Chiharu was very nervous. Well, she was always nervous. This wasn't new. It's just that she had a very new reason to be nervous now. Her entire life had just been flipped upside down. She had summoned a ghost lady out of her head, and she had used them to fight shadow bear monsters. And she wasn't even the only one who could do this, either. There were enough that a whole website was made just for them. How could she not be nervous? Oh, and there was this weird girl who was leading her to her house and she may or may not be crazy. That was a thing, too. It's not like Chiharu had anyone to blame but herself for this. She was the one who agreed to go with her in the first place. Sure, it was mostly because she offered free food, and Chiharu was (and still is) pretty hungry, but she did offer to answer any questions she had about the whole "waking up in an abandoned laboratory and summoning a ghost lady from your head to fight shadow monsters" thing too. That still didn't change the fact that she was walking with someone who she wasn't wholly convinced wasn't a serial killer. Chiharu checked the time on her phone. They had been walking for a little while now. She probably could have made it back to the dorms on her own if she had rushed her way there. "Are...erm, a-are we almost t-there yet?" This was first sentence of substance that Chiharu had said since they had left the ruins, since she really wasn't in the mood for small talk now, or ever, really. She was really hoping they would be there soon. If this girl was going to chop her up into little pieces, she may as well get it over with as soon as possible. |

Masako was trying her best to act like a serial killer. She didn't really know how a serial killer would act, other than the obvious choppy parts, so she was just walking with a funny gait. She would have been doing this anyway, though, since her leg kind of hurt, but Masako was hoping it was in a particularly axe-murderer-like way so that Chiharu would get freaked out. Girl was funny. Thankfully for Chiharu, Masako deigned to answer her question like a normal person. "Oh, yeah, it's just up ahead. Over there." She pointed at a fancy-looking house with a gate, which she pushed through like it wasn't even there. She led Chiharu up the front yard and up to the entrance. She pulled out a set of keys and let herself inside, holding the door open for Chiharu. "Here." The entrance opened to reveal a spacious living area, with a set of couches, a modern-looking glass table, and a TV at the end of the room. There was also a set of stairs to the right, along with the entrance to what looked like a kitchen to the left. "Kisatoooo?" Masako called up the stairs. When no answer came, she shrugged her shoulders. "Maybe she's napping. Or it's her off day. I forget." She turned back to Chiharu. "Anyway, uh, go ahead and sit on the couch. You must be tired. I'll go get my axe. I mean, the food. Yeah." |

When they made it to the girl's house, Chiharu's eyes widened. She lived here? Was this girl rich, or something? Or maybe she really was a serial killer, and she killed the owners and then decided to start living in their house. Chiharu really hoped it was just the former. As Chiharu followed her into the house, she was just as shocked at the inside as she was the outside. And apparently she had a maid too?! Who was this girl? Cautiously, Chiharu went to take a seat on one of the couches, muttering "Haha, yeah, f-funny. Axe j-joke. G-Good stuff." along the way. She wasn't really going to get an axe, right? That was just a joke...right? |

Masako very much considered going over to the supply closet to see if she had an axe handy to scare Chiharu with. She did, of course - there just wasn't an axe in the closet. Masako sighed, disappointed. Fine. The joke would have to end here. Food, though - food, she had to figure out. She brought a hand up to her chin and furrowed her brows thoughtfully. "Hrmm." Eventually, she walked out holding a loaf of bread, slapping it on the table in front of Chiharu. "I found food." She sat down directly next to Chiharu, plopping right into the sofa. "So! Head monsters! How about that, huh?" |

Chiharu was surprised she didn't bring an axe with her. She was shocked by what she did bring, though. Is this...bread? Is...is this what she eats? What the hell? She stared at the loaf for a few moments, before shrugging, and taking a piece of bread. Oh, right. Yeah. The head monsters. Those were important...probably. Chiharu nibbled at her bread, before looking over to the girl. "Uh. Y-Yeah. Head monsters. What...what was all of that? I've got, like, some o-of it down, I think. There's some s-sort of lab hidden in the mountains, with weird shadow bear monsters, a-and you fight them with some...weird ghost m-monsters that can talk in your h-head. But...what the hell? What even happened?" |

Masako ignored the bread because sustenance was for the weak. She clapped her hands together at Chiharu's confused explanation and question, a wide grin appearing on her face. "Okay! So, a lot of things happened and they don't make any sense! Let me explain." She turned in her seat to face Chiharu and began making wild gesticulations with her hands as she spoke, as though that would help to communicate anything. "So, essentially, you woke up in the ruins -I think that's what they're called, they probably have a different name but I'm not sure- and you were -oh, also they're underneath Nagashima, except also not, because they were up in the mountains but space is weird- brought there by this bug, which we call Philemon for some reason, because I think some frog guy was some kind of psychologyphile, which I'm not even sure is a word; but anyway, after you got bagged up by the butterfly you woke up in the ruins, and I think it just brings you anywhere -I just woke up in a random room, I don't even remember it to be honest- and then drops you off and expects you to fend for yourself, which is generally pretty messed up, although you can't expect a golden butterfly to be nice, although this is beyond the point, which is that it left you there and then after that you got a persona thing - which, by the way, I'm not sure if you needed a musical instrument for, although you clearly didn't have one, which is just another point against Kaburagi's stupid theory that you need to be playing music to summon your persona, which really doesn't make any sense anyway but also you didn't have one so that's not related - you ended up summoning your head monster thing, which is your persona: it's like a digimon, but in your head - actually, I don't even know if you watched digimon, so I'm not sure this reference is getting through, so let me go with a different metaphor: it's like a part of your brain that can also turn into a monster and fight other monsters, which we called shadows, which were those bear things we fought earlier, and basically there's a lot of us with those digimon things on that website which we call Bedlam, which, as far as I can tell, is mostly used for shitposting and complaining about other persona users; anyway, there's a lot of us and we explore the ruins sometimes for vague reasons that don't make any sense, although I go back because it's kind of fun and there's lots of things to explore; do you have any questions?" |

Chiharu was half expecting an info dump like this. She listened to the girl ramble on about frog people, musical instruments, and digimon, quietly nibbling on her bread as she did so. Most of this was getting through to her. Some of it didn't really make sense; she didn't really understand why there was a butterfly, or why a frog guy named it Philemon, or who Kaburagi was, but she wasn't expecting everything about this girl's story to make sense. Still, something about this was weighing on Chiharu's mind. The thought of it worried her immensely. After finishing another bite, she put the loaf of bread now, facing the girl with an obviously unnerved and worried expression on her face. "Uh, j-just one, I t-think. How...how o-often do people get...l-led down there? L-Like...like me." |

Masako paused. "I..." She brought a hand up to her face, cupping her chin thoughtfully. "Uh." Her gaze was pointed down at the table, but in her mind, Masako was far, far away, doing an inordinate number of irrelevant calculations to determine the answer to Chiharu's question. Eventually, she looked back up and said, "I have no idea! We should figure this out!" She reached forward and clapped her hands over Chiharu's cheeks again, squishing them. "You're so smart, squishy-cheeks! We should try and monitor that! Maybe we'll figure out something if we know how frequently it happens! Like if it only happens on days that start with T, or if it only happens on odd hours???" Edited by Supnitle, Sep 30 2017, 12:34 AM.

Chiharu didn't like the uncertainty. How many people had been led down there? How many people had died, through no fault of their own? These were the thoughts that were running through her - and this girl was pinching her cheeks again. Why. Chiharu cheeks were red hot. The first time was weird enough. And now she was doing it again. And she was calling her squishy cheeks. This was the most embarrassing moment of her life and she wanted to die. "Y-You're squishing my c-cheeks." Chiharu completely ignored everything else this girl was saying until she had let go of her cheeks. |

"I am," Masako agreed, not letting go of Chiharu's cheeks at all. "I noticed earlier, but they are unusually squishy. This is another hypothesis we can develop - maybe awakening to a Persona makes one's cheeks more squishable? Tell me, is your face usually this soft? I checked for myself, and I didn't notice a discernible difference, but I'm all skin and bones anyway." Masako moved from just rubbing her palms on Chiharu's face to pinching her cheeks, moving them around and about to check their elasticity. "I'll need to ask Souta about this too - and Kaburagi. Although Kaburagi's not a reliable source of information..." She seemed to have forgotten about answering any of Chiharu's questions entirely. |
