"Mmmh~!"

The sun shinned across the sky, something that was clear by the ceiling window at Tanjiro Shopping Center. It made the entire place lit up with natural light, which attracted a lot of people during this small season that was the Golden Week. In fact, it was the middle of the Golden Week, when people were using the time they have left for big plans, as they know it'd end soon, which made the shopping center be packed with a lot of people.

Specially now, given how it was the early afternoon, a period of time people would consider the 'rush hour'. But the density of people did not bother a certain fellow, who was right now eating a cone of strawberry ice cream. In fact, people could probably tell that just by looking at him, what with his hair being styled in a more messy way, his dress shirt being half unbuttoned so that people could see his yellow shirt underneath, and elegant looking black pants, which almost made his white shoes shine thanks to the contrast.

It's almost like he was dressed to impress. Was that the case? Only he knew. Right now, all he cared for was talking a stroll across the shopping center, looking at what it has to offer. Ever since he arrived to Nagashima, a few weeks earlier, he's been tied up with college work, and adjusting to being on his own, causing him to not explore a lot of the city. But now that the Golden Week was upon him, he felt it was the right time to give the city a more throughout exploration. And today, he decided to visit the mall, and he definitely found it to his liking.

For a brief moment he wondered if he should have called Yuu to give him a hand in the exploration, but he was told that she had a busy week ahead of her. This was a couple of days ago, and he didn't hear from her ever since. But no problem! Osamu felt that venturing alone would be more fun!

Although, a bit of company wouldn't be so bad, he felt.

Fucking hell, Michi.

Around the same time, one lady who didn't have Golden Week's time off applied to (but still had today, lucky for her) was walking swiftly through Tanjiro. She was holding a large wallet in her right hand, and seemed to have a phone and some various other items placed in her dress pants pockets. How someone was able to walk in those brown boots swiftly enough was an interesting secret, but also an admirable technique. As for what she was unhappy about, it was unclear, but obviously it made her a bit more wound up right now than the ponytail she put her hair in. That being said, it could also have very well been her lack of purse. As for Mayako, she knew fully well what was angering her today. Michi had created a massive mess in City Hall yesterday morning, not taking the news of the former chief of police coming by very well. One thing led to another, but now Mayako was without a purse (a functioning one anyways), and as for Michi, he should have become jobless if Mayako had anything to say about it; nepotism said far more.

With all this in mind, Mayako was without a purse when she'd rather be without a certain employee. Needing a replacement for the former, she had gone to Tanjiro that day in order to source a replacement. Her previous purse was getting a bit old anyways, but she had kept it for sentimental reasons that ultimately boiled down to it being a gift from her grandmother, and she wouldn't be in such a mood in the future, but that thing was well over a decade old. It had lasted well beyond its use, and its replacement was going to come eventually. That didn't stop how it came to be ruined from causing a load of displeasure though.

So here she was on her one day off, in Tanjiro. She had one thing in mind, and one thing only- get a new purse, and walk out. She wasn't going to waste money on anything else, and she'd go back home and eat lunch. But it was in that moment she paused her stride, a few things going across her mind. One was that it'd be spent with her grandmother, and that it would ergo NOT be an enjoyable lunch. Another was that she saw someone eating ice cream.

Shit, when did Tanjiro get ice cream? She had some surprise, but for the most part, a smile was on her face, masking it. She hadn't had ice cream in years, but remembered the last time she had it, it was good. Seeing the guy dressed far more stylishly than she was today in her rusty orange shirt, gray dress pants, and brown boots, she walked over, friendly look on her face. "Excuse me, but where'd you get that ice cream?" Mayako's voice sounded utterly sure in asking where it was found. Either way, she showed no reaction to his mode of dress, seeming completely fine.

The middle of Golden Week…as far as she was concerned, it was just another day. But the time of getting overly excited about extended days off from school were quite behind her. However, it did happen to be that this particular day, Maki Yamada was also enjoying a day off from work.

As tempting as it was to spend the entire day crawled into bed and never leaving the warm confines of the covers except for as biological imperatives demanded, she was short a few essentials. Which is why the woman with red hair done up in a bun and light mocha skin shown off mainly in a sleeveless black and white dress with a dogstooth pattern was walking with one hand holding a pair of moderately-sized plastic grocery bags and was checking messages on a smart phone with the other.

She looked up at just the right time for a glimpse of a distinct, eye-catching hue of hair, and realized it was a bit familiar to her. The name attached to the dour face and faded-sand color hair was recalled instantly. "Maeshima? Mayako Maeshima…?"

It was enough to stop her from just walking by. Instead she stepped aside to allow people with places to be to do that without her being in their way. It was only then that she noticed the young man with the strategically messy hair, the sharp clothing and the cone of ice cream.

"Ah, am I interrupting a conversation? Please don't mind me."

According to the locals, Tanjiro Shopping Center was the one place where you could find everything and anything you might desire. While Liam knew that it was exaggeration for marketing purposes, he was still surprised at just how many weird things the shopping center actually held. For example, he saw some place selling multi colored mothballs, who needs multicolored mothballs?

As Liam sat on one of the shopping center's many benches pondering the point of multi colored mothballs, he noticed a woman with dark sandy talking to a fashionably dressed
young man around his age. Liam started starring at the woman, he was pretty sure he had seen her somewhere before, but he couldn't quite figure out from where. Not one to leave his curiosity unsatisfied, Liam got up from the bench and began approaching the two, just as another red headed woman appeared to have the same reaction to the sandy haired woman.

Liam pushed his way into view of the small group that was forming before looking at the sandy haired women and quickly saying "Do I know you from somewhere?". He then looked over to boy and said with a smile "Nice Hair" before turning his attention back to the sandy haired woman.

"Mmmh~?" As Osamu ate the ice cream gleefully, his walk was interrupted by a stranger, one that seemingly had no real sense in fashion. Of course, that wasn't in Osamu's mind, what was in his mind was how she approached him to ask him the location of where he got that ice cream. "Ah, I got it over there, in that ice cream parlor!" He said, turning to a side to point at it, it's image vaguely obscured by the people walking by. "It seems to be recently opened, but it's homemade ice creams are amazing!"

And suddenly, another lady appeared, apparently already knowing Mayako. He tilted his head a bit, confused by how she apologize for intruding their conversation. "Oh! No worries, I was just giving her directions!" It felt a bit strange, he said that as if he was already a native to the city, while he was still pretty green. But he definitely felt quite good saying that nevertheless.

However, today's surprises wouldn't stop, as someone else approached them, also trying to identify the first lady. "Hehe, you seem quite popular!" He said to Mayako, before turning towards Liam. "Oh, thanks! Turns out that letting it grow a bit had it's advantages!" Osamu added, making the hair on his back flow a bit with his free hand.

Mayako's gaze looked towards the new ice cream parlor. Her eyebrow raised with some surprise, but it turned into a mixture between a smile and a smirk a moment later. It was pretty evident what her plans were going to be, if not sooner than later. "Ah, really? Thank you then," Mayako said towards the boy. Her gaze turned back towards him as she spoke, and the smirking aspect of her face fell away. "You just made my day quite nice." Her thoughts, in comparison, were much more to the point: Oh hell yes, this day just became worth it.

And with that, Mayako's day took some sort of swerve. Another lady approached her, dress clashing garishly with her skin and hair. As she said her name unsure, Mayako's face was indeed dour, and she was questioning why this lady wanted to be sure it was her. Granted, people asking about Shinzo were uncommon by this point; it had happened a few years ago, but it still could just as easily be a reporter wanting to do another follow-up, and thus another one to shut down. But as Mayako scanned, her, one eyebrow raised, recognizing someone she hadn't seen in well over a decade.

"Maki Yamada...." As the name rolled off Mayako's tongue, her expression shifted. Gone was the lady scanning for threats, and in its place, someone much more agreeable. It seemed as if she were both evaluating your capabilities and you as a person, but liked what she saw. With this small grin, she spoke up again. "It looks like you've never left Nagashima. How did getting into law enforcement turn out along with everything else?" While to the point, her tone clearly held some friendliness in it therein, though it was a bit more coarse than it had been back in high school.

Shit, I have changed. She stopped that thought from becoming anymore prominent.

Then, a foreigner approached the group. Mayako's gaze returned to being dour. It wasn't out of some sort of prejudice or malice; the amount of non-Japanese was just merely something that helped Nagashima stand out among the rest of the nation, and she remembered how when a judge had stopped by after the case with those Brits, he had complained to someone about a cavalcade of witnesses. This one, however, seemed to be on the cusp of recognizing her, and Mayako was certain he was not another fellow Taiyoutono alumni pushed to the back of her mind.

Thus, she seemed to be trying to figure him out, if the dour grin showed anything. "I don't know," was her cagey response. Her head, meanwhile, was different.

Shit. Now I remember why I haven't been here for awhile.

"Yes, it's good to see you again." She nodded and spoke with a calm, subdued way. Mayako might have found herself more abrasive than when she was her senpai in school, but Maki retained the same general sort of demeanor as when she was a far too serious for her own good first year. "Reasonably well, I feel like I'm actually going somewhere and it keeps me busy."

So, Mayako was evidently planning to indulge her sweet tooth when Maki chanced upon her. The second young man? Well, her first thought was he was an acquaintance of the first who'd just given her directions to the ice cream shop.

Other than standing out a bit in her memory, The redheaded woman didn't find too much remarkable about residents of Nagashima that weren't born in the country anymore. Other than a reminder to herself to monitor Bart's status to make sure he was staying out of trouble.

But in her current state of mind, she noticed that what had brought the wandering young man over was Mayako, who was giving him a terse, guarded response.

…there was that matter with her employer in city hall? She normally wasn't one for scuttlebutt, but it never hurt to keep an eye on the goings on in departments and offices you might need to work closely with some day.

It didn't sound bad enough that random people on the street were recognizing her for that, so most likely that wasn't why he thought he saw her? "Her hair color is somewhat distinctive, perhaps you saw her in passing somewhere?"

Perhaps there was some fodder for the tabloids that would deny Mayako the ability to just fly under the radar with most people, but she tried to steer the course of the conversation to something friendly and topical. "I'm afraid I haven't introduced myself to either of you. I'm Maki Yamada, how do you do?"

"Yeah, I haven't seen a lot of guys with longer hair around here, it was much more common where I'm from" Liam added, he was already beginning to like the man, though he wasn't the biggest fan of the yellow shirt.

Liam the turned his attention back to the sandy haired woman, and let out a small smile at her stern response. He could tell he had gotten a bit under her skin, meaning there's probably some reason he would recognize her, and not one she was to proud of.

However, Liam's attention was quickly diverted to the red haired women, as she seemed to be trying to make a save for the sandy haired woman. "That could be it, your hair does stand out quite a bit" rsponded Liam, as he looked back over at the sandy haired woman, running his hand through his own hair as he did so. Whatever or wherever it was he may have known her from, she clearly didn't want to be recognized, and he had stopped caring enough to pursue it, as the red haired woman introduced herself to the group.

"Oh, yes I guess I should introduced myself as well. My name's Liam Wilde, and I'm doing just fine at the moment." Liam responded, holding his hand out to the red haired woman.

While Mayako was showing a smile that might or might not be 100% sincere, Osamu on the other hand flashed her a big grin of satisfaction due to helping the lady. "No problem! Brightening someone's day is always good!" He said, with a tone that was a mix between proudness and sincere glee.

And then she talked to the other lady, revealing that she was apparently someone in law enforcement. "Oh my, are you a cop?" Osamu asked Maki, looking at her with the curiosity of a child, before she introduced herself to everyone. "I'm Osamu Oshiro, nice to meet you all!" Would someone be bothered by the bubbliness of his voice? Maybe so.

The comment Liam made however, captured his curiosity. "Oh? You do seem like a foreigner, where do you come from?" That observation might have been impolite, but he was genuinely wondering about the man's origins, given how apparently his style of hair was more common where he was from.

Still speaks like that, but wears that dress?... Someone's done well for themselves, and they know it. Mayako smiled, approval evident at Maki thus far, though the jury was still out on her fashion sense. (Then again, the last she knew her, they had only seen each other in Taiyoutono's uniform. For Mayako's part, it was better to bury that behind.) "Hm, really? It seems like congratulations are in order from me then. I'm glad to hear all your diligence has paid off."

Mayako's eyes glanced at Maki. Though her face remained unchanging from the dour grin it held toward the foreigner, her tone did seem a bit more lighthearted as she spoke up. "I believe that must be it. If you knew me once, I would have remembered meeting you." Luckily enough for Mayako, it seemed neither of the two younger boys hadn't linked her appearance to the news a few years ago.

Then, everyone started introducing themselves. Mayako's expression shifted to a diplomatic one; while it had a light smile and a calm face, it seemed searching for anything that could go wrong as she spoke up her name. "Maeshima... Mayako Maeshima." Meanwhile, her head thought otherwise: Don't even think about the past. I'd rather be the only one to do that.
