She closed the door behind her and locked it, and surveyed her new home. One big room, mostly populated by cardboard boxes, a futon on the floor in one corner. No stove, no fridge, no tables, no chairs, it was a hotbox, but it was her new home. She said nothing to anyone about moving, Hanako didn't say more than two words to her neighbors and she had no plans to. She just wanted some security. She didn't want anyone to make a big deal out of it, and she wasn't going to stay on a friend's couch or spare bedroom so there she was. That was impossible, so a place to rest her head and actually be by herself for a while was the next best thing. She planned to just do a little unpacking, then some studying then go to bed. The fact that her large, conspicuously pink car was parked in the lot outside meant she probably wasn't gonna be able to keep a low profile forever, so she might as well have made the most of it. Whatever plan she had of avoiding being tracked with a disguise was discarded like so many bad wigs, she had dark hair growing out with the pale roots clearly visible as she worked though finding a place for all her things. |

Alan I LIKE our current place. Yeah well my wallet doesn't. I can't balance work, school, social AND ruins when 70% of my time is taken up by work. Just marry into riches like I told you. Alan chuckled as he walked along. For the first time in a long while he looked and felt rested. Things were looking up at this rate. He stopped for a moment and inspected the hallway he was walking down. He had a small notebook out with several prices and locations written on them. Naturally he wasn't making this decision lightly. He did that last time and got absolutely screwed on the price. If he was staying here for an extended period of time, he'd need to actually like it. Maybe we can convince one of these poor schmucks to be our roommate? I hear these apartments are tiny. Hmm...Maybe I'll put a flier up. With two or three people the rent should be damn near the same. Well, unless his landlord was an ass about it. Still, he wanted to cover all his bases. Next came the interview. He didn't want to be fed lines by someone selling the rooms, again that's how he got screwed price wise in the first place. It would be better to hear from someone directly about what they thought of the place, if their neighbors were shitty and if the price was worth the place itself. He made sure to actually look like a functioning human before coming here. He'd been to a lot of complexes today and needed to make sure people didn't think he was homeless or something. He'd dressed up decently nice today. A gray collared button up with dark pants and best best pair of shoes. His hair, he'd been forced to put back into a low ponytail like usual, though, today, whisp had him let down some of hair to frame his face. While it didn't help the whole androgynous thing, it certainly looked good. "Alright, here we go." He took a deep breath. He still wasn't amazing with people, but he was getting there at least. He raised his hand to the door of an apartment nearby (an apartment that TOTALLY wasn't Hanako's or anything. Coincidences like that don't just happen right?) and knocked lightly three times. |

Three knocks at the door. Why did they sound so loud? She was perfectly aware that it was just a normal, day to day thing, but in her mind it might as well have been an earnest attempt to kick down the door. Reluctantly, she walked up to it, checking to make sure something to defend herself was close at hand in case she needed it. she unlocked hte doors, but kept the security chain on as she opened the door a crack to see who wanted her. "Yes…?" Only a narrow part of her face could be seen though the partially opened door. She recognized who it was and gasped. The door shut as quickly as it had opened, but there was more sounds of metal sliding against metal. The door opened again, this time fully. She was face to face with Alan Casey. A boy that had meant quite a few things to her in the relatively short time she'd known him. She couldn't help herself but stare into his eyes and smiled. "…Alan, please come in. I'm sorry, I wasn't expecting guests." Ever. Other than her and the boxes, the place was mostly empty, in no condition for entertaining. |

yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!! Alan was more than surprised when none other than Hanako Ito opened the door. The look of shock quickly gave way to elation at seeing his friend. It hadn't been a super long time, but he certainly hadn't expected to see her here. Still, if he had known she was here, he would've at least called. He was certainly not the type to drop by unannounced. "Thank you." He nodded as he stepped in. He pocketed his notebook as he gave the place a long look. Yeah, it was pretty damned tiny. Plus it seemed like she was in the process of moving in. Aw hell if he would've known that he would've helped. Or at least gotten her a housewarming gift. Shoulda coulda woulda, be more mindful in the future Alan. "Apologies for the intrusion Hanako-chan. Truth be told I had no idea you moved." Had something happened between her and Machi? No, he shouldn't just assume things. Living closer to campus might be the reason. College can be rough, the less time wasted in transit, the better. As much fun as Sherlock Holmesing this shit together would be, you could just ask her. Also tell her I say hi. "Oh uh, Whisp says hi." DON'T MAKE IT SOUND LIKE AN AFTERTHOUGHT. He couldn't help but feel concerned all the same. For now he'd bite his tongue. At least until he had some context here. |

She closed the door behind him. She was always especially careful about those sorts of things, she locked the door. "Yeah, I actually didn't announce that I moved, and I know you're pretty busy since you came back so…" She looked around for a suitable place to stand in for a seat and gave him a small smile. The difference in name was subtle, and Hanako didn't realize that he'd said anything different at all. "I really missed you you know? I'm glad you're back." |

"I see..." Alan couldn't help but frown. He'd made Hanako think he was too busy to even tell him about this. That maybe his own life was more important that what was happening in hers. That...wasn't a good feeling. He understood though, at the time it really did feel like his problems trumped everyone else's. That wouldn't happen again. "I'll admit, things were pretty bad. I didn't have a ton of time free...But I'm working to fix that." He tapped the notebook in his pocket as he spoke. "That whole hermit thing won't happen again." As she spoke again, Alan couldn't help but feel that something was wrong. He knew they hadn't known each other for a super long time, but he was certainly close enough to her to know when there was an issue. It was a gut feeling and it wasn't really going away. It something he would have to bring up by the end of his visit. Despite this, he gave her a smile of his own. "I missed you too, and I'm certainly gl-" Suddenly, Alan's vision shifted violently. If Hanako was looking closely, she would've seen his right eye suddenly dilate. Alan put a hand to his face and shook his head lightly as a wave of nausea crashed into him. He took a deep breath and waited a few moments for the feeling to subside. When he looked up again, things were...different. While the room and the furnishings were all the same, Hanako was not. Wrapped around her body and shivering violently was a gray cloud. Every so often, it rolled off in a morose wave that made his stomach twist before latching back onto her. It was in a constant flux of intensity and despair and it certainly scared the hell out of Alan. Holy shit. Alan had already gone through the sensation before. Ever since his Awakening, he'd been able to see auras like this. It seemed to switch on and off at first in long intervals. He never had any real control. This past week though, it had been "activating" more and more often. This was definitely the worst time for it too. "Glad to be back..." He finally finished his thought and lowered his hand. His eyes studied the aura for a few seconds more before he looked back at Hanako. Sorry about all that. I'm getting used to a new power that kind of just...comes on when it feels like." He lowered his voice to a whisper as he spoke...Just in case. "It's a lot of information and it can get pretty overwhelming." A look of concern crossed Alan's face. He didn't know how to approach this, but what he was seeing...This was really bad and it needed to be addressed. "After what I just saw though...I have to ask." He frowned and took a step closer. "Are you okay?" |

The sudden delay and odd reaction from Alan had taken just long enough for her to get worried. Then the question came. She wasn't prepared for that. She just reacted how she supposed that anyone would have when asked that out of the blue. She put on a smile, it was more than a little flat, as it didn't reach eyes. "Yeah, I'm fine, why do you ask?" Nothing could have been further from the truth. She spent most of her time completely on edge, and then in a totally morose state when she was too emotionally exhausted to be constantly put on the defensive. |

Aw man she's lying. Dude for real whatever did this needs to be DESTROYED. Even if Alan couldn't see people's auras, he wasn't an idiot. There was something clearly wrong, and Hanako's attempt to cover it up just made him more worried. His mind raced over several answers as to just what happened, but he came up empty. All the theories didn't matter if he didn't have any context. The aura alone freaked him the hell out. "Hanako if you don't want to talk about it, I get it, but you don't have to lie either." He understood at least if she wanted to keep things to herself, this was the first time they'd seen each other in awhile after all..."As for why I'm asking..." He hesitated again and leaned in, lowering his voice as he spoke. "Like I said, I got this weird power since dealing with my shadow." As he spoke, he lifted his hand and pointed at his eye. "It comes and goes when it wants really, but it lets me see...Well basically it lets me know how people are doing. In a vague sense, I can tell if people are happy, sad, angry, frustrated et cetera et cetera." It was a strange power to gain for sure, but persona shit had always been weird. "It uh, activated again just now and Hanako...Well that's why I'm asking." After speaking, Alan leaned back and sighed. "Even without it, I could tell something was up the moment I came through the door. You're important to me, Hanako. It'd be stupid of me to NOT notice." |

"Oh…I see." She brushed some hair behind her ear and looked away. "I'm sorry for that. I know I shouldn't have but it's too hard to explain, and we just saw each other again. Since the um…with the eye." She looked him in the eyes, her face pensive, and her arms folded. "Who wants to hear 'I'm coming apart at the seams?' the first time they see someone again? They should be welcomed with a smile at least, even if it has to be forced." That sounded so ridiculous. She closed her eyes and sighed. She might as well have told him the truth if it was like that. "I don't feel I belong. Not any more. Nervous and I don't feel safe around people anymore. I've gotten to be pretty pathetic." |

Alan's expression softened a bit as Hanako spoke. Despite her current state, it was still the same old Hanako. "I understand that much." There was no real 'but' attached to that sentence. He'd tried the same shit before. It didn't work either, but at least he understood where she was coming from here. Yeah but you're SUPPOSED to be mopey and shit. Hanako was always a BRIGHT ray of sunshine! That's why she's the fucking best! Fix this Alan! FIX THIS! Alan fell into silence for a while once Hanako finally told him just what was wrong. She doesn't belong? She's not safe? Holy shit this was much worse than he'd first thought. He shifted, but kept his eyes on her. He felt like if he looked away, that terrible aura he was seeing would just...swallow Hanako up. "That's not true. You were never pathetic." He couldn't argue feelings away, but Hanako saying she was pathetic..."What happened Hanako? Please, tell me everything." He took a step closer as he spoke, his own stomach twisting once more as more dark waves rolled off of Hananko. He knew these auras weren't physical, but when he was close they sure felt like it. "I'm here for you okay?" |
