Haru blinked, realizing that they had been so focused on Aiko's face that they hadn't realized they were asking all these questions out in the open. To be fair, it really just sounded like they were talking about a video game or something. "Oh, right, uh... here, let's go into one of the private study rooms. No one should be able to hear us in there - or at least, no one will pay attention."

The private study rooms were on the west wall, and as Haru led Aiko there, they continued thinking about what was up. Aiko was distracted about something. She was 'going through some stuff.' Also, she was a teenage girl. It wasn't persona related, probably, since they had already been talking about personas. If it was something really bad, like family illness or death, Aiko wouldn't be quite so cheery, or even out in public.

That really just left one option.

(It left multiple options, but this one was the most likely. Haru was just playing the numbers game, really.)

Haru stopped in their tracks right in front of the private study room and clapped the bottom of their fist against their open palm. They turned to Aiko, pointed, and whispered triumphantly, "You're in love!"

"Private study rooms, yeah. Sounds good... And like something that I'd never use. Probably why I didn't know that they existed in the first place, huh?" Aiko said jokingly. Good to place to have such a thing, though. Libraries are quiet, people that want to study like the quiet; it all fit. Not to mention it'd be a great place for two persona users to discuss the finer workings of the world that they were a part of. "Lead the way, bookish one."

Aiko was more than happy to follow Haru to the study room... or so she thought. Because as soon as she got close to the door, Haru turned around like some kind of TV detective and blurted out-Oh hell to the no. The short-haired girl's heart sunk into the pit of her stomach as they uttered those three simple words. She stared at Haru with wide eyes for several seconds... Until she grabbed Haru by the arm and dragged them into the study room. The door was shut quickly behind the two, and she held Haru by the shoulders.

"I freakin' knew it, you can read minds! Listen, I didn't mean to think about her, I was trying not to! You can't tell a soul about Sandra-chan, alright? She'd freakin' kill me if I-You didn't see the-Those blindfolds-" The girl's cheeks were burning as she started to babble almost incoherently at Haru. It seemed they... kind of hit a sore spot by accident. And a rather big one at that.

Oh gosh, they were right! Aiko was totally in love! Haru could tell by the way she froze up then pulled them into the study room. Despite having been manhandled into the room, Haru had a wide, stupid grin on their face when Aiko put her hands on their shoulders. It only widened as Aiko began babbling, and wow, she had it really bad.

"Relax, relax, I won't tell anyone! It's good to have a few secrets, right?" Haru winked. "And I can't read minds, it was just written all over your face." It really wasn't, but saying that made Haru feel a lot smarter. "So who is it? Sandra-chan? Is she a foreigner?"

“Yes! Secret! Going to keep all of this a secret!” Aiko half-shouted as she pointed at Haru. A quick look back at the study room door to make sure it was shut and she finally let go of their shoulders. “Not a soul can know about… All of those things that I just said because I ramble when I’m nervous.” Aiko rubbed her temples as she tried to relax and get her mind back into order. Alright, so they’re not psychic. I still… kinda incriminated myself from what I shouted. Ugh. Still, it was going to be a secret. She had to find some solace in that. Not like she shouted that out among the more open part of the library…

Read it all over my face, huh? Time to get rid of that ol’ pesky thing huh? Still, she sighed as she tried to have a rational talk with Haru. Who kept trying to push for more info about who she was… in love with. “Hey hey hey, let’s drop the whole ‘in love’ thing. I’m totally not in love with anyone or anything, okay? Totally… totally not.” Totally lying, more like it. “Sandra-chan is definitely a foreigner yeah, but let’s keep her out of this. We were talking about Persona stuff, not my good friend that I totally didn’t mean to feel up- I’m rambling again.” She shut her mouth tightly for a few seconds to compose herself once again. A few breaths out of her nose and she was good to go again.

“Alright, listen. I’m willing to put this entire past conversation behind me now. Let’s just… Let’s just focus on talking about the ruins and Bedlam and everything, okay? Where did I even leave off before we came here anyway?” The blush was starting to fade from her cheeks as she put the love talk behind her, but it was still a bit noticeable. And boy did she not want it to be.

Haru was definitely about to drop the subject, as per Aiko's request, when a bomb was dropped amidst all the rambling. Their eyes widened, and they exclaimed, "Whoa! You felt her up? That's bold!"

They brought a hand up to their mouth, covering it, and then shook their head. "Okay, okay," Haru said, holding up their hands as a gesture of surrender. "No more love talk. Even though you... really clearly seem to be in love. If you don't wanna talk about it, that's cool. Uh. What were we talking about?"

They stopped for a moment, scratching their chin. "Other than love, I mean. Wow, that must be exciting..." They were really stuck on this subject.

"Amachi-san!" Aiko exclaimed as her face lit up like a stoplight. "C'mon, that was an accident! And I'm trying real hard to stop worrying about it, okay? I even only worked up the courage to talk to Sandra-chan about it and yeah see seemed fine with it but I'm still gonna worry about it a bit, because c'mon that was not okay to-Oh god I just can't stop talking, why are we still on this?" The girl practically fell onto one of the chairs and held her head in her hands. "No one was supposed to knooooow..." Yet here she was, trying to have to manually steer the SS Haru away from running into another Love Iceberg.

"I don't... I mean c'mon I don't really look that much in love or anything, do I? Is it that easy to tell? God I hope not because I spent an entire afternoon talking to Sandra-chan about this and if I'm that easy to read I..." Aiko let out an exasperated noise as she shook her head. "Okay, know what? Doesn't matter. I don't need to worry about looking like I'm in love because that's something I... can't afford to be so from here on out things are going to just be normal. Yep, totally normal Aiko just being totally normal and fine."

Boy she sure wished that self-speech made her as confident as she wanted to sound.

"Listen we were... We were talking about the different kinds of Persona users we got around here, okay? Can we... Can we please focus back on that for the conversation? That's a whole lot more important than my nonexistent love life, believe me."

Haru shook their head. "Nope, it wasn't easy to tell at all!" They sat in one of the chairs around the small table in the private study room. "Actually..." They pulled their feet up onto the chair, gripping it with their hands to stay balanced. Grinning widely and feeling very proud of themselves, they pointed a finger upwards and announced, "I just took a wild guess! Turns out it worked!"

The next part of Aiko's retort wiped the happy look off of Haru's face - they looked appalled, horrified almost, at what she said. They were seemingly shocked into silence until Aiko tried to changed the subject, at which point Haru slapped the table with their palms. "No way!"

They began to go on a tirade - not angry, but passionate. "Of course you can afford to be in love! Being in love is normal, Wakakobayagi-san! Being in love is... it's... it's the most important thing! It's like the apex of emotion! It's love! It's way more important than ghost-head-monster-things!" They frowned and shook their head. "It's fine if you really don't want to talk about it, but you should never downplay your own feelings! That's not nice to you and it's not nice to Sandra-chan, either."

Haru's answer didn't exactly help Aiko one bit. "Oh... So I spilled my guts to you on a lucky guess. Yeah I feel tons better." She let out a defeated noise and slumped forward onto the table, looking up at Haru with her chin resting on the surface. At least one of us is having a good time with this... I just wish that it was me, but nooooo....

What Haru said next though caught Aiko by surprise in a totally different way. Despite their playful nature about the whole thing, Haru seemed to be pretty damn passionate about love in general. ...Also they couldn't seem to get Aiko's name right either, but that was beside the point. Still, the fact that they were constantly pushing the fact that it was okay for her to be in love with Sandra was... It was something that was making her just so... "Amachi-san, p-please..." Aiko finally manage to sputter out after Haru finished expounding upon the wonders of love.

"It's... It's not that simple. I couldn't possibly-You don't know what I've had to deal with. To... want something that you can't have. To be afraid of wanting something that you can never get again. That old saying is completely wrong, having loved and lost is way worse. It's something that keeps coming back to bit you every time you... you get close to it again. So Sandra-chan is just going to remain my friend for now. It's a lot hard for me to screw that up. Even if I... almost already did already." Aiko'd say with a sigh as she buried her face in her hands.

It wasn't really that Aiko had spilled her guts to Haru: it was more like Haru had gutted Aiko. That sounded gross, though, and the conversation moved on fairly quickly from there, so Haru put the thought aside for the moment.

Haru's passionate expression faded as Aiko really did spill her guts out. Nooo, they thought before considering, nooo again. Their head was filled with a lot of 'nooo's and 'oh no I messed up's and 'aaaa's and it was making it really hard to think of a proper response.

"But that's not helping either," Haru said, more gently this time around. "It's going to hurt you either way, so why not go with the option that could give you some closure? Everyone wants things they can't have, but that shouldn't stop them from trying. Sometimes it's easier than you think." They paused, then added, "Also, from the stuff I read on that forum, having leaky emotions as a persona user is apparently a bad thing." They kicked their feet back and forth, frowning. "Which, I guess, is another motivator. But you should still be doing this for yourself!"

Haru smiled again, wide and encouraging. "Anyway, I'm not trying to pressure you immediately, but I think it's always better to say something! I believe you can do it."

"Please... I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't. I can't make a right move here, Amachi-san. I've been in this place before, and the last time I ended up breaking my heart. I took... years, to get back to where I could feel like I could like someone again. I had flings, been with guys I didn't really like but just wanted someone's company... And now I-" Aiko rubbed the corners of her eyes and leaned back in her seat, the ceiling the object of her gaze for a long while. "Now I got it bad. Fine, I'll admit it. Yeah, sure, I'm in love. Fine!"

Aiko immediately leaned forward in her chair and planted her palms on the table. "But what's that going to change? I've already made it clear to her that I already see her just as a friend, I apologized enough that one afternoon to hammer home that I was just buzzed and made a dumb mistake. That I didn't really mean to... To..." Her head would go back into her hands again and ruffle through her hair as she fought to keep her composure. "I can't... I just can't. So what if having a messed up head is bad for us Persona users? We're already screwed up enough just to have these things."

Even Haru's smile wasn't reassuring enough to calm the storm in Aiko's heart. Sure they were also the reason it was there in the first place but... That went without saying. "All the belief in the world isn't going to help me here, why can't you... why can't you see that?" The short-haired girl gave Haru a tired look as she propped her head up on the table. "All this is gonna do is... just make things even worse."
