I'm the best! I'm the king of me! I'm gonna eat chips out of the garbage!

Manabu had found about what he'd expected to see when he got to the park: that is, a flat lot of nothing. The graffiti on the memorial had already been scrubbed away -- the quick work of the local government, no doubt, but that meant that he had to rely on photos and recountings by other people to really get any perspective on what had happened.

The memorial was visible from most parts of the park, and the main footpaths all converged upon it. It was the center of the park. A crowd gathering was a natural conclusion. The question was why they'd wanted a crowd. More than that, considering the scale of the event, the perpetrator had likely been lurking nearby, to gleefully watch their handiwork go into action. Defacing a memorial to the dead to call out the government and an "imaginary" threat... it was the kind of thing that drummed up emotions, and it was so brazen it would have to seem true. At least, it would to some people...

"Either they were harnessing people's emotional energy for a ritual... or it was a recruitment drive," Manabu said to himself. Well, metaphorically, he supposed it was all some kind of ritual. Destroying an idol to a perceived falsehood to preach their own truth...

There was little else he could do there, so after a few minutes, Manabu stepped away from the memorial and toward the entrance of the park, disconcerting thoughts of the Black Hoods rolling through his mind. In fact, Manabu was so focused on the defacement of the memorial and the implications of that that he didn't notice the grey shroud enveloping the sun... until, as he was halfway back to the park entrance, a thick drop of water landed on his nose.

He flinched and looked up to the sky as a few more drops began to fall... and quickly began to pick up speed. Crap. Of all days to forget an umbrella.

He broke into a sprint toward the entrance of the park, the rain quickly picking up as the wind blew past, sending sheets of water into his clothes. He was quickly becoming soaked, his cotton hoodie holding onto far more water than was comfortable.

Down the path and out of the park gates he went, sprinting until he reached a set of buildings further down the street. He ducked under the awning of a small supermarket and rested his back against the wall.

He was soaked to the bone, and more than that, he was cold. It felt like it had dropped ten degrees since the rain had started. Rogue cold front, maybe. As he reached for his phone, he felt a shiver set in. He pulled it from his pants pocket and breathed a sigh of relief as it turned on. It was still dry.

If only he knew someone with a car, he could get a ride home... but the only people he knew were Hanako (no) and his mother (definitely not). There was nothing to do but shiver here... which he was doing quite well. He felt like a hairless cat trying to stay warm.

And as he had that thought, Manabu suddenly sneezed. He looked mortified. The last thing he needed was a cold...

Ugly Crying
Atsuko was glad her mother made her take an umbrella when she left for the store. The rain was really coming down, and getting wet was not a plan for the day. So she walked down the street, umbrella in one hand, and her phone in her right, as well as a plastic bag on her wrist. Full of a mixture of candy and some colored pencils.

It was chilly, even with a jacket. But she bet any poor soul who got caught up in the rain was suffering more than she was. Luckily, it seemed most people left or were prepared, which made the girl happy that she didn't see anyone suffering.

She chose to send a text to her mom that she would be home soon, then went on Bedlam as she walked. Risky if someone who wasn't on "her side" saw and recognized it. Of course, she could try to play it off as a role-playing forum if for whatever reason she was questioned about it.

Atsuko began walking near the park, and the set of buildings nearby. She spotted a supermarket, and then her eyes drifted to the poor boy who was soaked to the bone. "Oh!" She gasped.

Atsuko hurried towards him, and went under the awning and folded the umbrella. "Hey, are you okay? You must be freezing!" She said.

"Oh boy."

Turns out, the weather report today was accurate. For as much as he wished for the day to be sunny, one couldn't just fight against the weather, so being prepared was always for the best. Luckily, Osamu brought with him an umbrella to protect him from the rain, alongside with wearing a yellow jacket to protect himself for any ellusive raindrops.

After all, dress shirts tend to get transparent when soaked.

When the rain started, he turned to a corner and saw the park in the distance, with the intent of visiting it. It was a real shame, as he really looked forward to checking it out again, but as soon as he decided to turn around and return to the dorms, he found someone trying to escape the rain. Someone without an umbrella!

"Oh no!" He said to no one in particular, when he started running towards Manabu to give him aid. And suddently, as he was halfway there, he saw a girl go towards the awning of a supermarket, the same one Manabu went to, and started talking to him. However, that didn't stop him, and as soon as he reached the both of them, he turned towards the man. "Hey you, I noticed you didn't have an umbrella with you! Do you need any help?" He asked, standing just outside of the awning with his umbrella covering him from the downpour.

Manabu rubbed his arms vigorously, futilely trying to warm himself up. It wasn't doing much good, with how wet he was, but it was the best idea he had at the moment. He needed to get out of these clothes, first and foremost, but he didn't know where any cheap clothing stores were from here... Even though he'd lived here all of his life, he just wasn't very familiar with Uptown Nagashima's layout. Plus... everything seemed so upscale. Downtown could be upscale too, but not in the way that it made him uncomfortable walking around.

He blinked, wiping away a drop of water that had landed on his false eye and gone unnoticed, and sneezed again, at almost the exact instant someone started talking to him. He looked up, and suddenly flinched back as he realized two people had walked up to him.

"...Y-Yes, I'm c-c-cold," Manabu said through chattering teeth. "I'd l-l-like to g-g-get out of the rain but--"

He sneezed again.

"...e-even if I d-d-do, my clothes are soaked," he finished.

Atsuko barely noticed the other guy come over. She had more important issues to deal with at the moment. Mainly the freezing boy in front of her. She knew she had to get him out of the rain first, but he was right, his clothes were still soaked.

You could use some fire to warm him up.

Atsuko chose to ignore that thought as that would be a little rude, and would also paint a target on her back for any possible Black Hoods. "We can't solve that problem until you get out of the rain. How about we escort you to your apartment, or anywhere warm really."

Indeed, the stranger that was poorly dressed for the rain was in a very sorry state, sneezing and shaking from the cold. As he observed that, Osamu also noticed that a girl was also trying to offer aid to Manabu, which helped his smile be maintained through this sudden ordeal. It was pretty nice to see that the people of Nagashima were pretty nice!

"I agree with her, you'll catch a cold in this state! Which reminds me."
He said, as he grabbed his umbrella's handle with his mouth, and quickly took off his jacket, revealing his white dress shirt, as it gained a couple water drops from his umbrella being at a different position. Once it was off him, he offered it to the man. "This will keep you warm!"

Manabu looked up at the man woefully, frowning up at the jacket he was being offered, and then he started to pull off his own jacket. The wet fabric stuck to his arm as he pulled it off with a wet slapping noise, and then took the jacket from Osamu. He immediately felt bad as he pulled it on; his shirt wasn't as damp as his jacket was, but ultimately he was going to get water all over this stranger's jacket. He did feel a bit warmer once he got it on, but the guilt remained.

"Th-thank you," he said, managing not to chatter through that one too badly. He turned toward Atsuko and nodded. "My ap-p-partment's at Kawabe. I think it's a twenty m-minute walk from here."

He pointed vaguely in the direction of town the apartment complex was in. On the bright side, it actually wasn't that far from where they were, and the apartment's tower was clearly visible through the rain. On the downside, it was still coming down in thick sheets...

"Well, let's get you out of here then." Atsuko said as she stepped out of the rain and extended her umbrella. There was enough room for her and the boy to walk underneath it, and the other guy had his own umbrella so it worked out fine. She motioned for Manabu to join her underneath it.

She smiled at the other guy. "Thanks for helping out! It's very kind of you!" She said happily. It would be a lot harder if it was only herself. She wanted to help, but her jacket was probably too small for Manabu.

"Since we're all walking together. How about we introduce ourselves. I'm Atsuko Hiroyuki, I'm a second year at Reitaku!" She exclaimed.

Osamu smiled warmly as Manabu accepted the jacket, feeling glad that the stranger would at least feel a bit more warm and dry from the monsoon that plagued the city at the moment. Once he held the umbrella with his hand again, he heard Manabu point to him and Atsuko the direction of his house. Even with no clear address, Osamu was definitely willing to take the poor man to his home.

"No time to waste!" He said, as the three of them took off. He smile turned to a toothy grin when Atsuko complimented him for his action, which made Osamu reply with "It is always best to give someone a hand, isn't that right?" as he turned to Manabu when he made the question. And then Atsuko decided to introduce herself, suggesting the others should do the same. "I'm Osamu Oshiro, first year student at Rokujima!"

...Atsuko wanted him to walk under her umbrella with her. Was she ignorant to the obvious romantic implications of such a maneuver? If she wasn't, then clearly she just didn't care. Unfortunately, Manabu was in a position to care -- he had enough bad rumors spreading around him already (many of them true), and he didn't want to inflict his bad reputation on someone who'd been unlucky enough to want to help him.

He sneezed again, and was suddenly reminded of how miserable he felt at the moment, and quietly, he took a step under the umbrella. Hopefully, she wouldn't take this as anything. He certainly didn't want to.

He looked up at Osamu as he turned to him, and then back down at his feet. He supposed it was always good to help people. At least, that was the societal ideal.

"...M-Manabu Kaerunuma. Second year at Taiyoutono," Manabu answered. There was a time where he would have followed that up with 'Head of the Occult Club', but something felt shameful about that admission in this moment.
