Nope, that name definitely didn't sound familiar. Oh well. 'Well, when he finally enters Rokujima, just tell him to look up Higashi Chidori! I can help him study, show him around, beat people up, whatever he needs! 'I've lived here my entire life. I think my dad did too. My mom only came for school but decided to stay and settle down after she met my dad.' And since they were being all small talky... 'If your brother had to transfer in, does that mean your not from around here? Well, I guess he could have transferred from Reitaku...' |

Momo laughed. "Well, I'd prefer if you didn't beat anyone up for him. If he even asks, actually, I'd prefer you beat him up for asking." She smiled to herself, flipping one of the multiple hunks of meat sitting on the grill. "He's a good kid, though, so probably not. I'm Momo Makoto, by the way." It was only polite to give her name after getting this wonderful customer's. (Even if said customer did have strange taste.) Her motion stopped for just a moment as Chidori mentioned she'd lived in Nagashima all her life. She contemplated asking her about the strange going-ons around town, but decided against it. There was a difference between asking an old friend and a random customer, after all. Her own origin came into question, and Momo responded, "Huh? Oh, well, yeah. Our family's originally from Tokyo, actually, but Ryuu and the folks moved to Nagashima when he started high school. I was already in college then, though." It was time to flip the vaguely-chicken-based-mass, and Momo was skeptical it would all stay in one piece. "Mom and dad have moved back, though, and I moved in? Which is sort of we - whoa." It flipped, wobbled a bit, but stayed in one place. Momo sighed in relief; she'd have to let that one cool for a while to set. |

Wait... Her name was Momo? Was that another pun? She didn't really look like she was joking, so it was probably just her name. Weird coincidence, though. Momo explained how she ended up in Nagashima, which was a little confusing. Why would she move in after her parents moved out? And why did they leave their son? Some families were weird. Chidori stopped think9ng about it once Momo managed to flip a barely solid mass of chicken. Impressed, she clapped lightly. She smiled cheerfully. 'Well, I'm glad you decided to live here! Nagashima is a pretty great place, once you get past the strange events and, er... colorful cast.' Seriously, what other city had pirates, ninjas, and Russian terrorists? What a place. |

Everything was done. The ordeal of the burger was over - almost. She still had to construct the damn thing, and it looked like its balance would be... tenuous. Normally, she'd just stick a toothpick through the middle and call it all golden, but frankly, she didn't have a toothpick long enough. Placing the chicken-mass-bun on the bottom of a plate, Momo shrugged and started to build the burger. She could figure that part out in a second. As Momo played architect, she replied, "Aha, yeah, I actually went to high school here, which I... forgot to mention? Sorry, my family moved a lot. Feels like the town's changed a lot since then, though." She raised an eyebrow. "What kinda strange events?" |

The tower was being built. Chidori's mouth began to water as she watched. It was a masterpiece, a triumph of modern culinary arts. The Protein King was nearing completion. She almost didn't notice as Momo began talking again. 'Huh? Oh! Just all the rumors around town. You know the ones about the 'magic people,' or whatever. I mean, I don't believe in them at all, but there are definitely a lot of stories about them. Like, apparently they caused that explosion in the park a couple months ago? Like I said, I don't believe any of it. If there were actually magic people running around causing explosions, I'm pretty sure we'd have a lot more evidence by now.' She scratched her head. 'Well, a more mundane story I heard was of a waffle truck and a syrup truck crashing? But that almost sounds less believable than the magic people thing.' |

Momo listened quietly as Chidori spoke, the majority of her attention on balancing the Protein King. The part about the 'magic people' was interesting. First, Momo had heard monsters, and now magicians? It was like they were living in a fantasy world, only there were cars and burgers and little brothers who needed serious help. "Mmm, well," she replied, "If they really did have magic, then wouldn't they be able to use that magic to hide the evidence?" Oh shit, Momo realized, that's not even wrong. What if there are magic people? Tossing the thought aside as ridiculous for now, Momo gingerly placed the mushroom cap on top of the burger. It was completed: a burger filled to the brim with protein that was also falling over and uh oh. Momo placed a hand on top of the burger, frowning. "Uh." Thinking quickly, she grabbed a pair of wooden take-out chopsticks and split them in half. She reached over and grabbed a chopping knife, hacking off the thick end of one of the chopsticks before jamming it through the middle of the burger as a makeshift balancing mechanism. "Cool. Uh. Burger." She slid the plate over to Chidori. The chef really didn't know if she wanted to stick around and watch her eat the abomination, but part of her couldn't help but be curious. |
