I'm the best! I'm the king of me! I'm gonna eat chips out of the garbage!

Name: Makoto Nakagawa (中川 誠)
Gender: Male
Age: 18

Class: Taiyoutono 3-2 (Previously in 2-2)

Clubs/Occupation: Acting. He was a member of the Student Council last year, but he chose not to rerun for reasons known only to him.

Personality: To most of the student body of Taiyoutono, Makoto is a genuinely enjoyable person to be around, if something of a catty gossip. He's personable and loves to joke around, and is always happy to help out (especially if you're a cute girl). He's can easily sit down and talk with you for hours, and he tries not to make it too boring. He's naturally good at picking up languages, though his accent's pretty terrible, and plans on becoming an English teacher after graduation. His dream's to someday become a family man, with a wife, two kids, and a teaching job for that little bit of excitement he needs in his life. He's got a bit of a mischievous streak though, and probably his most overt flaw is that he's a huge gossip; he picks up a lot of rumors from his many female friends, and it's well known that he runs the anonymous gossip rag known as the "Love Report".

And that's exactly how Makoto wants people to view him.

Behind the mask, Makoto is a cruel, uncaring person who revels just a little too much in the violence he inflicts on others. There is only one thing Makoto particularly cares about, aside from his brother, and it is maintaining his happy, boring, normal life outside the ruins. He would gladly throw any of his "friends" to the wolves the moment it became useful for him, and mostly uses them to help him gather dirt on the people around him for any future blackmail or other uses. He has little empathy for other human beings, and generally sees them as lesser than himself, which, in his opinion, gives him free reign to attack them physically or mentally if need be. He has particular disdain for those who abuse their Persona ability and try to disrupt the social order, and has often taken it upon himself to deal with them as he sees fit. He's far from the cool and collected "chessmaster", though; Makoto's prone to throwing tantrums and making messy mistakes as he descends further into debauchery, especially if there's not someone around to advise him otherwise.

He has a bit too much of a talent for putting on acts, a skill honed through years of practice; in childhood, it was in switching places and mannerisms with his brother to trick foster parents and schoolmates; in highschool, it was through hours of practice with the Drama Club. His most common usage of this talent is in mimicking his brother; just part his bangs on the other side of his head, put on an angrier face, and suddenly he's not Makoto anymore, he's Yu, and he can take advantage of any benefits being Yu gives him.

His relationship with Yu is complex. He and his brother are close, having grown up together, but ever since Makoto found out about Yu hiring a private investigator to find out their paternity, their relationship has been strained. Yu being in danger is a good way to send Makoto into a frenzy, but at the same time, he can't help but feel like he wants to strangle him every now and then, and it doesn't take much for Yu to piss Makoto off lately. Still, it's not much of an exaggeration to say that Yu is the only real person who can hold Makoto back when he's about to do something stupid.

History: Yu and Makoto Nakagawa have never known their actual parents. Having been given up for adoption shortly after birth, the two spent most of their lives in orphanages and foster homes, miraculously having never been separated during their many years in the foster system. With the knowledge that the only constant in their lives were each other, the twins grew to care only for each other and themselves, and rebuffed most of their foster families. They moved around the country often, leaving their orphanage in Nagashima to live in other cities in other prefectures however temporarily, before being moved back and repeating the cycle again.

When the twins were sixteen, however, they were picked up by a new foster family: the wealthy Nakagawa family. A husband and wife, the two had tried and failed for many years to conceive, and needed someone to carry on their family name. The twins were adopted specifically to fulfill this process, and though their new parents were distant and uncaring, the two gladly took on their new family's surname. They'd hit the jackpot, as far as foster parents went, and not only that, they they had some semblance of stability in their lives, and neither wanted to be the one to ruin this for the other. Shortly after their adoption, the twins tested into Taiyoutono, and moved into the dormitories a little ways off campus. For the first year of high school, the twins focused on adjusting to their new, much more stable life. While Yu seemed to be testing the limits for how much of a stick in the ass one could be, Makoto had busied himself with meeting new people at his new school and striking up friendships with them, particularly the young, cute girls who were looking for an equally young and cute English tutor to help them on their way.

Early into their second year of high school, two important things happened for the twins. The first was that they were both elected onto the Student Council, largely a result of Makoto's efforts to drum up support among the student body. The second was that rumors of a butterfly that led students into an abandoned laboratory had begun to circulate among the student body. At Makoto's urging, the twins began to investigate the rumors, hoping to find some modicum of truth in them... only to become a part of them when the two were simultaneously whisked to the ruins themselves.

Shortly after their awakening, Makoto discovered that Yu had, behind his back, hired a private investigator to find out who their biological parents were. The results were sobering: their mother had been a teenager, who'd been raped by her teacher and become pregnant with twins after it. While their biological father was jailed for the crime, their mother had given the twins up to the system and relinquished all claims to them.

Makoto didn't take the news well, both because of the truth of who their parents were, but also because Yu had gone behind his back to have it investigated in the first place. The trust between him and Yu had been broken, and though Makoto made an effort to seem happy go lucky and okay with everything, dissatisfaction bubbled within him. He knew that, if the news got out about who their real parentage was, it would be all too easy for their scumbag of a father to come back and swoop them up, into a life neither of them wanted, and Yu had opened the doors for that up by getting a paternity test done. And when Makoto fell ill with Hoculus later that year, it was this exact insecurity of his that the disease preyed upon, encouraging him to stand on his own and do whatever he needed to maintain his happy, secure life.

For the next few months, Makoto rarely ever made waves. He would post on Bedlam to rile people up, or occasionally dip into the ruins to train himself. And when he was around other people, he certainly seemed to be the same Makoto as he always was. But when it was just him and Yu, or just him alone, a darker, more cruel side of Makoto tended to surface. One that was all too happy to threaten or maim someone just to make a point.

Following the ascension of Samurakami Road and Building over the backstreets, Makoto immediately inserted himself into the group's structure, first by offering his English tutoring talents to a girl he'd learned was a close confidante of Samurakami's: Chieko Sato, a high schooler at Reitaku. It was through her that he learned of her intense hate for Samurakami, due to her murder of Chieko's banchou and lover, Daisuke Hino. The two worked together to undermine Samurakami's group from within, hoping to eventually bring her down and return things to the way they had once been. Or at least, that was the plan. Unfortunately for Makoto, Samurakami decided to instead get herself killed fighting Aleksandria Fyodor, suddenly leaving the pseudo-yakuza group without a head.

At the same time this was occurring, Yu suddenly came down with Hoculus during the second wave of cases. Though Makoto did his best to visit every day, his mental state began to deteriorate as Yu stayed in the hospital for longer and longer periods of time. And shortly after Yu was hospitalized, Makoto discovered that their biological father was soon to be getting out of jail.

Makoto went into full panic mode. First, he attempted to approach the remnants of Samurakami's group, only to be rebuffed as they were in the process of rebuilding following their founder's death. Then, he went to Chika Nakadachi, and the two formulated a plan to get Makoto's father back in jail. The two ended up backing out after Seiji Fujiwara confronted them on it. Makoto started acting in a manic manner, taking late night strolls, getting into fights with gangs and other Persona users, and generally not acting in a way you'd consider someone with full control of their mental faculties to act.

Eventually, Yu too recovered from Hoculus. With one stressor off his shoulders, Makoto was able to relax for a bit... but only just a bit. Because as much as he tries to act to the contrary, the looming threat of his biological father's return still looms over his head, and Makoto is only growing more and more desperate with time...

Appearance: An average height and build young adult, having officially graduated from "teenager" upon reaching his third year in high school. With chin length silver hair, which he parts over one eye, and a naturally handsome face, Makoto very much looks the part of the handsome pretty boy. Since he's nearsighted, he wears glasses, which only serves to increase his sex appeal in his opinion. Though he's loath to admit it, he's also colorblind, though that doesn't seem to be natural, since his brother doesn't share this trait. Apparently it's the result of a childhood injury, but Makoto doesn't remember it happening.

While in school, he wears his uniform loosely, leaving the jacket unzipped and the vest open for the world to see. Outside of school, he tends to wear faux designer clothes, the grand majority of which having been picked up from a thrift store on his meager allowance. He puts a lot of effort into his appearance, trying to look just the right amount of casual that he still looks good. However, when he's trying to sneak around and hide his identity, Makoto prefers a black hoodie, one with just the right size hood for him to easily hide his face.

He's easily mistaken for his brother, Yu, due to being identical twins with him, and generally all it takes to make people think he's Yu is to shift his mannerisms to match Yu's. When on campus, this is easy enough: just part your hair the other way and zip up your jacket, and look a little grumpier. Outside of school, he tends to actually have to put effort into this, since he and Yu have very different manners of dress.

Some very old art, if you need the visual reference.

Current Weapon/Combat Skill: Makoto's weapon of choice is a nasty looking switchblade, which he picked up through methods known only to himself. Though it's convenient for battle and threats both, he's not afraid to abandon it and instead get very directly physical. He rarely fights fairly, and when fighting people, he fights with clear intent to debilitate and humiliate than to win.
Mask: A plain black half mask, covering the right side of his face. A white glass lens covers the right eye, replacing Makoto’s glasses. The mask forms a whole mask when placed together with Yu’s.

Persona: A man wearing Roman armor and a furred cape. He almost always looks sad for some reason. Much of his body is bloodied, particularly his right arm and legs, where there were rather clearly deep wounds.
