Good Afternoon.

⑥ At 14:00 on 2014-XX-05, Yuki Harada will be killed by the Reaper.
Mai paced back and forth in her room, wringing her hands in distress. She hadn't known what to think of the enigmatic Bedlam post when it had first appeared, but further research and other comments on the thread indicated that the predictions made by 'JesteringPalette' were usually accurate. Yuki was not fated to die, but there was a good chance that he would assuming nothing changed. Was he aware of the prediction? Mai had no way to tell whether or not he was a persona user, and it didn't seem like he'd posted in the thread himself. This certainly wasn't something she could just outright ask - it was far too risky if he wasn't a persona user. Breaking the masquerade to anyone nearby risked it leaking out to her father, and that would be a catastrophe.

It would also be a catastrophe if Yuki died, however, meaning that Mai had to do something. She stopped in place, taking a deep breath in an attempt to clear her mind. All she had to do was ask him if he wanted to go out on the listed date. It would stick out as an odd request, and it wasn't something she looked forward to asking. The date in question was still a few weeks away: just far enough in the distance to be a conspicuous choice. If Yuki was already a persona user, he'd likely catch on that she'd seen the prediction. If he wasn't, then all she had to do was convince him to stay with her for the day, and hopefully, he wouldn't be killed.

... Even then, however, the nature of the prediction worried her. It was possible that, even if he was with her, that he'd end up seeing the butterfly and awakening. Once that happened, if they ran into the Reaper, Mai definitely would not be able to get the two of them out on her own. She'd have to find allies. Maybe some of the other persona users on Bedlam would be willing to help?

Before that all even came into play, she had to send the message first. Mai lifted her phone from her desk, opening it up and heading to the messenger app. Deciding it was polite to send him a message first, she sent Yuki the following,
Text Message

From: Takagawa Mai
To: Yuki Harada

Hello, Harada-san. Do you have time for a quick phone call? I wanted to ask you something.

About five minutes after Mai had send the message. Her phone would start ringing right away. While she was agonizing whether or not to get in touch with him, he evidently didn't have too much going on.The moment she picked up, she was met with a simple response.

”What.” It didn't even have the inquisitive inflection to it, so it wasn't quite accurate to even label it as a 'question' in that sense. But as she requested, he had responded.

On the other end of the phone conversation, in another part of town, Yuki was sincerely curious what had prompted it. Even if the timing had somehow suggested that it might have been related to that prediction.

Oh, gosh, he called her. That was unexpected. Mai gave the phone an apprehensive look before answering the call, bringing the speaker up to her ear. "Hello - ?" Yuki's voice cut her off as he immediately responded, causing Mai to wince. That... was that a bad response? Mai knew her step-brother was a man of few words, so she really wasn't sure whether or not he was being short with her or just being himself.

"Sorry to bother you, Harada-san," she began. "I wanted to know if you had any plans on a day a few weeks from now. Specifically..." She paused for a moment to recall the exact date. "The XXth of this month." She waited to hear his reaction. If he had seen the post, her intentions would be obvious.

There was a pause. Perhaps a grunt, perhaps not. It was hard to tell exactly with things transferred over the line. But she did get an answer. ”This would be about the prediction on that day? Ifi t is, I'll be clear I have no plans to enter the ruins and leave it at that.” The tone that he used was terse, but no more so than his normal conversational voice. The matter at hand was taken care of, and that was that.

But, even if the matter was settled, it wouldn't do to be that closed off to family. Even if it was a technicality of marriage in Mai's case. ”That said, how are you and my sister doing? I haven't had the chance to speak to Asuka in person in some time.”

Mai's brain briefly short-circuited at Yuki's blunt response. Oh, she thought. Um. Well... I... um. Uh. At least getting it out of him had been easier than she had thought.

Her capacity for thought returned when Yuki asked how she and Asuka had been doing, spurred on by Mai's immediate need to respond. "Oh, well, we've been doing well. I... believe. Asuka-chan and I don't speak very often, but, um..." Mai frowned - she probably shouldn't have mentioned that, and there was also something she wanted to discuss a lot more than her relationship with her step-sister. "Harada-san, you saw the prediction as well? You're... a persona user then. I wasn't aware."

Mai hesitated, then asked, "If I may ask, is anyone else in the family aware of the ruins? That you know of, I mean."

”…Asuka-chan and I don't speak very often.”

”Is it because she doesn't like you?” He wasn't trying to bully his step-sister, or make light of her situation. But facts were facts and a blind man could have seen how little esteem Asuka had for Mai.

But they stepped back and expanded on the original reason she called. In his bedroom, Yuki silently nodded when she asked him if he were a Persona user. A moment later, when he realized she couldn't see him, he made it clear for her. ”Indeed.” He wasn't exactly comfortable with the idea of Mai haplessly wandering into a monster-filled labyrinth alone, but if anyone understood that the supernatural bullshit in the town spared no one any grief, it was him.

He moved right along and prepared to answer her next question. ”Beyond Asuka-chan? No others, that I know of.” He really hoped not Shiori. That would have gotten really uh…awkward. Then again, as he hadn't kicked down his bedroom door and forbade him to go back to the ruins or not, it was unlikely the flamboyant Yakuza that his cousin was had any involvement.

Mai sputtered like a broken engine and felt a blush creep up on her cheeks at Yuki's blunt response. "H-Harada-san, please, that's not..." Her voice trailed off, and Mai let the subject sit as Yuki moved back onto the more interesting of the conversations. He certainly wasn't wrong, but Mai's relationship with her step-sister wasn't something she particularly wanted to discuss.

It seemed, however, that Asuka would remain their focus when Yuki revealed that she was a persona user as well. Mai's eyes widened. "Asuka-chan is...?!" She'd had no idea. Mai really hadn't interacted with the other girl in some time - like Asuka herself had wanted. But to think she'd miss something this important...

"I didn't know..." Mai muttered to herself. She paused for a moment, uncertain of what to say. "My apologies, I just... I'm still reacting to all of this. I knew we were common, but to think you two happened to be persona users as well... how long have you been one, Harada-san?" She asked.

”Some time now. I suppose a few months?” The exact time eluded him. Days tended to bleed together for him before, and since he gained it, things haven't changed noticeably for him. There was a pause. He knew what was going to be said next. But it was no simple thing to bring up. He was terrible with words, and it was a bit of a struggle to articulate it just as he wanted. For Mai, that probably meant another awkward silence over the line as she waited. ”If you intend to return, I will go with you. It would be bothersome if you got in
Overwhelmed.”

Ah, one on one conversations with someone who wasn't a speaker were bothersome, come to think of it. They didn't just take the conversation and run with it and only require one or two words from his part. ”You and Asuka need to speak of this too, tell her I want to talk to you and her about Personas face to face.”

He himself just pointed out how poorly they got along, but that didn't matter, if that was the situation that they found themselves in, then there was nothing for it, after all.

Mai waited patiently for the silence to pass, assuming that Yuki was going to say something. Uncertainty was starting to creep in (Am I supposed to say something? Is he the one waiting for me?) when Yuki finally spoke, and Mai found herself breathing out an, "oh." She pursed her lips. On the one hand, it would certainly be reassuring to have Yuki by her side if she ever returned to the ruins, but that if was the big question here. "I, ah... I don't know if I really..."

And then, Yuki dropped the big one. Mai's eyes widened, and she wasn't able to stop herself from verbalizing her surprise in a, "huh?" She shook her head, briefly forgetting that Yuki couldn't actually see her. "I mean, that... makes sense. Of course. I'll speak with her shortly. Um... when should I tell her you want to talk?"

”As soon as possible.”

That seemed to cover all the major bases. Did it not? She had called with the concern for the prophecy in mind, and things had gone on a bit further than that. It seemed most viable to simply talk to both Mai and Asuka at once together, so he considered that yet another matter settled.

What else was there to talk about? They had gone out a few times, but he didn't quite know what to do in regards to Mai's somewhat flighty and easily flustered disposition.

”Have you anything else you wish to speak about?”
