Name: Kaede Susaki (数 楓)
Gender: Female
Age: 18 (Birthday: May 11th)

Class: 3-1 (previously in 2-1)

Clubs/Occupation: Art Club

Personality: The first impression Kaede tends to give is that of someone who's physically incapable of being anything but an asshole. This impression is not entirely incorrect. Though she’s mellowed out in recent months, Kaede’s never really mastered the art of proper anger management techniques, and her fuse is, much like herself, painfully short. Add that to her confrontational attitude, and her blunt manner of speaking, and you have someone who’s just really not a pleasant person to be around at most times.

Underneath it all, she’s ultimately a very caring person who has a hard time keeping herself out of bullshit when it happens. She tends to get a little embarrassed if someone calls her out on this, since she prefers to present a hard exterior. She’s often honest to the point of brutality, both about others and herself, and has often struggled with feelings of depression over her role in everything in Nagashima.

She’s surprisingly easy to make friends with, despite her personality. A healthy dose of self-awareness about herself, and a surprising level of tolerance and willingness to forgive helps, and several of the people she considers herself friends with she had serious conflicts with at the start.

History: Kaede was born in Yokohama and lived there for most of her life. Her parents were both decidedly average office workers who lived in a decidedly average apartment and worked decidedly average jobs. Their first child, Kaede, showed a great interest in art as she grew up, which her parents were all too eager to indulge her in, and as she grew older, it became more and more clear that Kaede was something of an art prodigy, and by the time she was ten years old, several of her pieces were being entered into childrens’ art competitions. Meanwhile, her younger brother, Itsuki, had been born, and the two children were getting along swimmingly. From the outside, it looked like the family had no real issues.

Unfortunately for Kaede, her life both inside and outside the artistic community was troubled. As the years went on, her tomboyish habits and distinct appearance proved to be a convenient excuse for people to bully her, which was commonly overlooked by the teachers at her school. Within the artistic community, she had begun to notice an obvious bias in the judges and critics who looked at her paintings, who often picked paintings by less skilled male artists over her own, and were far more critical on hers. This continued for years until Kaede’s growing stress finally exploded at the end of her last year of elementary school. She destroyed many of her old paintings, began to get in verbal fights with her family and her schoolmates, cut her hair extremely short, and got into a fistfight with several of her hecklers on school grounds, which ended with her suspension.

Following Kaede’s explosion and suspension, her parents decided that, for her health, they would apply for a transfer to another city together, and the family ended up moving to Nagashima. With her hair cut short, her preference for the male uniform at her school, and her irritable mannerisms, many of Kaede’s new schoolmates began to mistake her for being male, something she was never particularly quick to correct people on. She buried herself into her artwork, she continued to get into fights, and became something of a bully herself. By the time she reached high school, she mostly became known for scowling at people in the back of the Art Club room and being a generally unpleasant person to be around.

In Kaede’s second year of high school, she, along with a group of other students, was abducted by the butterfly and taken to the ruins, where she awakened to the Persona Skuld. In the same visit that she awakened to her Persona, Kaede bore witness to two significant events, both apparently brought on by their own Personas: Manabu Kaerunuma’s attempt to sexually assault Miyuki Fusoku, and Miyuki Fusoku’s subsequent monster form episode, in which she tried to murder Manabu. Shaken by the incident, and without anything else to inform her otherwise, Kaede formed her own perspective on Personas: that they were inherently dangerous, and the only responsible thing to do would be to end all of this as quickly as possible.

And when, at the first and last collective meeting the Taiyoutono Persona users had, Sora Mori proposed that they abuse their powers for their own gain, Kaede decided she would have none of it. She was the first to step up and tell Sora to step off, forming a group of Persona users specifically to keep those who'd decided to follow Sora’s ideals from doing so. Over time, her loose collective of Persona users grew, and she became something of an important figure in the Persona user community. At the same time, she started building up a fairly large group of friends of acquaintances in the community, and started dating Kaji Okawa.

But then Chouko Yaguruma died, and shortly thereafter, Sora Mori descended to a malicious new Persona, with a malicious new personality to accompany it. And when she took it upon herself to try and handle Sora, he was able to trap her and talk her into a breakdown… and it was at this moment of terror that she had her first vision of the future.

The situation with Sora was eventually resolved, but Kaede’s future sight abilities remained. She kept them secret, especially as it became clear that she was having visions of people she knew having horrible fates. It wasn’t long after the situation with Sora was taken care of that she had a vision of a golden knight on top of a pile of corpses… which she quickly discovered was about her boyfriend, as he descended to Knight Templar following the apparent death of his friend, and then began attacking other Persona users.

She confronted Kaji on her own, ending in her going into monster form, and him into armored form, and from what she could tell, a double knockout. When the two of them met again, it was after Kaji had done some hard thinking on his own, and their meeting ended with Kaede witness to another ascension.

From that point on, very little happened with Kaede. She continued to lead the Persona users into the ruins and search for documents. But the deep rooted discontent remained.

And on the day the park incident occurred, Kaede left the community.

But for as much as she wanted to stay away, she couldn’t. Not so long as she was having visions about events that would be happening in the near future. So Kaede secretly made another Bedlam account, under the name of “Oracle”, and began to post her visions through there. It wasn’t long before she was outed though, and as more of her more dire visions became true, she started to fall further into despair, culminating in her descending to Pythia, a persona that was wholly harmful to her. While under her Persona’s influence, she engaged in several actions that weren’t good for anyone involved, while Sora and Kaji tried to bring her back to her senses. For weeks afterward, she struggled with her own depression and her role with this ability, until she had a horrifying vision: her brother, newly awakened to his Persona, being killed by Shadows.

She rushed to the ruins together with another group of users, and they were just barely able to save Itsuki from his unfortunate fate. But by this point, Kaede was convinced that she would never be able to do anything right, and shortly afterward, she attempted to commit suicide by throwing herself off a bridge, and had to be saved by Kaji’s timely intervention.

Kaede’s friends tried to convince her why she should keep living, and she continued to struggle with her self-hate. Finally, one day, she went to visit her brother in the hospital, and after talking through things with him, she was finally able to move on from the feelings that had caused her to descend to Pythia, ascending to a new Persona: Skadi.

Following her new ascension, Kaede did not return to a leadership role in the Persona community. Instead, she continued to trawl the ruins and post Oracle threads to Bedlam when needed. Since then, she has maintained connections with the other active Persona users in the community and become good friends with quite a few of them. But with Nana Samurakami’s recent death, the Black Hoods remaining a threat, and the recent resurgence in activity from the inhabitants of the ruins, Kaede has found herself stepping up to the plate once again, if only out of a desire to see this all to its end.

Kaede's appearance is all around very androgynous. Though she's thin, she's not built with very noticeable curves. Combine this with her boyish face and short hair and it's not all that surprising that she’s often confused for a man (which is just fine by her, most days). She has heterochromia (it runs in her family), and her left eye is blue while her right is brown. She’s also very short for someone her age; she’s easily on the lower end of female height range, while most men tower over her.

Kaede’s wardrobe mostly consists of plain black pants and white button-ups. This is mostly because she buys her clothing in bulk, and the pants and shirts are the same ones she wears with her school uniform. She also prefers to wear a pair of tough black boots, the kind that are meant more for practical use than fashion, and the soles and toe of these boots are splattered with a mixture of paint and mud that she doesn’t care to wash off. Her most distinctive piece of clothing is a black beret that she wears most everywhere, including to school. Seeing her take this beret off is akin to seeing a unicorn.

Weapon: Typically uses knives, though she’d really prefer not to. She currently carries a small switchblade with a maple patterned hilt for self defense and the occasional Shadow stabbing.
Mask: Kaede’s mask is a black and white comedy/drama mask. Strangely enough, despite ascending twice now, Kaede’s mask has remained the same through all of her ascensions.

* Passive skill. Kaede will occasionally receive visions of an unfortunate future, as well as vague sensations of who all are involved in the event and the time frame it appears in. These range from definite, timed declarations of when an event takes place to symbolic representations of likely events. The more likely an event is to occur, the more definite the vision and the sensations carried are to her. These visions are random, and Kaede has no control over when she receives them, just the vague forewarning that one is coming.

Have you read all the stickies? Considering I’ve gone mad with very real power, I’ll let you guess.
