The garu knocked the attacker aside, and the hama left a hand-sized spot on the attacker's side bleached and brittle. She drew in breath sharply and fell to the side, dropping her knife and scrambling back. she moved stiffly, apparently having suffered some kind of severe injury from the blast of coherent light. Blood began to soak through the hooded sweatshirt she wore. Chirp. "T-minus 10 seconds." The driver climbed out, and ran, clutching something small in one hand. The other four boiled forward. One of them broke off to attend to the injured woman, who had pulled off her bandana and turned her head away, and was now drawing deep ragged breaths. So that left three attackers for the moment. One of them came after Miharu with a length of chain, a padlock attached to the end of it, swinging it down and across from the left to right in an arc. The other two came after Hideki with collapsible batons, moving in concert with one another: one came in high, swinging towards the center of his mass, while the other one came in low, swinging across for a kneecap strike. |

Miharu froze temporarily when she saw one of the hoods bleeding. She almost felt bad, but Hideki calling her attention that Tomoyo was nearby got her attention. If there were only some way to stall them all without severely hurting them, but it was quite apparent if they didn't hurt them, the hoods would just do everything in their power to hurt her, Hideki, and potentially Tomoyo. Biting her lip, Miharu was about to cast a Malaqua when she heard something. "MIHARU!" Miharu turned to see Tomoyo panting heavily and standing at the end of the alleyway. Her eyes wide. She was about to shout to Tomoyo to get out of there but as she did the heavy padlock at the end of the chain connected with her head. It was no metal bat, but the speed it had been swinging and the weight of the padlock had been enough to make Miharu lose balance and stumble onto the ground with the side of her head bleeding. Tomoyo, meanwhile, gasped as she saw the assailant hit Miharu and two more people attacking Hideki. Almost instantly her initial panic was replaced with rage, and without hesitation, she started running towards the Black Hoods. "GET AWAY FROM THEM!" she yelled. Screaming, she ran towards the Black Hoods member that had hit Miharu, her fist ready to make contact and her body charging with a Tarukaja. Edited by Miharu Yoshikuni, Mar 31 2017, 07:13 AM.

"... Oh shit." On second thought, maybe the Hama was just as dangerous. Hideki briefly saw how the Hood's arm was in worst shape than he thought it'd be, as she ran back to the van, where one of her team mates came with something that looked like a medical kit. If it wasn't because he had no Dia or anything to help cure her, thus trying to call up a truce to make the Hoods understand that maybe they didn't need to fight. But no, all he had were destructive spells. And then, three Hoods came to fight them, alongside the voice of Tomoyo appearing. Hideki's eyes opened in surprise as Miharu reacted to her appearence, by getting smacked in the head by a padlock. And again, it felt like time advanced more slowly, as Hideki saw how Miharu stumbled to the ground, her head beginning to bleed. That instant caused a memory to flash in Hideki's mind, involving him, Miharu and someone else, during a moment when they were in grave danger. A familiar sensation of desperation and worry invaded his mind the very first moment the Hoods attacked, but it was seeing her fall down when they were increased tenfold. During that memory, he managed to save them both from danger. But not this time. Thus, something else began to appear in Hideki. A feeling he was all too familiar. A bad feeling. As his head turned, the briefly saw Tomoyo gasping, and then the two Hoods attacking him. His momentary freezing caused him to be unable to evade the first attack, aimed at his chest. Out of instinct telling him to retreat, he made a small hop back, with the impulse given to him by the strike, moving his legs away from the kneecap strike. He stumbled a bit as he tried to regain his footing, but as he did, he clenched his chest with his free hand, as his eyes turned back to the Hoods. During this entire ordeal, he sported a terrified look on his face, worried about the life of Miharu and what they Hoods could do to them. But now, it was different, his brow was furrowed, his mouth opening and closing due to his gasps, and strangest of all, his irises were, literally, flashing red intermittently. "You... You are GOING TO PAY!" He said, his voice beginning to slightly distort, as he casted Maragi at both of the Hoods attacking him, his attack possibly being aimed at their weapons. Possibly. |

The black hood who had hit Miharu was struck in the shoulder -- which would have been a terrible place for someone without a tarukaja enhancement to hit a person -- and their clavicle snapped. Their arm rolled in its socket, and hung uselessly at their side. They retreated, swinging the chain wildly toward Tomoyo, but it was useless flailing meant to avoid further attack, rather than an attack of its own. The attackers on Hideki, however, were not so lucky. The maragi washed over both of them, and they both reeled back, their clothes either alight or already burning. They began to roll across the ground, trying to put it out. One of them was apparently wearing a sweatshirt made primarily out of synthetic fibers, which did not help at all: his clothes went up in flames. Chirp: "Overwatch restored. Bringing in all reserves. Withdraw." The woman with the bleached spot and the black hood who had been tending to her slung her good arm over his shoulder and began to guide her out. |

While the hit had definitely dazed Miharu, she didn't go unconscious. She was vaguely aware of Tomoyo charging forth and delivering a blow to one of the hood members. "No, Tomoyo-chan, don't...ugh..." As she tried to straighten up, her head throbbed and she staggered. Tomoyo didn't seem in the least sorry about breaking the a person's collarbone. Wild-eyed and furious, she would have gone for another punch to knock the person out for good, but she had to step back on account of the chain flailing in her direction. She dodged, as she had many punches during her old fights in the backstreets. She would have continued to attack like a menace if she hadn't seen Hideki shout and suddenly set two people alight. That had woke her from her senses. "Tachibana-san!" Miharu had seen this too and was shocked. With the others retreating, she forced herself up and grabbed Hideki's arm. "Tachibana-san, Tomoyo-chan, they're distracted. Let's go!" she said. |

Alight. They were alight. No, they were burning. Without paying attention to how Tomoyo was dealing with the Hood that attacked Miharu, Hideki looked at how his attackers were trying to put out the flames. There was a look of anger in his face, a look that was downright uncharacteristic of the usually reserved boy, as he observed his attackers practically spaz around on the floor. "What this? Not so tough now, huh?? Where is your early bravado!?" He yelled, his voice still shifting between his regular tone, and the distortion form of it, which added a strange form of echo, as well as lowering the pitch a bit. It was clear that Hideki was being influenced by something, and that it wasn't good for the Hoods, or anyone around him. He rose the hook he still held, planning to do something more than just temporarily blinding them, but then Miharu grabbed his arm, in an attempt to stop him. His head turned to him, his eyes meeting hers. "They hurt us! They hurt you! We didn't do anything wrong! They won't listen to reason, they want us dead!!" He said, shaking his arm to weaken her grasp, before he looked at the other two Hoods that were trying to escape. "And I won't let them get away!" With that, he casted another Maragi to the escaping Hoods. Because they were further away, and in a less open space, there was a chance they could avoid it, but due to how close they are to each other, all it'd take would be one person to get hurt. Such a mindset was clear indication that something snapped inside of Hideki. |

One of the hoods who had been struggling to put himself out managed to get the sweatshirt off and flee into the cloud of white mist from the evaporated coolant. The other one curled up, unable to remove the burning sweatshirt he had wrapped himself in. The one who had been injured by Tomoyo took a wild potshot at her before fleeing, swinging the chain in a horizontal arc that would come around at head level, aiming to strike the fresh fighter straight-on in the face. Regardless, the injured Black Hood began to withdraw, looking to retreat into the same cloud of mist. Chirp. "Come in from the other side, the entrance off Kawakami Street. Provide pressure from behind." The fleeing pair that Hideki shot fire at didn't catch fire like the others, but they were damaged, suffering burns from the attack. There was the sound of approaching footsteps from the open street behind them. A great many footsteps. |

"Tachibana-san, NO!" Miharu yelled as he shot fire at the fleeing hoods. She had tried to grab him to pull him back, but the damage had been done. As if in an attempt to remedy the situation, Miharu cast a distant Malaqua not to close that it would hurt the hoods but it would be enough to spray at the fire and extinguish it. As Miharu had tried to urge Hideki to calm down, Tomoyo saw the chain headed her way. It aimed for her face and it almost got it, but she raised her arm fast enough that it got hit instead. Not that that was a good thing. The dead weight of the weapon made pain course through Tomoyo's arm as the hoods tried to flee. A large welt formed and she would have focused on it if Hideki hadn't been shouting like a madman. Tomoyo had never seen Hideki like this, ever. And in that moment, she realized something about herself more than him, in irony of it. The other hand still throbbing with pain, she rushed over to Hideki and linked her good arm around him in order to pull him back. "Tachibana, stop," she said firmly, not at all in the singsong voice she usually had. "Come on, before more of them come." Miharu would try to help Tomoyo in restraining Hideki. "Tachibana-san, please!" she said. "I...Let's not let anyone else get hurt anymore. Please..." For the duration of the fight, Miharu had tried her best to keep her voice from cracking, but it was now failing. If it hadn't been for her mask, Hideki would have probably seen she was tearing up, as well. |

"DON'T RUN, YOU COWARDS!" He yelled, as he saw how one of the Hoods he previously attacked managed to escape. He took one step forward, and his hand were suddenly set on fire, perhaps for intimidation, or maybe to just expulse the anger he was emanating at the moment. He did also notice that the Hood attacking Tomoyo was also trying to escape, attempting to deal damage as he ran from her. Even if Tomoyo's arm took the hit rather than her face, it still didn't sit well with Hideki, who was gritting his teeth in frustration. "THIS WAS YOUR CHOICE! YOUR CHOICE!" With that said, he rose his burning arms, as if he was about to cast another Maragi towards all the Hoods in front of him, but a visage caused him to stop. The Hoods there were further away from everyone else had a splash of water fall close to them, but the only source of water was from Miharu. Confused and annoyed, Hideki cancelled his attack, his arms going back to normal, and turned to the upperclassman. "Why did you do that?? We almost ha-NNG!" He began saying, before he was suddenly grabbed by something. The sudden pull came from Tomoyo, who was trying to stop Hideki from acting even more recklessly. It may have caused him to drop the hook, but he didn't care at that point, his own skills were capable of melting the thing anyway. "Tomoyo, let me go! We must keep fighting!" He tried shaking to get her to let him go, but with Miharu trying to help her, it made it more complicated for Hideki. At that moment, his mind was racing, confusion and anger flowing across his mind as he failed to understand why were they stopping him. They were the enemy, and they wouldn't stop, so why should he? Could it be that the girls are also the enemy? Everything so far was rather too coincidental after all. And when Miharu spoke up, he turned to her again, ready to say something rather harsh to get her and Tomoyo to back off. "Don't make excuses for what they did to you! They must pay! They mus-" However, we stopped himself midsentence, as his mind registered her words. But he already heard her, why was it now regis-"AAGGH" Suddenly, Hideki made a violent jolt, as he suddenly felt a massive headache. He didn't understand why, but there was something about her words that caused him to have such a violent reaction. Sweatdrops were beginning to form on his forehead, as Hideki let out a scream of pain. It didn't last long, but to him it felt like a while, as the pain suddenly disappeared, his head hanging in pain. If anyone were to notice, they'd see that the mask he was wearing suddenly 'burned up', as if it was burned away from his face, leaving not a single trace that it was ever there. His irises were shaking, flashing between red, orange and golden, until it settled back to orange. He panted exhausted as he looked around, as if he was lost child. "W..." |

Behind them, six figures in black hoods blocked the alleyway entrance. Men and women -- each taller and more athletic than the persona users they were blocking in -- formed a line, blocking them in. They brandished collapsible batons and knives, the concealable weapons favored by the group. It was more than a little ominous: Here were another six, identical to the six who they had just fought and driven off, almost like those same people returned, whole and uninjured, back for another round. The persona users, on the other hand, were injured and low on energy. Struggling with the strain of sustained combat. In short, it looked bad. The deep roar of an engine filled the air. Chirp: "Incoming!" The black hoods scattered as a van -- similar in make to the one that Hideki had destroyed just now, but an older model and looking as if it had been freshly repaired from the uneven paint job -- plowed into the space where they had been, and stopped. A woman in a rust-red sweatshirt with several long, vicious tears in it that had been crudely stitched shut, climbed across the middle of the van and emerged from the passenger side door. She was wearing a mask over the lower half of her face, seemingly made of stone and affixed in place by unknown means. With one hand she opened the back door, revealing a largely empty interior with a sleeping bag rolled up. In her other hand, she held a shotgun -- which, while not as rare as a handgun, being legal for hunting purposes, was still an unexpected addition to the situation -- which she cocked, apparently attempting to use the sound as an intimidation tool. One of the black hoods lunged at her, preparing to stab her with the knife he held. She turned, placing the bore of the gun right in his face, but did not fire. Her aim was slightly unsteady, because she was supporting the barrel with her left forearm instead of her left hand. With that hand, she snapped her fingers at the three young persona users and pointed at the door of the van. On the opposite side of the open door, a slightly glowing figure of a woman with slate-gray skin appeared, a long, straight-bladed sword held in her hands. It floated in midair, unmoving but ready. * * * * * (Somewhat earlier that day) Atsuko forked over the cash for the repairs. It wasn't cheap, but it was nowhere near as expensive as the quick turnaround meant it should be. It was a major bite into her savings, but she was glad to have her van back: she had the basement "suite" in her parents house, but the van was the only place that was actually hers. The only place she had any amount of privacy. She was going to take this last day of freedom and go up to the ruins in her own van, and she was going to kill some monsters. She had all of her gear in a duffle bag, which made the bus ride awkward. She was carrying some things in there that would raise more than a few questions. And given the job she was starting soon, she was going to need to go and sit in it and smoke a cigarette every now and then. She was glad to get away from the Ichiban Brother's Garage. There was no need for her to linger around here and possibly get caught by someone who knew too much. After she paid, she climbed in and drove off. Then she remembered she had her old radio in the glove compartment. The one she had used to hear order when in the middle of an operation. That could be useful, if it still had juice. She pulled over, pulled it out, and flipped the switch. "...entrance off Kawakami Street. Provide pressure from behind." Oh, shit. She sat, with one hand white-knuckled on the steering wheel, staring off down the empty street. Everything seemed so calm. Everything seemed simple and peaceful. Why did she have to do that now. Why did she -- This could blow her cover if she got involved. It would also mean leaving someone to die if she didn't. It took her only a moment to decide. She got her things out of the duffle, put on her bleach-rusted ex-black hood sweatshirt, put her shotgun on the passenger seat, and summoned her mask. This was probably the dumbest decision she had made in a while, but she felt sick at the thought of letting this continue. |
