Feeling the coast was finally clear, Miharu shakily lowered her hands. Both the cold and the tiny fresh cuts in her skin stung. Had it not been for the cardigan she was wearing, she assumed she would have rendered even more cuts from the glass, but that was the least of her worries now. Hideki managed to answer back which meant for the most part he was okay. He asked what had happened.

"I...I don't know!" Miharu said shakily. She picked herself as quickly as possible, sore as the fall made her, and moved over to Hideki.

"Tachibana-san, are you alright?" she asked.

He didn't seem injured, but he did look pale. Alarms were going off in her head. Miharu didn't feel it was safe to stick around and wait for any more bottles to fall.

"Tachibana-san, we need to get out of here," she said urgently. "It doesn't feel--"

A strange metallic voice spoke. It sounded computerized or maybe the way a robot or a voice filter would make one sound. Before Miharu could even start to comprehend what it was saying, a large figure appeared holding a strange staff with a hook. It seemed to be a man wearing a black hood and--

From there, things happened too fast. The hook the man had swiped at Hideki in an attempt to snatch him. Miharu had tried to reach out and pull Hideki back.

"TACHIBANA-SAN!" she screamed.

But just as she screamed, another bottle made contact with her. This time the glass, water, and dry ice sprayed directly at her face and gave her no time block. It was so sudden she didn't even have the time to scream.

With that said, the attack knocked her back against the ground. Glass bits and water dotting the asphalt surrounding her and Miharu was face flat on the ground wincing in pain, but unable to utter anything.

Feeling completely taken aback from the scene, Hideki shaked his left arm franctically, trying to get the bit of glass away, as he turned his head away to avoid any of them flying towards it. Thankfully he didn't get a big chunk of glass stuck, or had a very grisly cut, but he still had many cuts in it, and only a few shards managed to get out. But the sting from his arm growing cold was still the biggest pain, all thanks to his own weakness to ice.

And then, as he tried to get up, he turned back to Miharu. "A-Ah, I'm fine!" He said, clearly lying through his teeth. "Yeah, we must get outta here!" But before he could do anything, a strange voice was heard, one that was very distorted, and the only thing he could hear was 'plan'.

Plan? What plan?

"BOY, BEHIND YOU!"

But before Hideki could react in time, he felt another sharp pain in his body, causing him to let out a loud scream. This time, it came from his midsection, and as he looked down to see it, he saw that there was a strange hook around him, with the tip piercing through his shirt. And from it, he saw that a small circle of red was beginning to form.

This was really bad.

He turned back to Miharu, who was crying out his name. Which was followed with him looking above her, and seeing a bottle falling towards her. "SENPAI!!" He yelled, extending his right arm towards her, which was in vain, as the bottle managed to hit. "HOLD ON, I'LL-NNGGH!" His words were interrupted as he felt a tug from the hook, causing him to sit down, as his body was beginning to move back, the hook pressing his wound.

His mind began racing as he was no idea what was happening, and why they were suddenly attacked. This couldn't just be some robbery, this was something worse, it was like they were actively trying to dispose of them. His head turned to whoever was pulling, unable to get a good look, and then down to the hook. Trying to get the hook off would be difficult, as he felt it was hooked by his skin. Buy somehow he had to get it off of him.

And then, he had an idea. A very, very dangerous idea.

Outside of these mysterious assailants, they seemed to be alone, which allowed Hideki to do something desperate. Turning his body a bit, he placed his right hand into the pole of the hook, and began imbuing it with Agi, causing small bits of flame appearing across his hand. The idea would be to heat up the pole as much as possible, hoping that the transmission of heat would cause the person to let it go, or in the best case scenario, burn the material away.

That is, if the idea works. He wasn't good at making up ideas on the spot.

The improvised man catcher pole had a wooden handle, which began to smolder with the application of agi. Still, the black hold holding it was partially protected by the gloves they wore, and continued to pull. It was entirely possible that Hideki might be able to catch himself on the door, but the black hood was a full-grown adult, and seemed to have been chosen for this job based on his strength. Without some kind of leverage, Hideki might very well be dragged into the darkened office from which their assailant had emerged, which might very well be a death sentence.

The other black hood on the roof, the one who was still holding a dry-ice bomb, felt it begin to vibrate in his hands, and decided he didn't want to risk holding it any longer, and threw it. This one struck the ground, seemed to bounce once and then exploded immediately, sending glass, ice, and water in every direction. The black hood who was pulling on the mancatcher grunted and jerked back, a bit of blood welling up from several small cuts on his legs, blood staining his jeans.

The two on the roof retreated from view, either quickly moving to assemble more of their munitions, or to join their compatriot by the front door.

Hearing Hideki yell, Miharu tried to move, but stiffened the moment she had tried to. Glass bits were digging into her palms and the sharp slivers of pain from the cuts on her face, neck, and arms from the impact were keeping her from trying to move again.

"T-Tachibana-san--" she stammered.

If she didn't get up now, who knows what was going to happen to him. Despite being in a daze, she forced herself to focus and willed a Dia spell over most of her cuts. Even if she didn't fully recover, it was enough for her to quickly push herself back up.

Wrong move.

The moment she did, dizziness hit her hard and she struggled staying on her feet.

"L-Leave...LEAVE HIM ALONE!" she screamed.

The second dry ice bomb shattered on the ground next to her and glass sprayed everywhere again. Miharu suppressed a shriek and this time guarded. This time the glass hit mostly her legs and as she was wearing a dress and stockings, there wasn't much protection there, and even more cuts formed. If this kept up, she'd look like her grandmother had given her the whipping of a lifetime.

The shock of the second dry ice bomb managed to wake her up from her little daze from the last attack. She could feel adrenaline rushing through her. Seeing the man with the strange hook thing temporarily taken aback, she willed her hand to try and force a Garu in his direction. Granted, it was not a strong attack to begin with and was even weaker without using her Persona, but perhaps it would give time to pull Hideki away.

The other Black Hood members were heading down as well and Miharu realized she was going to be outnumbered. The area was empty and no one seemed to be around, but Miharu screamed anyways.

"HELP! SOMEBODY HELP US!"

A passerby, a driver, someone taking out the trash, anyone who could maybe call for help or the police or temporarily distract these thugs.

Music blared through Tomoyo's headphones as wandered around the alleyways in the backstreets and fished through the dumpster. While she often would look for things at garage sales or surplus stores, sometimes she'd find something nice to restore or turn into a new art project.

"There's an old radio here, but there's no way I can turn that into anything cute or even useful," she mumbled.

So the good news was that the pole was getting affected by the fire. The bad news was that it wasn't neraly as effective as Hideki thought. The worse news was that the tugging was really hurting, and if he didn't do something he'd probably end up with a nasty scar at the side of his abdomen. Then again, a rugged look would probably improve his overall looks.

Miharu was screaming in the background, and it definitely didn't help Hideki feel better. Seeing his friend getting hurt while he couldn't do anything made him feel helpless and terrified, not to mention the pain itself of the hook was beginning to moist his eyes. He really needed to break free and take Miharu out, but he had no idea how, all he could do at the moment was try to keep the heat up and smolder the pole until it breaks.

"you must use me."

"No! That's too dangerous!"

"BOY, THEY CLEARLY WANT YOU TWO DEAD!"

As Agni tried to convince Hideki to not be an idiot, Miharu shot a gust of Garu at the source of his tugging. For a moment he thought that that'd help him, as he continued his work to break the pole. But before he knew it, the tugging continued, causing him to jerk his body out of surprise. When he looked at the source, he noticed how he was being dragged to a building.

"LOOK AT THE GIRL, SHE'S FIGHTING, WHY NOT YOU?" Agni asked, with clear indignation in his voice. Hideki turned his head around, looking at both Miharu and the approaching building. Should he risk someone seeing him just to try to save himself? He wouldn't wanna be known as the kid with the weird indian god.

He'd soon figure out the answer, as soon as another tug made him reach the doorway of the building. "AAH! OKAY OKAY DO SOMETHING!" Hideki said desperately, as he grabbed the door to avoid getting tugged any further, his mask suddenly appearing in his eyes. It was then when Agni was called forth, and casted an Agi to strike the burnt section of the pole at point blank.

The assailant with the man-catcher pole stumbled back from the Garu, falling off-balance, but didn't actually fall until the agi hit his weapon. The pole of his weapon, likewise, held until Hideki's attack struck. It splintered, the hook coming off and a smoldering brand of fire staying in his hands. The attacker fell back down, but didn't get back up immediately. The radio on his chest was warped from proximity to the heat, and emitted a quacking noise that indicated that the person on the other end was talking, but it wasn't intelligible speech.

The other two black hoods, however, marched down into the office and then came out swinging: one with a baton was coming at Hideki, while the other one was lunging towards Miharu, brandishing a large pocket knife. As they came out into the sunlight, it was clear that these were, indeed, the black hoods. Both wore hooded sweatshirts, and had red bandanas stretched across the lower halves of their faces. Their eyes looked almost as frightened as they did angry, and their desperation showed in their manner of attack.

Miharu's cries didn't bring anyone out into the street, but it seemed as if someone on the second floor of the facing side of the street might be peering out at them, looking at the goings-on.

The Garu had been successful to a slight degree. It had distracted the large man and gave Hideki time to break free. She was surprised when Hideki summoned his Persona, but she realized this was not without proper reason. Initially, Miharu hadn't understood why the people were attacking them. She had assumed they were normal thugs, but it had become apparent that they were not after money or anything for that matter. In fact, she had only come to the conclusion as to who they were when she finally paid more attention to their attire.

While Miharu had heard of the Black Hoods, she had never had any encounters with them and had almost assumed they were no longer active. But now that they were here...did that mean they were here to--

She had no time to finish her thoughts. One of the Black Hoods charged towards her with a knife. Remembering all the times the Demented Puppet had come at her with their little steak knives, Miharu darted to the right, but not without receiving a gash on her right upper arm. This time she held back a yelp and responded by channeling a small blast of water at the assailant through her Aqua spell. It definitely wasn't going to be enough to damage the person, but hopefully the spray of water would hit his face and stun him just long enough for her to summon her Persona.

"Stay away!" she shouted.

Even if she and Hideki had their Personas, Miharu had a feeling these people had more than a few tricks up their sleeves. Not to mention it would not do any good burning them to ashes. Once they had the moment, she and Hideki had to run.

Luckily, the Agi was more effective than Hideki thought, as it managed to break the pole completely. While the pain itself didn't disappear, it was certainly a relief not feeling like he was getting tugged like a piece of meat. Immediatelly, he saw how the hook was still attached to him, and decided he needed to take it out. Taking a deep breath, he held the wooden end of the hook, and pulled if out of his skin.

"NNNNNGGHH!" It was a pain getting the hook off, but at least it was accomplished without much difficulty. Holding the hook with one hand, he looked at the side of his body, and noticed the wound through a hole the hook made in his shirt. It really didn't look good.

But now, he needed to get out and assist Miharu. And also get the package, which was still on the floor. "Senpai!" He called out, as he made his way towards her, before listening the sound of footsteps coming towards them. Turning around, he saw that the people trying to attack them were coming towards them. It was then when he realized that these were ordinary thugs. The outfits not only were very similar, but they placed a lot on emphasis on dark looking hoods.

"THE BLACK HOODS!"

Agni's voice was fueled with rage, and to some extent, a bit of enthusiasm, a fact that only Hideki could notice, as he didn't know if made him feel better or worse. Whatever the case, he knew that this meant more than trouble. These people wanted them dead.

And they made it clear, as a couple of Hoods came out. He didn't want to fight them, but they were going to give them leeway, so if anything, he needed to defend himself. At the very least, he needed to make sure he wasn't hit, even if his left arm was beginning to recover from the cold attack, as he still had a few open wounds from the glass and the hook. With his mask still on his face, Hideki casted a Sukukaja on himself, increasing his overall agility.

As the baton Hood was about to strike him, Hideki crouched down, attempting to avoid the hit, as he placed the hook around the Hood's angle, and pulled it, seeking to throw him off balance. He wasn't sure what he wanted to accomplish, but he needed to do something, and his spells were far too damaging, even the Hama.

The knife-man was thrown off-balance by the blast of water, but didn't actually fall. He did, however, miss by a mile, moving past Miharu and turning to come at her from the opposite direction, away from the door, almost as if herding her back towards it. Still, while he was lightning-quick on adopting a defensive posture he was slow to actually press his attack.

A van drove by, pulling in to an alleyway and parking.

The one with the baton was pulled off balance, but did not fall. The hook did catch on the heavy denim of his jeans, and there was a slight trickle of blood from a scratch on his leg. He reoriented himself and pressed his attack, trying to drive Hideki back, away from the other melee. Wit his enhanced reflexes, it would be relatively easy for him to avoid the attacks.

And the one who had fallen down, within the darkened office? He stood back up, clutching the length of burning wood in his gloved hand. He pushed out the door, accidentally jamming it open, and lunged for Miharu, striking at her from behind with the smoldering brand. He held the ruined weapon like a spear, jabbing at the center of her mass with the broken tip of it.

Down the block, from the same alleyway the van had gone in to, a trio more of dark-clothed figures appeared: the enemy reinforcements mentioned earlier.

Fortunately for Miharu, spell managed to shift her assailant in another direction. It gave her enough time to summon her mask before she realized the same person was heading towards her again. Hideki was fighting his own battle, but he seemed to be refraining from using his Persona from injuring the Black Hoods. She supposed even a weak spell was enough to injure them.

She was about to put her mask on, but just as it was about to come into contact with her face, a blunt, narrow, and somewhat hot object jabbed at her from behind, causing her to fall forward and land once again on the sharp glass everywhere. This time, Miharu hadn't fallen flat on the ground. The push had caused her to grind against the asphalt and glass too. She had let out a sharp yelp before trying to force herself back up, but this time a shard had managed to dig into skin of leg. As she tried to get up she screamed and dropped back down.

Unable to get up, she could see in the distance even more Black Hoods arriving.

"T-Tachibana-san!" she said. "There's more!"

"Okay, a few old clothes, stuffed toys...some pretty fabrics that could use a good scrubbing..." Tomoyo said as she checked her scavenged goods. "I say today was a good trashpicking day."

Tomoyo had stuffed her salvaged items into a brown sling over bag and started to head out the alleyway to turn into the streets. Music was still blaring in her eyes and she whistled happily to the tune of it.
