Miharu pinched her chin thoughtfully when Hideki mentioned the backstreets. Normally, the backstreets had a less than remarkable reputation for being dangerous, so she could understand if Hideki felt nervous. Miharu had been in the place herself when her grandmother rented a beat-up albeit large traditional house and her memories of that place were not fond ones.

"I think it's strange that you didn't receive a name for whom you're supposed to deliver that to," she said. "Did they at least give any landmarks or a place where you're supposed to meet up with the receiver? And if it makes you feel better, I used to stay in the backstreets neighborhood before so hopefully my memory can jog up some familiar pathways and routes."

Hideki then asked about the contents of Miharu's notebook. The girl flinched and her face reddened while she reflexively clutched the notebook even tighter.

"O-oh, nothing, really!" she said. "It's just...notes...from lessons and stuff. They're bad, that's all I can tell you."

There went forgetting about how bad her English was.

"That's the weird thing, we don't have anything outside of a mere direction." He said, and then stated where he needed to go, as he was only given the address verbally. "I don't tend to traverse the backstreets a lot, so at least having you as a guide will help." After all, the quicker they can get the delivery, the less of a reason Noriko would have to be grumpy.

Unless she was timing him. Which she probably was.

And then she stated what her notebook was about. "Notes? Oh boy, let me guess, is it school stuff? I can't begin to tell you how hard things suddenly became when I reached the second year!" He said, doing a small, nervous chuckle. Yeah, probably harder than he anticipated.

Miharu scratched her head.

"Well, I'll try my best," she said. "Albeit, I can't say I went around the backstreets too much. I often went around her by car."

She laughed nervously at Hideki's remark on the notes being school stuff and glanced sideways with unease.

"Err...sorta," she said. "Though, they're more of extra lessons with my godmother. I guess you could say she's tutoring me. Anyways..."

Miharu glanced around. She had been too distracted talking to Hideki to really notice where they had stumbled off to. She pinched her chin.

"Seems we've reached the backstreets one way or another," she said. "Though...I don't remember this area too much in particular. What direction are we supposed to be taking, anyways?"

The trek continued as the two of them walked the sidewalks of Nagashima. At least the company was helping Hideki feel a bit more at ease about his situation, since he wasn't worrying about the lives that would be at stake now that there was one less User patrolling the Ruins. "Oooh, wait, you are having issue with school?" He didn't peg Miharu as a brainiac, but he felt she'd probably be smart enough, maybe more than him. Or maybe her godmother wanted nothing but perfection?

If that were to be the case, at least she'd be able to relate with him and Noriko's work ethics.

However, the walk would eventually stop, as Miharu began asking about the area they were. Hideki looked around and realized that this... Was a bit unfamiliar. They were in the middle of a long street, with various offices surrounding him, and with not a single person close by.

It felt a bit eerie.

"Eer... I, I don't know, actually." He stammered, getting a bit worried. "I'll try to ask Nori-er, my co-worker for help." He said, as he took his phone out, marked her number, and began calling. Should she answer, he'd tell her to repeat the address, as well of informing her of his current location, and any direction he could follow.

His face turned a bit red, as he couldn't believe he would admit to her that he was lost. And in front of Miharu too.

Yes… I’d sell the souls of all humanity to the devil if I thought it’d get us a happy ending.
Noriko was in the middle of finishing a spear shaft as she saw her phone ring from across the forge. Knowing that the sound of work would often be too loud to hear her ringtone, she had selected to instead just have her phone flash rapidly. She didn’t know who the hell would bother to call her during work, but they better have had a good reason. She placed the shaft into the quench bucket and made her way over to her phone, sighing as she saw the name that had popped up on her caller ID.

Tachibana.

She picked up the phone with a gloved hand and answered it, already a bit grumpy from having been interrupted in the middle of her work. “This is Kaneshiro, what’s the matter? Did you already take care of the delivery, Tachibana? Because this better not be a call that you’ve managed to lose it or something…” She couldn’t count anything out of the realm of possibility when she wasn’t handling a delivery herself…

From the roof of the two-story store front office -- it looked to have been a law office at one point, but long ago closed down -- something began to descend. A pair of glass bottles with strings tied around them, knotted tight around their necks. Inside each bottle was a bit of fizzing liquid, and they appeared to be vibrating from more than just the action of being lowered. They stopped about half a meter above the two, suspended in the air.

Through the storefront window, past the slightly ajar door, they might see someone moving in darkness. A brief flicker of black in the gloom.

There was a cracking noise, and then the bottles burst, sending glass shrapnel, crushed dry ice, and water all over the two of them.

Miharu couldn't help but flush and scratch her head when Hideki called Noriko.

"I'm sorry, I must have gotten us lost by accident..." Miharu said sheepishly. "I hope I'm not stalling your delivery or anything..."

Hideki then went on the line with Nori-someone. A person at the metalworks, apparently. Miharu tapped her notebook uneasily. Hopefully they weren't too lost or anything. She sighed. So much for her helping.

Miharu looked around. She didn't feel particularly comfortable being in the backstreets now that she thought of it. This was, after all, the place that people got mugged in, right? Well, probably not all the time, but the backstreets had the reputation, didn't it? It didn't help it was so quiet around here.

On second thought, it wasn't that quiet. Miharu could hear something fizzling or hissing or something. What was that? A bug? A bee? Oh god, please don't let it be a wasp or bee. Miharu was terrified of bugs and--

Almost as she saw the source from above and realized it was not a bug but some thing she couldn't really understand, the bottles burst and caused an explosion.

"AGH!" Miharu screamed, instinctively placing her arms across her face as water splashed them. The impact was enough to push her back and hit the ground. While the water did not necessarily hurt her, bits of glass had managed to spray against her arms and face causing cuts to form on her skin. "Tachibana-san!" she shouted half in help and half to see if were okay.

"Well... Don't worry, Noriko-san. The delivery is still safe, it's just that I'm the one lost, I can't seem to find the address." He probably should have taken the advice she gave him, and set up the GPS in his phone to find it, but he was too busy mulling over an eldritch monster tearing his imparts apart. Looking at one of the signs in the street, Hideki told her his current location, in the hopes of her knowing where to go.

However, this caused him to not look at the bottles descending close to him and Miharu, nor the buzzing that came from them. For a moment, Hideki turned to see Miharu was looking at something, but before he could even inquire, something exploded close to them. "AAGH-" it was the last thing Noriko would hear, as the explosion pushed him back, knocking the phone out of his hand.

Landing on the ground, Hideki felt a sharp pain coming from his body, specially his left arm. As he looked down, he saw that the left side of his body was stained with water, and various bits of glass and ice were sprawled across it. But when he looked at his arm, he gasped in horror, as not only he saw many cuts due to the glass, but his skin looked paler than usual. It felt like he ducked his arm into arctic waters, with all the pain it brought.

But he was more worried about Miharu than himself. "Senpai! What happened!?"

"You... You have your phone. How in the world did you get lost in this day and age, Tachibana?" Noriko asked, nearly incredulous. He did it, he actually did it. He had managed to get lost with the first delivery that she entrusted him with. In a way, it was almost impressive. Almost But instead of being "impressed by his blunder, Noriko pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed over the phone at Hideki. "Alright, alright... Just tell me where you're at, I'm on my way." The aggravation in her voice was unmistakable, especially to the boy that had been working with her for quite a while.

But her tone soon changed as she heard the sound of breaking bottles interrupt their conversation. "Tachibana, what's going on? What was that noise? Did you break something-" But then she heard him cry out in pain, and that was when she shifted from annoyance to concern. The phone made a noise that sounded like it had been dropped, and Noriko began making her way out of the shop as soon as she could. She still took the time to close up properly of course, but she was on her way to the location that Hideki had managed to describe to her.

"You better not have done anything stupid, Tachibana..."

Chirp.

"Reserve one en route. Proceed with plan as established until then." The ominous voice that emerged from the inside of the storefront office had a metallic, duck-like quality. A voice electronically modulated to be unrecognizable. Almost immediately, a large man in jeans and a black hooded sweatshirt emerged. In his hands was a large pole, wrapped in tape for a better grip, terminating in a sharp, extremely curved hook: an improvised man-catcher pole.

With this implement, he attempted to snatch Hideki and drag him in to the office. The exact technique was to slash at Hideki's midsection, attempting to catch it on either the flesh of his middle or on his belt.

On the roof, two other individuals in black hooded sweatshirts stood up, their faces covered in red bandanas. They held glass bottles in their hands, and the first one even threw one directly at Miharu, attempting to drive her away from the capture attempt and injure her in the process. The other one simply stood ready, preparing to throw should the first one not do its job.
