Kiku set the top back with where she found it with just the tiniest bit of disappointment, before the other girl asked a question. Her favorite color? Did she even have one? Most of her wardrobe was a little drab - quiet colors, none of which would make her stand out in a crowd. Should she just base her answer off that?

"Uh, gray?" Yeah, sure, go with that.

As her new friend (What was her name? Kiku simply couldn't remember it no matter how much she thought) rummaged through the rack, Kiku quietly spoke up after a moment. "Um... Senpai?" Actually, was she even her senpai? Kiku couldn't place if she was still in high school. "I-I don't think I really got a chance to thank you for... you know, the other day."

”Hmm?” It took a moment for her to register what Kiku was talking about. Even if it was the only other context she'd met the younger girl in, it was miles away from her current mindset at the time. ”Oh, don't worry about it. I just like to help when I can. Just do the same when you find someone else in trouble.” Thinking back on it, Isamu definitely overdid it. That was actually a bit frightening to think about, even if he was currently okay.

She pulled back, pouted and pointed to Kiku with her index finger for a bit of lighthearted emphasis. ”But don't push yourself, alright? That's all I can ask for in return.” She went back to the rack, but she paused. ”You don't have to call me Senpai. I don't even think we went to the same school at the same time. Just Hanako, okay?” She was likewise oblivious that she saved the girl once more, from the minor faux pas of asking someone to repeat their name to her because she forgot it.

Not that she would have held it against her. That was a really stressful time. Details get lost. Either it wasn't as bad as it seemed after the adrenaline wore off and everyone got to go home safe and sound, or perhaps she was just getting jaded from being thrown in too much crazy stuff? It was probably a bit of both.

Anyways…Kiku liked gray? Did she just like to compliment her hair and eyes, or was she really just that conservative and muted a person? …no, that wasn't very nice to think about. She didn't even know her besides she was friends with that one Ryuunosuke guy and was probably trying a little too hard to impress her because she was grateful? ”What do you think about this?” She held up a plaid skirt from an adjacent rack with complimentary clothing to the tops they were with one hand, gray with a black stripe pattern. ”…and this?” The other hand had another blue top, it was near pastel blue button up, short sleeves. She presented Kiku with the clothes by suspending them against her so she had an idea of what they might look like on her.

They went with a pair of black suspenders with silver clasps and they were flashier than Kiku's current attire, but only by a marginal bit. ”Please be honest. And since you said 'senpai'? Does that mean you went to Taitpu when I did?” Oh, were they still sharing weird rumors about her there? Even after she graduated? A little embarrassing.

Kiku glanced down at the outfit as Hanako held it up against her. It was... hip. The pale blue looked nice, but she didn't own any other button-downs and wow, wasn't that skirt just a little too short? And suspenders? How did you wear those, again? Did they clip onto something?

"O-Oh, that looks... nice," she answered half-honestly, taking the clothes into her hands. Had she dropped her coffee at some point? Kiku looked over the clothes again before glancing back to Hanako. "Um, if you've graduated, then we didn't. I-I'm a first year." She blinked. "You went to Taiyoutono, then?" Kiku had just been guessing, but for once she had guessed right.

”Yeah!” She said in affirmative and smiled. ”Yeah! I graduated and now I'm in Rokujima! Well, for the moment, anyways.” There was a whole fad to call it 'Rokketo' for a while, and she caught herself before she referred to the place as that. She kind of just slid off the ambiguity in the last part of that.

”Are you sure? We can probably get ahold of a dressing room. Y'know? See how it looks on you in the flesh?” She was a bit hesitant, but yeah, it probably would have looked alright on Kiku. ” You like simple outfits?" She looked her over with an appraising glance to make sure she got the younger girl's body type about right.

Perhaps she should have thought of something for herself, too… She wasn't that picky, though. ”So, how do you like Taiyoutono so far? Making a lot of friends?” That was the kind of question you asked when you thought you already knew the answer. Kiku was a real sweetheart, so she didn't doubt she had some friends. But she was an awkward thing, too. Perhaps that hurt her somewhat?

"A dressing room might work." Kiku was a little apprehensive about actually wearing the thing, but if Hanako was taking the time out of her day to help, she may as well try to be appreciative. "I, uh, usually j-just wear whatever's in my closet. Which is... a little simple, I suppose. Yeah. I don't shop for clothes that often." Even with the proper-looking Taiyoutono uniform covering Kiku's figure, it was clear she was rather on the slim side. The outfit Hanako picked out would probably fit well enough.

There was a dressing room on the other side of the store, and Kiku glanced, hesitated, and started making her way towards it. "School is..." Miserable. "G-Good. I think I'm getting used to it now." An awkward smile. "Friends? Um... y-yeah, plenty." She scratched the back of her neck. "More than I had back home, at any rate."

For herself? Eh, cutoff jeans, a sleeveless button up red top. Not her favorite type, but she wasn't terribly invested in getting anything out of the place anyways. So long as it fit her was good enough for the moment.

She glanced over and gave Kiku her full attention when she mentioned that she had it better there than from where she'd moved from.”Oh? What was that like? If you don't mind my prying.” Ugh, you know what? Even if she asked that, and even if Kiku responded it was totally fine she probably did not want to share that and Hanako was overstepping her boundaries a bit. She raised her hand. ”Ah, you know what? You don't have to answer that. I'm sure you don't want to dwell on that sort of thing. Anyways, I'm glad you're making friends, Kiku-chan.”

She stepped aside and invited Kiku to pick out something more fitting of her own tastes before they could move onto the dressing rooms.

"Oh, n-no, it's okay." Frankly, Kiku wasn't terribly enthusiastic about answering Hanako's question and probably should have taken the out she had offered, but... she didn't want to make Hanako feel like she had been prying. Answering the question would probably help, right?

"Back home? Uh, th-there was... there was one girl I knew from school. We were in a club together a-and uh, well." She paused, scratching her head. "I-It didn't go too well," she added, seemingly embarrassed at the memory.

"But we talked a lot. W-We met after she protected m-me from some b-bullies, a-and... w-well, uh, we were close."

They stood outside the dressing rooms - Kiku remained holding the suspenders getup Hanako offered in the first place.

Kiku didn't really mean it that way. The fact that Hanako was taking her innocent description of her friendship like that meant she was just overly immersed in that sort of thing. It couldn't have been an entirely comfortable thing to bring up for Kiku, but she had up and asked her without thinking about it. She frowned slightly as she listened.

”What happened? If you don't mind my asking?” She probably did, but the question was out there. At least she was asking out of concern over curiosity. They were at the dressing rooms, and Hanako found two unoccupied ones adjacent to one another. She folded her arms and prepared to listen.

The more she thought about it though. Where was Kiku most comfortable? It sure wasn't that store, not the ruins, it sounded like she'd have a terrible time at school too based on numbers alone. She felt like an awkward, unhappy little thing, but she was drawing a blank on how best to alleviate that.

Maybe there wasn't a solution to that? Nothing she could just say that was gonna make it alright, as it was just her nature. So, what was the point of fretting about it? She was prepared to go in and try on the outfit she chose for herself, but of lingered until there was a good lul in her conversation with Kiku.

"There was, um." Kiku looked downward for a moment, as if deciding how to answer. It had been awhile since she had even thought about it, and it wasn't an exceptionally pleasant memory.

She looked back up towards Hanako, forcing herself to speak. "There was... an accident. A c-car accident." A pause, shifting the bundle of clothes she held. "Sh-She survived, but... she stopped coming to school afterwards. I haven't seen her ever since." Her tone held the slightest bit of pain to it.

She listened and nodded softly, atroubled frown dominating her face as she listened. The story was a simple one to tell but relating that was no doubt hard on Kiku. She put a hand on the younger girl's shoulder.

”I'm very sorry. For the both of you.” It was fairly obvious for her friend, but it sounded like Kiku was having a hard time dealing with that, and she up and reopened the wound without thinking.

But while the damage was already done, she had thought that they might as well have made the most of it. But she wanted to approach the question delicately. Gently, she broached the question. ”Well, if you wanted to…I don't doubt it would be hard, but you know it's not too late to drop her a line? It might help.”
