Haru gave Aiko a long look, sympathetic and doubtful. Finally, they relented, frowning with their shoulders slumped. "I still don't think you're right," they insisted, "and that you should ask out your friend and that'll be better in the long run. But I'm not you, and maybe I don't know what's best. I won't push anymore." They looked down at the floor and kicked their feet, like a child who had been scolded. "I'm sorry I made you dwell on this," they apologized. "I just hate seeing people so sad." |

Yes… I’d sell the souls of all humanity to the devil if I thought it’d get us a happy ending.

“It’s fine, Amachi-san. It’s fine…” Aiko took a steadying breath and sat up in her seat properly as she looked at Haru. Even if they… kinda awoke a panic attack in her, Haru sort of did do it for the right reasons. She couldn’t fight the reality that she actually loved Sandra any longer, but any sort of acting on it was entirely out of her reality. No amount of innocent but misplaced charity was going to help that. “Truth be told I’d… already been dwelling on it before you brought it up. Kinda been dwelling on it for quite a while. It’s just different when someone else brings it up, I guess.” Aiko pulled out her phone to check the time and saw that she still had a little bit of time left to burn before she had to clock in. It was then that she decided to at least try to take a small bit of Haru’s advice. “Listen… You work in a library, do you know about any books around that are about how to ask out your best friend or something? Or just- I don’t know romance stuff in general? Maybe I’ll change my mind if I can get a better understanding about all this crap.” She at least had a library card already from a report she did back in her first year. The fact that she hadn’t used it since then wasn’t important, however. |

Haru's sorrowful expression was wiped away once Aiko asked where the books on romance were. "Oh! Oh! I know that for sure! They're, uh... here, follow me," they exclaimed, jumping up out of the chair and exiting the private study room. They led Aiko to the romance fiction section and began pointing out books seemingly at random. "Oh, this one's a childhood friends story, and - and this one's about forbidden love! Ooh, this one over here was really good, also this one made me cry. Oh, this one's by one of my favorite authors! I've read all her books, and - ooh, ooh, this one over here is really good: it's about two people already dating that have to work through some stuff, and - ! Ooooooh, this one is..." They went on and on, as if they had read the entire shelf. |

Yeah, that's sure some boundless energy they've got there. Like the Mason-san of romance, yikes... Aiko got up and trudged along with Haru towards whatever section of the library they were bringing her to. She certainly didn't have any parts memorized in the slightest, so she rightfully trusted in the powers of whoever actually worked in the place. Which was pretty useful because libraries have a lot of sections holy crap. It was almost as topsy turvy as the Ruins were. At least to her. Once they reached their destination however, Haru started pointing out things rapid-fire, almost too fast for Aiko to even keep up as she tried to memorize placements and titles. "I don't... we're not childhood friends we just met this year. I mean, okay 'forbidden romance' might work but-Hey Amachi-san I don't want to cry over this stuff- Hey I need to focus on being in a relationship before I start starting a story of one in the middle!" It was a whirlwind of recommendations and enthusiasm and boy oh boy was Aiko not entirely prepared for it. It was almost like Haru liked romance stuff as much as she liked horror stuff and... Oh. It was then and there that Aiko knew that she could trust Haru's judgement on these things. "Yeah, alright. I'll take the 'forbidden romance' thing you pointed out. Probably the best start for me at the moment, really." |

Like a puppy who had run too fast and couldn't stop their own momentum, the recommendations kept coming for a bit before Haru caught that Aiko had asked for one of the books already. "Oh man, and in this one, one of them is an alien, and the alien leader doesn't approve, and - ooh, ooh, ooooh, this one's a space opera, and halfway through the book there's this really great scene where - oh. Wait, the forbidden love one, you said?" They stopped and scanned the bookshelf again, looking for the book in question. "Ah! Right!" They plucked the book off the shelf and handed it to Aiko. "This one's really good! The author has this weird, terse-kinda writing style that might be kind of offputting but it all ties into this one character's - oh, uh, I shouldn't say anything - oh, wait!" They went back to the bookshelf. "If you're looking for stuff like that, there's this one, and this one, and..." As Haru continued digging through recommendations, they passed right over a book on the edge of the shelf, closer to Aiko. The label on its spine said, "HOW TO DATE YOUR BEST FRIEND," and it appeared to be a relatively recent work. |

Oh god no please stop... Aiko silently pleaded. There's no way that I can take this much romance at one time. I didn't even care for the stuff until recently and- "...Amachi-san, I'm not an alien. I mean... I guess Sandra-chan is kinda an alien in a way but then who would the alien leader be in that... Wait nevermind what am I even saying here?" Aiko shook her head slightly as both she and Haru reached an understanding about the kinds of books that she wanted, and things could be a little less confusing than normal. It was a welcome change. "Thanks..." She took the book that was handed to her and held it under her arm as the librarian she had spilled her guts too seemed to begin rattling off even more book titles that she had no real idea about. But as they passed over the rows of books, Aiko's eyes caught hold of another book that had quite the... straightforward title. "'HOW TO DATE YOUR BEST FRIEND' huh? Wonder what that one's about?" she said to herself sarcastically. Still... She was already locked in to pusuing this course of action, what hurt could a little more help be? She stared at the spine of the book for several seconds before she reached out and pulled it from the shelves as well, tucking it beside the one Haru recommended to her. "Actually Amachi-san, I think I got all I need right now. I'll go ahead and get these checked out and head into work. I'm uh... still not sure if I should thank you or not yet but... Thanks anyway. I guess." |

"Oh, can I be the alien leader? I've always wanted to - oh, hey, what's that?" Haru looked over the incredibly-convenient book Aiko pulled out, blinking in dull surprise. "Oh. Huh. Well, that's helpful." It looked like everything was wrapping up. Haru smiled softly. "You don't have to thank me - I think I said some stuff I maybe shouldn't have. Good luck with everything, though! Remember to put your own happiness first." |

"Why would you want to be an alien leade-Okay never mind. I'm going to stop asking these kinds of questions, seriously..." In a way, Haru was precious. They were full of energy and enthusiasm, and that was to be respected. Now if only they kind of channeled that into... Less traumatizing experiences for Aiko, she'd be happy. But then they also caught wind of the book that Aiko was trying to sneak out, and that sure made things a little bit more awkward. At least for her. "I uh... I thought it might help a bit with the whole... W-well you know I uh, thought 'why not get all the help I can' for this whole thing, right?" Granted, it'd have to be a book that she hid at all times just because the freakin' cover left nothing to the imagination, but there was a chance that she could get something out of it... right? She let out a sigh as she prepared to get the books checked out, and Haru seemed ready to give some parting thoughts. "I mean... I certainly wasn't expecting you to say any of that, so I probably reacted kinda... harshly. You at least got me moving in some kind of direction, at least. Although I guess only time will tell if it was better than sitting here spinning my wheels, y'know?" 'Put my happiness first', not like that's ever been a real problem before... Guess the only time it was when all of... this started. Of course... I got my own reasons for this too... "I'll catch you later, Amachi-san. Thanks for helping a girl out, even if I didn't seem to want it at first" she said with a small grin. |
