"Ah, I see." He spoke as though he'd just clearly grasped the situation. With both familiarity and sympathy for Momo's plight. It was a difficult position to be in, no doubt. He assumed a familiar posture when talking, out of force of habit, he sat up with one leg folded over the other and his hands resting over his knees. Fingers crossing each other and thumbs as well. "Makoto-san, tell me more about this…friend? Were they particularly close with your brother?" The way she said that (or more accurately, hesitated to) spoke a lot too.The image was getting clearer all the time. "Do pardon me if this is too forward, but was this friend in some kind of trouble? Would your brother have blamed himself?" It could have been anything from a simple accident to the absolute worst-case scenario of falling in with the wrong crowd. It was up to her to specify if she so elected to do so. Or to not, if she chose otherwise. Good intentions and experience dealing with sometimes moody and sullen teenagers wouldn't have automatically meant she was going to spill all her guts to him, wheelhouse or no. And that was rightly how it should have been. Privacy was nice like that. |

Momo hesitated. She understood the implication here - he was asking if Ryuunosuke and Samurakami had been in a gang. That wasn't true, -at least, as far as Momo understood- but the reality wasn't much easier to tell him. "I... I don't know for certain," Momo admitted. "I've only been in town for about two months. Her death was back in December, apparently. It was apparently a mountaineering accident - at least, that's what it said in the news." She frowned, folding her hands in her lap. "My little brother won't tell me much, either. What I do know for sure is that they were close - very close- and... I think he does blame himself." She shook her head. "I don't understand how, though..." |

"You sound as though you have reason to think otherwise?" It wasn't the first time he'd encountered that line of thinking, as though what the official story was was nothing but a falsehood to cover up what had really happened. His own ex-wife was someone who strongly followed that school of thought, especially in regards to the more outlandish local happenings. He always dismissed it as people inventing someone or something to blame for the happenings in a chaotic and sometimes seemingly hostile world. But while that was true in general. But Momo's account didn't suggest that it was just knee jerk distrust of the media. She had real reason to believe the official account. He had to keep that in mind. He scratched the side of his nose and responded. "Well, if your brother blames himself not for what he did, but instead what he didn't do, that's a bit more complicated. Guilt over what he felt he should have done that might have left his friend still alive is insidious like that." And to make matters worse, it sounded like the worst case scenario for it. "I don't know what I can tell you that might fix this quickly. I'd say, he needs to be able to open up to someone about this. If he can't admit it to you, you must encourage him to speak with his other friends about it. Obviously this is not something he can be allowed to carry around forever." And that sounded exactly like what he was going to do if he was left to his own devices. An ugly situation, it truly was. |

Momo didn't respond to Hideyoshi's question about her beliefs regarding the park incident. She just averted her eyes briefly, waiting for him to say something else. When he did, it was... certainly truthful, but it wasn't something Momo wanted to hear. She'd tried - god, she had tried to get him to talk, but her attempts had just ended in disaster. She didn't know how much he was telling his friends, but the idea that he couldn't trust her, his older sister, with his inner thoughts stung a lot more than Momo would admit. "... I understand," Momo said slowly, reluctantly. "He's never been one to talk much about his own feelings. I keep in contact with a few of his friends, but I don't know if he's telling them much, either. Still, I..." She gripped the edge of the bench tightly. "I guess this is all I can do." Momo bowed her head again. "I'm sorry to trouble you with this. I know it's... a lot." |

He recived he thanks with a kindly smile and a shake of his head. "It hasn't been trouble at all, Makoto-san! I'm just glad to be able to help in some way." It only made sense that he wasn't fully disclosing it all from his point of view. There was something that everyone was reluctant to talk about with someone else, and it wasn't a matter of closeness or not. It was just how things were when someone carried something they thought was so important ,and that they had to struggle with on their own. It wasn't correct in his opinion, but it was no surprise at how people had come to that conclusion. "You and his friends are no doubt on the same page: I imagine that you're both deeply concerned about him and want to help him as much as you are able. He's going to need the support of all of you, so working together only makes sense!" He could paint a pretty picture of it, and that positivity might help them start, but it was up to them to finish it. "It may be presumptions of me to say to someone I've just met but…you must never give up. As long as you are able, try to reach him. If not on your own, then employ his friends in this, you'll be able to help him eventually. Even if it might be a long road." That was a bit heavy for a random mall bench conversation, wasn't it? He never even thought to question such a thing until he'd already spoken. |

Makoto gripped the bench more tightly, knuckles whitening. He was right. She couldn't give up. There had to be something more that she could do for him beyond just waiting and listening. She bowed her head again. "Thank you again. This... helped a lot. There aren't a lot of people I can talk to about this." She hadn't contacted her parents yet, because she really had no idea how to approach that conversation. Momo stood up, grabbing a few of her bags. "I really shouldn't take up more of your time, and I should get going anyway..." |

Ah, she was going. Perhaps he should have taken his leave, as well. He gathered up his shoebox and sat up. "Well, in that case, I'll be off too. Good luck, and godspeed Ms. Makoto!" He didn't have so much to deal with at once as Momo did. He stretched his legs out and started walking. What was he going to do before she showed up? Something to eat, right? He was going to get something to eat. Oh well, he was heading towards the exit and away from any restaurants. It was just fine if he just went home and made something with what he had left, right? |
