoided the darts attached to crackling diodes by long narrow wires, they sailed right over his head. He had caught that assailant off guard, and he went down. The kick was partially successful, the second Black Hood had tried to block it. At the same time, from a prone position the first one struck out a kick at Shou's leg, aiming towards the knee and attempting to take it from under him. The third had batted his throat strike aside and tried to jam the live but un-fired contacts of his taser into Shou's arm before he could withdraw, Behind them, the woman called out to the man who was crawling on the lawn. She was leaning over the fence and beckoning desperately for him to come towards her. "Wada! Over here! Mister Wada, please this way!" The three in the house were at a sliding glass door that separated the interior from the veranda. One of them shattered the glass pane with a club and they filed out. Now it was six of them on the lawn and avenues of escape were quickly being cut off. But the green-haired woman's presence gave them cause for pause. The three still engaged with Shou didn't have the luxury of thinking about it with their hands full, but the new arrivals from the house glanced among themselves until some decision was reached. "You have to come over here!" The of the six Black Hoods present ,the sole apparent female closed half the distance in the yard, took aim and shot her with her taser. She screamed, and fell back over the fence as the contacts hit her in the shoulder. Meanwhile, the remaining two from the house had advanced on Hideyoshi, intent to complete what they had started. |

Well, this was getting bad fast. Shou was having a hard time keeping everything in sight. The woman he'd seen before was shouting at the prone man, while three more of these assholes came out of the house. Still, Shou couldn't deal with that right now. He rose is leg and blocked the kick with his own shin. Thanks to his physical resistance, he barely felt the blow. What he DID feel however was blinding pain as one of the black hoods stabbed a taser into his arm. His body seized up and he let out a scream as pain coursed through him. Black spots began to appear on his vision. If this kept up... Damn it Shou! Focus! Easy for Jack to say. Still, Shou grit his teeth and managed to bend his knees slightly despite himself. His next maneuver was simply to lunge forward and headbutt the man as hard as he could. Shou staggered backwards after the fact, but caught himself. He had to keep going, if he fell here...Well that might be the end of his story. They all seemed equipped with tasers, so Shou's next move was obviously to get his hands on one. He lashed out at the man who had blocked his groin quick. He feigned a slower kick at the man's stomach before lunging out and trying to grab at the man's hands. If he was successful he'd spin around and try to make him fire his own taser at one of his allies advancing towards Hideyoshi. "Damn it man! Push past the pain! They're coming up behind you!" He shouted. Shou didn't know if his words would help, but he had to try. This was a losing battle and he knew it. |

Shou's last ditch attack connected. The surprised Hood's head reeled back and he staggered several steps away. The one he tripped had got up and the last one moved in from different angles. Hideyoshi was in no shape to do anything of the sort that his would-be benefactor had shouted out to him. His his current state, he still wasn't able to even make out the warning. But neither the brawl or the immanent execution happening a dozen feet away were the pivotal point in this chaos. Everything was far too noisy to not be noticed by neighbors. This wasn't a baron metalworks or some other mostly abandoned sector of the backstreets. A gunshot, followed by cries of distress and agony attracted attention. "Get on the phone with the police and make sure the kids are safe." In pajamas and in a bathrobe, and armed with a 7-iron, a squat middle aged man had investigated what happened on the neighboring property. He didn't see the shotgun, he didn't see all the numbers of assailants, and only a glimpse of Shou's plight. But he did see one of his neighbors clearly in serious trouble. He was something of a delinquent before he got straightened out in high school. But that was a long time ago. So, no one was more surprised than him when he vaulted over the fence and rushed the nearest of those robber bastards screaming and brandishing his weapon. He didn't even realize it was a woman. Nor did he realize the trouble he'd just tossed himself in. He just knew he was angry, and the club made a satisfying 'thump' as it connected with her temple. If Shou was still astute despite the fray, he would have noticed all his enemies seemed equipped with radios, their attention was also briefly turned in the direction of the newest arrival. "Abort" One of them gave the order, And the enemies left as suddenly as they came. They were making a precise, deliberate retreat action. Someone picked up the injured, and another covered them all as they melted back into the night. The would-be hero with the club froze stock still and then started trembling at his first glimpse of gunmetal, but they seemed to be taking pains to ignore him. |

Out of all the scenarios Shou thought possible at this point, a man with a 7-iron coming out of nowhere and clubbing one of the hoods, was definitely not on that list. Shou's chest twisted tightly at the escalation though. He was certainly grateful for the help, but he knew just how dire this situation was. He didn't want anymore people involved. Still, he had other worries. At least that's what he had thought before the men in front of him suddenly turned and started sprinting out of the area. Their movements were so planned out that Shou knew better than to give chase. Chances were he'd end up falling into a trap and be even worse off than he was now. He gave himself a moment, placing his hands on his knees and breathing heavily. A fight that short was by no means exhausting, but he definitely wasn't used to getting tasered. Still, he couldn't just collapse here, there were still other worries. He straightened up and lightly jogged over to where Hideyoshi was laying. As he knelt down, he briefly looked up at the other man. It seemed he was having trouble with what just happened. "Thank you for the help, but can you check on the woman over there? She might be hurt." He pointed over to where she had fallen. It would hopefully keep the man out of his own head while making sure the woman wasn't too badly hurt. With that out of the way, Shou finally turned his attention back to Hideyoshi. His stomach twisted at the sight of all the blood, but he forced himself to push past the nausea. "Hey, can you hear me? Try to focus." He wasn't sure if Hideyoshi could even hear him at this point, but he had to at least try to keep him from falling asleep when he was this bad off. While Shou was trained in basic first aid, he was by no means a doctor. At best he just needed to keep this guy alive till an ambulance arrived. |

"The fuck? Who the hell was that?" He did as he was requested. Pausing over to briefly inspect on Hideyoshi before he traversed to the end of the yard. As he skirted around the garden of broken glass pieces, he muttered something under his breath about Koreans. He went over to the fence and looked over the edge. "Ah, Matsuda-chan too! Who were those people?" He somewhat awkwardly climbed over the fence, and landed gracelessly over the other end with a thud and a curse. Hideyoshi was only reacting when someone new came and grasped him he flinched and braced for the worst. He calmed after he realized that no new attacks were coming. His left palm was pressed against that side of his face and his eye squinted to focus on the face of this stranger. "…who?" On the other side of the fence, the neighbors appeared again. The green-haired woman stood up with a shriek. "Oh, my god! Dad!" She spoke with a fast, harried pace. "My dad needs to go to the hospital! I tried to call them but the phones aren't working and- Please! We have to get him there!" This crisis sounded different than the plight of the attack, but no less serious. |

I have no idea? Thievery gone wrong?" No way, this was a straight up murder attempt. Everything was so coordinated. Shou couldn't help but think this could be the work of the black hoods. He'd certainly heard a lot about them lately. It all depending on whether or not Hideyoshi was a persona user or not. Either way he definitely couldn't tell the other man all this. "I'm here to help. Can you tell me your name?" He just had to keep him conscious at this rate. Give him questions, keep him aware. Fuck, this whole situation was too familiar for Shou. No no no he couldn't think about that now. Not that line of thought. I'm gonna get you help." He was right about to call for an ambulance when the woman suddenly spoke out. The fucking phones!? "Goddamn it..." Shou muttered. Phones are down and now two men are possibly dying. "Do either of you have cars!?" He looked over at the man and woman. "If we can't call we'll have to drive then!" It seemed like such a simple solution, but logic can tend to jump right out the window in situations like this. |
