Ah, the long awaited cheat day. One day every two weeks Chidori was allowed to go crazy and eat (almost) whatever she wanted. And this cheat day was going to be incredible. Though she hadn't been to the Peach Grill in a very long time, it was home to one of her favorite dishes: a specialty of the chef's that he had dubbed the Protein King, a triple stacked burger packed with the most delicious muscle-building foods Japan could muster. Chidori had been sure to earn it too; today had been training for the regional meet and she worked her ass off. She ran twice as far, practice free throwing without any breaks, and when she felt like she was at her limit, she just thought of that marvelous burger that was waiting for her, and all of her exhaustion would disappear. Chidori couldn't help but grin as she entered the restaurant. She took a seat at the counter so she could watch her meal be prepared and waited for the chef to appear. |

Momo had a complicated relationship with chairs. On the one hand, sitting down helped her to relax and took the pressure off her feet, and maintaining one's stamina was essential for fine cooking, especially during extended shifts. At the same time, though, becoming too lax led to sloppy work. Not to mention, Momo had worked standing up for so long that something just felt off when she wasn't when she wasn't standing on her own two feet. Chairs were for breaks and home-time, not work, in her mind. Of course, she was sitting on a chair behind the counter anyway today, because no one was coming in. Momo yawned unprofessionally. It was just a slow day, apparently. Just as she was thinking that, of course, someone came in: a young woman who seemed strangely eager to be in the Peach Grill. "Hello," Momo called out, getting up from her chair. "What can I get started for you, today?" |

The person behind the counter was someone Chidori didn't recognize. That was fine. It'd been a while since she'd been here, so they probably hired new people. Chidori smiled up at the chef. 'I already have what I'd like to order! I'd like a Protein King burger with a side of steamed broccoli and a glass of milk!' |

Momo blinked. "A what?" The name sounded familiar. Momo thought back, racking her mind for where she'd heard of a 'protein king burger.' It wasn't on the menu now, for certain - she'd memorized that ten times over once it had been finalized. She thought back to when she had been hired on, and how she'd gone through the menu and tossed out anything that didn't fit with the cafe's vision. Then, Ichiro had rescinded most of her choices, and they were stuck with trash like the three-cheese grilled on the menu. She managed to remember that the protein king burger was one of the items that she'd taken off initially that Ichiro hadn't put back on. Apparently, it never sold since it was way too heavy for the appetites of most normal people. Ah geez, Momo thought, wincing. "Sorry, but we recently retooled our menu, and we no longer serve the Protein King burger. And I'm not even sure we have the recipe on hand..." Kotaro probably had it, but Momo didn't exactly want to bother someone in the hospital for the whims of a single customer. "If you want to look at the menu, we have a lot of other items that might be similar?" |

Chidori's bright and happy face immediately shifted into shock and disappointment. 'What...?' She lowered her gaze to the counter, unable to believe it was true. She had been craving this burger for days. She dreamed of eating it just earlier this week. She worked as hard as she had due in no small part to the anticipation of once again basking in the savory splendor of that glorious meal. And now she learned she would never see it again. 'But my protein....' She mumbled, still staring at the counter. |

"Hgk." Momo did not physically recoil, but it felt as though an arrow had pierced her heart when Chihiro's expression changed. She just looked so sad, and it didn't feel right leaving a customer so thoroughly dissatisfied. Momo frowned, crossing her arms and humming in thought. "Well..." She glanced over to the entrance, noting that no one else was coming in, and then back to Chidori. Damnit, she was cute, too. This girl worked out. I'm so weak, Momo lamented to herself. "Do you remember what was on it? I can try and recreate it for you." She smiled sympathetically. "Our old head chef doesn't work here anymore, so I don't exactly know what was on it, unfortunately." |

Chidori's eyes lit up once again as the nice chef offered to try and recreate the burger. She nodded vigorously. 'Alright!' Now she just needed to remember what was on the damn thing. She placed her hand over her mouth as she thought. It had been a very long time since she had had one, so a lot of the details were a little hazy. She did have a vague idea of what went on it, though. 'Umm... It had... lean beef patties, definitely. Then... swiss cheese. I think a fried egg was involved? And spinach... Also octopus, I can't remember how it was prepared though...' She stroked her chin as she deliberated on what else she remembered, before a lightbulb went off. 'Oh! and one of the patties was definitely a portabello mushroom!' There! Hopefully that was enough to get her golden meal back. |

A pen and a notepad came out of Momo's back pocket, and she began to write down the ingredients as Chidori listed them off. It started off relatively simply - beef patties, swiss cheese, a fried egg. Spinach, unconventional, but sure. Then octopus? And a portabello mushroom as a bun? Momo punctuated these items on the list with a '???' before looking at Chidori questioningly. She didn't remember the item on the last menu being that ridiculous. "You're, uh, sure about those last two? This was really on the menu?" Did she still have Kotaro's number? She was definitely going to call him later, because what the fuck. |

The chef seemed skeptical of the toppings Chidori had listed, calling into question all of Chidori's memories of the burger. Was she possibly misremembering it? After all, spinach was a pretty weird thing to put on a burger... Chidori sighed. 'Well, now I don't know.' She was starting to resign to the fact that she was never going to see the Protein King again. She sighed again. 'It's alright, you don't have to try to make it. Do you have any suggestions that might be similar? Something really high in protein, obviously.' |

Momo shook her head vigorously - oh no, they weren't stopping now. Now, she was interested. Despite whatever grievances they had gone through in the past, Momo had always respected Kotaro as a chef. But an octopus-mushroom burger? She just had to know. "Oh no, I'll get you your protein king burger. I have the previous chef on my phone, and well, no one's here right now." She pulled out her phone, flipping through her contacts before getting to Kotaro's number. She dialed him, tilting her head to grip the cell phone between her shoulder and her ear while still holding the paper and pen at the ready. "This is wholly unprofessional, but - ah, Kotaro! Phew, you picked up. I have a question about a, uh, 'protein king' burger?" "Oh no." "What?" "Is it that really fit girl?" "Uhh... yeah." "Oh geez. Look, I didn't make this recipe. You're gonna have to deal with it, though." "What? Where did it - oh, never mind, just hit me with it." "Well..." The chef on the other end of the line began rattling off ingredients, which Momo wrote down with increasing concern as they got to some of the more exotic ingredients on the list. She never would have thought about the part with the cottage cheese. "Alright, is that all? Excellent, thanks darling. Gotta get back to work now." Momo hung up the phone and sighed, giving Chidori a smile. "Well, that was easier than I thought. He, uh... seemed to remember you? You've ordered this before, I'm assuming." |
