After briefly stopping by the girl's dorm and parking her motorcycle in the designated lot, Kaoru walked off in search of some kind of food. She'd actually eaten a little bit before arriving at the dorms, when she'd met that girl Hitomi, but talking to irritating people worked up an appetite, apparently.

Thankfully, there was a little cafe a short walk from the dorms: the sign said "Coco'coffee," and while Kaoru didn't know what the name meant, the aroma coming from inside smelled as any food she'd ever eaten. She opened the door and was immediately blasted by the pressure of how many people were in the building.

"Hello!" The server closest to her said. "One moment!"

Uh oh - someone had acknowledged her. It would be rude to leave now. They had to have an empty table, right? She stood there and waited quietly before getting seated, the cheery server pulling her all the way towards the back of the cafe. Kaoru glanced around before sitting in the empty booth - apparently, she'd gotten the only free seat in the ho use.

She smiled quietly to herself, opening the menu the server placed in front of her. That was lucky - hopefully nothing awful happened to mess up her good fortune.

Fuck it, Kenji was getting coffee. He didn't particularly like coffee, but he had exactly nothing else to do right now and he had never been in this place before. 'Coco'coffee.' That was a weird name. Well, whatever. It couldn't be that bad.

Inside, the place looked downright wholesome and inviting. The place was packed, too, so it was probably pretty good. A server ran up to the entrance to greet Kenji. 'Welcome sir!' She announced. 'I'm sorry, but we're out of empty tables. Would it be alright with you if we sat you with someone else?'

Kenji grinned. People who came to restaurants alone were either waiting for someone or wanted to be alone. Either way, they definitely didn't want some stranger showing up and eating with them. It would kill a couple minutes, that was for sure. 'No problem! Lead the way!'

The server led Kenji through the restaurant to a booth with a blue haired girl sitting in it. The server bowed her head slightly towards the girl. 'I'm sorry for the inconvenience, but would it be alright if someone else sat with you?'

Without waiting for an answer, Kenji slid into the opposite booth, scooped up the menu, and started perusing what was for sale. He glanced up a moment later, as if he had just noticed the other patron, and smirk. 'Hi,' he greeted before returning to the menu.

As if on queue, before Kaoru had even been sitting for a minute by herself, the cute server came back with someone else. A kinda mangy-looking dude who wasted no time in sitting across from her and grabbing a menu. Kaoru gawked for a moment at his nerve. Really? This was happening now?

Not even bothering to acknowledge at Kenji, Kaoru turned to the server and said, "I would prefer that this not happen. Are there no other tables with free seats?"

Kenji's smile didn't falter at all as the girl somewhat harshly requested he leave. The server went from a slight head nod to a full on bow. 'I-I'm sorry! There really are no other seats available! This is a peak business hour, after all...'

Her head shot back up and her eyes darted around, obviously flustered. Then her expression lit up as an idea came to mind. 'Oh! Your entrée will be on the house! S-So please let this man sit with you!' She bowed deeply once again.

Kenji shot a mock-surprised look at the server before looking back at the blue hairs girl with an even wider smile than before. 'You hear that?? Free food! Can't beat a deal like that!'

No, no, no; Kaoru was trapped. She couldn't very well say no - the proposition of free food was just too much value for her to pass up. But on the other hand, this guy had just repeated her thought process out loud and generally seemed like an obnoxious asshole. Kaoru was about to get up and just leave the establishment when she remembered the disturbingly light weight of her wallet.

Kaoru sighed. "Yeah. Sure. Ok. Just... give me a number 17 and a black coffee." She handed the menu off to the waitress. Kaoru hadn't even finished looking through the whole menu, but she wanted the food in her stomach and this guy out of her life as fast as possible.

Once the server took the menu and Kaoru was left alone with Kenji, she continued to say nothing, just crossing her arms and looking out the window, hoping something less grating would appear in there.

The server pulled out her notepad with a grateful sigh, jotting down the girl's order, before looking at Kenji for his. The boy took his time looking through the menu. He glanced up at the girl. 'Wow, they really got a spread here, huh? So hard to choose...' He looked through the menu once more before offering it to the server. 'You know what? I'll have what she's having.' He looked back at the girl with a smirk. 'I'll trust your tastes.'

The server hesitated, glancing between the two, before writing down Kenji's order as well. 'Okay! I'll have that out to you as quickly as possible...' She bowed once again and rushed to the kitchen to place the order.

Kenji leaned back in his seat at stared at the girl. She was definitely the loner type. She had probably been all excited to be able to eat out alone and now her day was ruined. She looked pretty strong, too. Maybe he'd be able to get her to fight him. That'd be fun for a little while.

'So,' Kenji said with a shit-eating grin, 'Come here often?'

The server had said she didn't have to pay for her entree. Did that mean she still had to pay for the coffee? Kaoru frowned. She probably should have asked - that way she knew if it was okay to leave without paying if this boy ended up driving her up the wall.

Speaking of which, he was talking to her, which threatened to drive her up the wall by itself. "No," she responded curtly, and that was it.

Kenji responded with the same faux-surprise he had used with the server. 'Me neither!' His brow furrowed as if he had realized something. He pointed at the girl. 'You probably go to Taiyoutono, right? This place being so close to the dorms and all. That's where I go too!'

He gave a contented sigh, shaking his head in disbelief. 'You know, I gotta say... this feels like fate, us meeting in this diner. You think it's fate? I think it's fate.'

Kenji had been speaking with a somewhat exaggerated tone since he sat down. While someone might mistake it for the voice of an earnest person, paired with that last line might clue anyone paying attention in that he was being disingenuous.

Kaoru had Kenji read from the start. She knew this kind of person - she'd dealt with his kind before. He was either looking for a cheap fuck or something else more deprived, and Kaoru wasn't going to afford him either.

She ignored the lame comments about fate and sighed. Kaoru started to speak, still not making eye contact. "I'd prefer it if we didn't have a conversation. Please don't talk to me." Her tone was even. This guy wouldn't get to her. She'd heard all the tricks in the book already.

Dammit, he knew that line was too much. He probably could have gotten a whole conversation out of her if he had held back a little. She was a real stoic type too, probably wasn't going to budge on that 'no talking' thing.

Kenji deflated. With a heavy sigh, he slumped in his seat, all fake joy leaving his features and his voice returning to his normal -- if bored -- tone. 'Oh come on, I was just fucking around. I got you free food, least you could do is entertain me for a couple minutes.'

He sighed again, his eyes trailing off to the rest of the cafe. His leg began to bounce. 'Been bored out of my skull all day. Ain't shit to do.'
