He left behind the back-entrance to the Adyton and the alleys surrounding it, lurching unto the street with wavering steps. The effort of maintaining motion pained him, each gesture reminded him of an ache that'd long since ingrained itself within him, and had gone ignored for far too long. (Did I run back here from the ruins?), he said half-joking, hoping to assuage in him the creeping dread of his paranoid delusions; it was only half-working, while his conscious mind focused singly on the task of getting home, the other half continued to go through those brief flashes of memory. Again and again it replayed them, unsure of the causal links that connected these events together, coming up empty each time. Alack with memory -heck- reason for his being here, he could only default to those instincts which he could hold true, and tug at them as they lead him down familiar paths. And for all this nonsense going on in his mind, it was the silence that perturbed him most; the usual gaggle of voices had chosen to make themselves scant this night, no congress of chiding voices bemoaned his actions... then again, wasn't this what he'd always wanted? Pondering whether it was silence he'd wished for, or concordance to that monkey's paw, he pushed forward; scrolling the world around him in a relativistic manner, he sought to put behind him the whole of the outside world. (If I can get to my room..., he reminded himself once more, conjuring an idealized version of it before his eyes, the unchanging image in his mind reassuring him that within its walls he'd find the stability he sought. So engrossed he was in his thoughts, that he paid no special mind to the person standing in the street. Just another bystander, and -anyway- this place wasn't the kind of neighborhood where you'd get mugged, or so he thought... pushing past himself, he seemed to finally regain his gait. His trembling had all-but stopped, and he looked less like a scared animal and more like an overly cautious highschooler... which wasn't so far removed from the truth.[/color] Edited by Zesseract, Jan 16 2018, 08:18 PM.

Well this was how it was going to be, was it? The trap encircling ever closer to their friend of a target. The final steps to help one of their own that was suffering from the powers that they used to fight the monsters in the Ruins. Chinedu was looking forward to this whole situation being resolved soon so he could begin to understand what had caused it all in the first place. I'll have to wait until we give everyone time to recover from this ordeal first. I know that we'll have to all take time to deal with ourselves... While Chinedu made his move towards the alleyway, he felt his phone go off once more. A quick read of the messages outlined the next part of their plan; Atsuko taking the lead to keep 'Astaroth' at bay for the remainder of their plan. That thought alone was enough to crease his brow further. She's going alone... Even if all they do is talk it doesn't mean that she wouldn't be out of danger at all. Chinedu's decision was basically made for him at this point.
He sent the message, then he paused for a moment. With a few more keystrokes he added:

Wei kept his distance. He wondered if anyone was going to make their move. Or would they perpetually end up following him as he slowly made his way home? He knew that they wanted to wait until they were a bit further away from the more obvious areas, but perhaps something should happen sooner or later? He could totally break out some wire and strangle someone, couldn't he? No. No, that wasn't necessary. No need to do that right now. They were going to start talking amongst themselves. Wei would remain in the shadows until the proper moment. |

Ugly Crying
|
Atsuko put her phone back in her pocket. This was really happening. She was going to face a kid with a possession problem and there was a high chance of her being seriously injured or killed. She wondered why she even agreed to do this in the first place, but she had no time to think about it as she saw Ryou make his way towards her. He didn't seem to pay much attention to her or care that she was even there in the first place. Still, the sight of him made her nervous. She took a deep breath and put on a cheerful grin. "Ryou Arakawa? Is that you?" She asked and made her way towards him. "It's me, Atsuko Hiroyuki, we're in the same homeroom!" |

It begins, was all Ren could think as he saw Nel's response. What begins? Aesop chimed, sounding as if he was holding back further words. Saving Arakawa. Proving Astaroth wrong. You know, being able to sleep in peace... oh, and I guess having nobody pay attention to me would be good too. Until I can defend myself, at least!... or something. A long, labored groan sounded from Aesop. Depending on how you view it, this actually began the night I awakened- nay, the night Astaroth awakened- or when you saw through what was truly happening. Ren refused to respond further as he went through Bedlam. Of people who'd be willing to provide instruction, Saya Tsurugi seemed the most obvious. That right there also made taking classes from her dojo possibly a bad idea, unless it was done with other Users. Briefly, he wondered if there was anyone else who found themselves Awakened and paradoxically more vulnerable than before, just like him. Naturally, it wasn't brief, and as Ren searched on his phone, he wasn't watching the alley. |

The voice came as something of a shock to him, jerking him away from the world of his thoughts and placing him back in the real; it was an awkward shunt to be sure, and it showed as the sudden noise caused him to jerk up in surprise. Seizing his arms more tightly, he slowly spun himself to face the source of this commotion, barley able to intuit his direction from the sound alone. Nervously, he looked up at the person addressing him, trying very hard to drop his guarded stance but failing as his body only took stronger purchase of him. "I-i'm- sorry... what?" he managed to stammer out, as the girl's outline shifted in and out of focus; the effect made his stomach tighten into a knot. Unable to hold his gaze, he opted to stare at the ground near this person. It didn't seem to shake as much, and helped keep him grounded -for a time-. Playing back what'd been recently be said to him, he seemed to stand there -in silence- for what seemed like ages, before paying lip service to this 'recognition' of his classmate. "Ah-yes- I think I remember now... S-sorry- I'm just not feeling my best right now." failing to put himself in a more relaxed disposition, he tried to solder through the conversation, (She's little more than one of my obstacles now, just politely obstructing my way...) he had to remind himself of this, feeling some of that familiar disgust bubbling up into his conscious mind. "That is to say... -yes- I'm he." he finally answered, in his own awkward fashion. It was not ideal, but definitely a start towards something resembling normalcy, he only hoped this wouldn't go overlong, as even this exchange was taxing for him. He'd even answered the questions out of order, what could she have wanted to do with him at this time of night though? He entertained almost no relationships from his class, not even casual acquaintances.... so it was highly unusual that someone would approach him out of the blue. She could -of course- have been doing this out of courtesy, though why she thought he'd return this courtesy to her was baffling. He hadn't presented himself in any degree of approachability... maybe this was homework related? He cycled through all possible situations being made manifest here, as he waited for her reply... he certainly wasn't going to give her anything -that was for sure-. "How may I help you?" and while his words were polite, his tone certainly wasn't... denoting a clear dislike at being approached, his tone was curt and his manner guarded. As far as he was concerned, she was just in the way. |

If there ever were a time when Chinedu's sentai shows would take their commercial break right before the dramatic moment, this would have been it. All of them tense as Atsuko engages their possessed teammate in an alley by herself; it couldn't have gotten more dramatic than that. Except there was no flashy outfitted-teens to rescue them if this whole situation went wrong now. Well, okay. If he wanted to Chinedu could pull out one of his uniforms from back home but now would be neither the time nor place for such a thing! It wasn't like they could just their powers so openly anyway. Frustratingly, all he could do was wait while Atusko tried to lull their target into a sense of security for the plan to go down. He'd be lying if he said that every part of him wasn't tense at this time. |

Wei remained in place while the conversation was ongoing -- he wasn't exposed, and movement would attract attention. He needed to be still and patient. Lightning struck once, and if this turned to violence, he intended to emulate the element Jin Ke had given him: one single, decisive strike and then the conflict ended. Obviously, the ideal would be to do this without violence, but when did that happen? When did that ever happen? Best to be prepared. Despite his training he tensed up. Ready to go, ready to leap into action. But then he pulled himself back from the brink of motion. The animal instincts in his head wanting to force the issue. His higher thought stopped him. Now? No. Now? No. Through it all, the lurking presence in his mind, never one to force an issue, watched Wei's internal struggle. Instinct and thought pushing back and forth against one another like a heartbeat. |

Ugly Crying
|
Atsuko resisted the urge to run away. Everything Ryou was doing felt and look awkward and unnatural. Though, she knew he wasn't exactly himself when she agreed to do this. Still, she felt scared, he could attack her at any second after all. "Well, I hope you're not getting sick, Arakawa-kun!" She replied. Hm? Oh, I was just taking a stroll and I saw you so I decided to say hi! I know we don't know each other, besides being classmates, but you seem pretty nice." She said. "Not a lot of people are around at this time, were you going for a walk too, or did you get off of work or something?" Atsuko continued to smile and did her best to appear relaxed. All she had to do was keep him distracted while the rest moved in. She just hoped that would be soon. |

The awkward teen retreated more into himself as his classmate engaged him; if he'd been hugging himself with his arms before, he'd now put on a straight-jacket of his own making, as a vice like grip tensed around his arms. Throughout Atsuko's words, he didn't relax for a second and -in fact- seemed to wind himself more tightly; he looked less his usual unpleasant self, and more like this snake-thing wearing his skin like a suit, and seemed to default to its baser instincts. To Atsuko, he must have seemed like an asp, just poised to strike... only he hadn't any fangs nor poison... at the least, not any he could bring to muster right now. But talk she did, and keep his attention engaged -for a while anyway-, as he at least tried to look for an out of this conversation. Throughout her piece, he couldn't feel as though he was feeling watched, though he was unsure if this came from his own instincts, or was merely symptomatic of his own panic to try and piece together how he'd gotten here today. There was a nice side-effect to Atsuko attempting to engage him though, and that was that her voice kept his thoughts from racing; not entirely an unpleasant thing, as she more or less commanded his attention and kept him from thinking too hard about the unreality of his situation. He seemed to sigh half into her speech, as he -accepted- his surrender to take part in this conversation, this served to soften his tone -some- though not to any comprehensible degree of familiarity toward Atsuko. "It's nothing for you to worry about." he said in response to her well-wishing for his health, before finally deigning to meet her gaze. His taciturn manner expressed in his wistful eyes, as they begrudgingly held his gaze to hers, his own want of going home only manifested for fractions of each second, as he listened to her go on. "It's a bit late to be taking that kind of walk..." he finally replied, starting into something that resembled a conversation, though each word seemed to pain him to enunciate ,"-I mean- for the both of us; I just got off work, and walking means there's a bit more money in my pocket, I usually cut through Ruwashi to get home... I don't know why you'd be out so late, though." This entire arrangement seemed a little too convenient, but his conscious mind assured him that he was -in fact- still reeling from his freak-out from earlier... it did nothing to assuage him though. |
