"I could recommend Sanae Ichikawa. I've worked with her in the past. I don't think she's directly involved in this matter, but she's trustworthy and competent. That should be good enough." And like that, Maki had conspicuously ignored Cheiko's mention of Makoto's study habits, and as well as offered to involve a non-user in the affair. At least Sanae could have been relied upon to be the 'anti-murder' camp. She couldn't help but feel guilty about asking her about it on a need-to-know basis.

Seiji however, had run out of tact a while ago. He'd heart the story of Kyo playing decoy for Natsumi Aizawa third hand. To be honest, it was one of those episodes that summed up perfectly why most of the time, he was something of a staid, sour dude who wanted little to do with what was really going on in Nagashima. At least he was helpful enough to point out that one detail that the Charinkos had left out that Cheiko might be interested in.

"Up her ass."
He said with a flat monotone that only had just enough room for the slightest hints of irritation to start seeping in from the seems. For extra emphasis, he was even motioning with his thumb. "From what I hear, Kyo smuggled the phone in up her ass."

Detective Yamada could have very well had his head for that, but at that point he didn't mind if that happened. The important details were planned out and he knew where, there was no danger of backsliding to the fucking farce of a honeypot and getting Chika dragged into it and there was something up with Kyo beyond the typical sort of scheming. Once he realized that, his engagement kind of plummeted, to be honest.

There was one thing to say. "Well, I doubt that's gonna happen this time. Some people actually take studying seriously." Of course, by 'some people.' he meant himself. Huge shocker there, the person with the reputation of being a giant nerd was known to go hard when he hit the books. "One way or the other, Makoto's alabi will be airtight. Either he'll be studying all night, or if he wastes time I could be spending with my own girlfriend or properly studying with that shit, he's gonna have someone at the hospitals ER vouch for him after they put in all the stitches."

That was a joke. In the sense that if he were dumb enough to try that, the punchline would be Makoto's nose. Where it was broken, you see.

"…That aside, is there anything else that needs to be said?"

"I have a question for the younger miss Charinko I'd like to ask, but now isn't the right time for it, so I'd like to request that we talk about this later on." Yeah, talk with Kyo that was um…yeah.

Best Influence.
Shin grimaced, and eventually closed his eyes and rubbed his forehead through the unnecessary description of teenaged sex parties and hiding a phone in one's rectal cavity. Why they felt compelled to share any of this was beyond Shin, though he imagined it had something to do with his comment about scheduling. Why he had to uncork that particular bottle and release that particular shit-genie, he had no idea. Honestly, the best response would most likely be to escape at the earliest point in time and go make whatever necessary preparations there were. perhaps just pre-preparations, given the fact that he was off the clock at the moment.

"None of this is pertinent information," he said at a break in the discussion. "Please stop sharing."

He stood up.

"I'll contact Sae Ichikawa," he said, nodding to Maki, "and Ken Aizawa," he said to Kyo, "and arrange for watching the alleyway in question. If there's nothing else, though, I'd like to leave this place so as to avoid any further unexpected -- and, frankly, unwelcome -- discussion of orifices belonging to minors and things being placed inside of them."

I'm the best! I'm the king of me! I'm gonna eat chips out of the garbage!

The cop was a big prude. Big surprise there. Chieko leaned back in her seat, apparently somewhat satisfied that she'd managed to derail the conversation and embarrass half of the people present at the same time. The only other part of the discussion that really got any reaction from her was Seiji mentioning just where Kyo had hid her cell phone. She raised an eyebrow at Seiji, before turning to look at Kyo and frowning at her judgmentally.

Kyo's comment about not being around to assist much longer caused Yu to narrow his eyes at her. The following snap at Eri caused his suspicious gaze to deepen, but he didn't say anything.

"That's fine with me," Chieko said to Eri. Whatever Charinko's mom wanted to do with her was probably business related, so if it was anything too serious, she'd probably just pass it on to Goto and let him deal with it. "You wanna go now?"

"We're all in agreement then? We're done here? Fujiwara's done making veiled threats?" Makoto asked. Without waiting for an answer, he stood. "Great. I'm going home and doing literally anything else. Call me when it's time to fake a study session."

"We're not faking--" Yu started, before letting out a sigh. "Forget it."

He started walking toward the door, following after Makoto, only to stop as they passed Kyo. He turned toward her with an expression of concern on his face.

"Hey," he said as he stopped, and turned fully toward her. "I don't know what you're up to, but be careful, okay? I consider you a friend, and..." he glanced toward Makoto, before dropping the volume of his voice, "I think Makoto would be upset if anything happened to you, too."

"Yu, are you coming?" Makoto called from the door.

"Yeah, sorry," Yu said. He gave Kyo a quick bow, and then headed for the door after Makoto.

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
Kyo didn't give any outward sign that she had a problem with Seiji just blurting out something disgusting like that, although it was difficult to tell, since with her back to the sofa, no one could see her face unless she looked back at them. This of course meant that she wasn't looking when Chieko gave her a look. Eri on the other hand, and also unseen by her daughter, might as well have transformed into a flaming balrog on the spot and begun flailing her multi-tailed fire whip all about the room, because the look that came over her eyes looked quite dangerous. She waited patiently where she sat, however, as Yu and Makoto said their goodbyes and left.

Her daughter looked back and made eye contact with Yu. She shrugged. "I ain't up to anything that's gonna get me hurt, don't worry," she said. She gestured around the office. "...It's just that I don't know what my priorities'll look like right now, with this operation kickin' into gear soon and all. Take care, okay? And don't be too quick to assume everything's gone FUBAR if somethin' goes wrong with the plan, just keep cool and talk to the others before doin' anything. That goes for you, too, Makoto! Don't be a spaz."

She waved, and turned back to look toward the desk and window once again.

The Persona that had been waiting outside when Seiji stepped out was no longer present by the time Makoto stepped out of the door; Kyo had dismissed it. She had spent half the meeting distracted by the effort of will needed to maintain its manifestation and change "gears" in order to see and hear from its point of view, but now that the meeting was over and it had turned out to be an unnecessary precaution, she exhaled in relief and closed her eyes... then heard her mother stand up abruptly and glanced around to look.

Eri stalked around to Seiji and stopped in front of him, giving him a withering look that didn't seem to touch any part of her face except for her eyes, which were tight with anger and dislike. She contemplated for a moment just saying what she wanted to say to be done with it, but the next moment consciously decided to do what her boiling blood was crying out for:

Her hand snapped up light lightning and slapped the boy on the cheek.

"I don't know what your problem with my daughter is, but this childishness doesn't suit you," she hissed. "If you can't conduct yourself like a mature adult, learn how to do that before you give anyone else a hard time over their own behavior."

Kyo flinched visibly at the resounding smack that sounded on impact, and, seemingly unconsciously, she winced and rubbed at her own face as if she'd felt the slap herself. She had, once before; but it occurred to her that in spite of all the times she had gotten into an argument with her mother, Eri had only raised a hand against her one time, and it had been on the day that she had been called to school to talk with the guidance counselor over the drama that Kyo had started with another girl over her boyfriend. The guidance counselor hadn't known the extent of it, but Eri, it had almost seemed, had seen right through their childish deflecting to the truth and understood what her daughter had done. Words reverberated in Kyo's head along with the memory. Eri had not, however, called Kyo out on what she'd done. She'd just given her that same look, tinged with disappointment, and then slapped her. And she had waited until they were home, and until she had confirmed that her husband was out of the house, to do it.

Don't give me that back-talk, Kyo! If you have a problem with the ways of the world, then be better than them, not worse. Now, you are going back to your room and you are going to study. I am going to make us dinner. Think about what I've said...

Kyo's eyes flickered.

Think about what I've said.

Kyo hadn't thought about it. She'd been so angry, so intent on her own grinding teeth, that she'd forgotten the words almost as soon as they were spoken.

If you have a problem with the ways of the world, then be better than them, not worse.

Kyo looked away from her mother, letting her hand drop. Eri, huffing to herself, turned away from Seiji without waiting for an answer. She looked next to Chieko, her anger melting away before they'd even made eye contact. "This won't take long, but it will be my treat," Eri said. "Just follow me, it's not far."

Her daughter had turned away again, giving no sign that she was rejecting Seiji's request to talk but no agreement as to it, either: this was probably the closest she would get to telling anyone how much Seiji's interjection had stung her. Not because of the content, she really didn't give much of a damn about that; it was more the spirit of it that bothered her, frustrated her. Seiji was, in his own way, a credit to the team and a trustworthy companion besides. But the two of them had never seen eye to eye on anything, and of the two of them, only Seiji was really resistant to reconciling their differences. Kyo wanted to overcome that barrier.

But it didn't seem like there was enough time left for that.

Eri moved to the door but turned toward the two police officers before opening it, bending into a full bow in their direction. "Thank you for coming," she said, before straightening up. "It's reassuring to have the two of you involved. I'll speak to you both later, Maki-san... Inspector Imoto. Oh, and, Inspector? Kyo-chan told me about that case you solved while you were away." The woman smiled. "You truly are a credit to your department."

With that, she turned to the door, opening it and stepping aside to allow Chieko to pass in front of her.

He Was a lot of things, but Seiji was no idiot. You couldn't say that and not expect some sort of retaliation or reprimand, and he was fully prepared to pay for his words. The expected vector was from Det. Yamada, he was already on thin ice with her patience. That instead of being manhandled and bodily ejected. He wasn't expecting scathing words and a slap from Eri.

He was completely without context for that. His own parents never raised their hands to him. She turned away before he had a chance to say anything. It suited him fine, he didn't owe her an explanation, and he wasn't owed being listened to if he did. His cheek stung, and he heard her words just fine, but the core of his vitriol remained untouched. At the end of the day they were beholden to an absurd situation. The 'reasonable'solution seldom worked, and he struggled to find sense in all of it. Polite manners slapped over it helped nothing, why not speak frankly?

”Of course, we have much to do.” She didn't try very hard to veil her disappointment. Being fed up was understandable, but no excuse. She put it out her mind as she filed out in time.

Seiji had nothing to add as he left. His request to speak with her quietly withdrawn. The result was the same no matter what he did, either way.
