"Well..." As if to answer Shane's query in her place, the bathroom door opened with a distinctive squeak. From the opening of the kitchen's doorway, she witnessed her father, clad in nothing but a towel tied around his waist, making a beeline for his bedroom. He grumbled something that she identified as a "good night" before stepping in and swinging the door shut. "...I think that answers it." She squeezed his hand lightly, keeping her eyes on the wooden rectangle of her parents' - no, her father's - room for a few moments. "I don't hold that against him. I mean, what can he really tell us at this point? These all go the same way." And, after a few seconds: "That's how he is. He'll need some time to sort his thoughts out." But enough of that! Her father was a big boy anyways, he could defend himself without her help. "It's up to you. But if you're asking me... I would very much like it if you stayed, at least a little more." |

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"

Shane glanced briefly back at the man as he entered stage right and promptled exited stage left. He snorted at Natsumi's answer. "I wasn't asking him, I was asking you, and I was thinking more about how you want tomorrow morning to play out," Shane clarified with an amused smile, turning his eyes back to her. "But if you don't mind me sticking around, I sure as hell won't pass it up. I feel like I'll sleep like a log tonight. Not really looking forward to walking all the way home." He leaned back, glancing in the direction of Natsumi's bedroom. "Did we actually wake you up when we got in, or were you still awake?" he asked. He was already in such a state of foggy-headed contentedness just sitting here that he couldn't clearly recall what Natsumi's face had looked like when she'd first poked her head out. |

How she wanted tomorrow morning to play out? Well, now that he asked, that was something worth putting some thought into. Mostly, it depended on what he wanted to do - she'd follow him along, whatever he did, if only because she felt like spending some time with him. Not out of gratitude, mind you, though that was definitely a thing, but simply... out of a plain will to spend some quality time with her boyfriend. "Well, it all depends on how you wanna spend tomorrow morning. Which is only in a couple of hours anyways." she said, glancing at the clock - it was well past 3. She shook her head. "Nah, I was actually trying to get back to sleep, guess I woke up because I was a bit thirsty. That's when you two came in. I thought Dad was already asleep, so it surprised me, y'know?" Natsumi replied, shrugging her shoulders. Nothing more than a big, dumb coincidence. "So you don't have to beat yourself up: you didn't wake your precious girlfriend up. Wanna move to my room?" |

"I always want to wake up next to you in the morning," Shane answered, smiling as if it should have been obvious — but as if he took pleasure in saying it anyway. When she asked if they wanted to move to her room, he nodded and couldn't stifle a yawn at the thought. He'd been out late, later than he usually was, but it was a necessary part of the job. The butterfly did not discriminate when it came to what time of the day it whisked away potential Persona-users. And unlike the police officers who had to work long hours during the day, Shane had the luxury of sleeping in the afternoon. He checked his phone, and sure enough, there was the text from the girl who would be patrolling the ruins for the rest of the night. He'd sent her one on the way over, reporting that he'd found someone and that they were safe. Funnily enough, he'd never met this girl outside of the ruins, or even on his way out after a patrol. All he knew about her was that she'd moved away from Nagashima for a time... and then moved back recently, and voluntarily, so that she could continue to fight the good fight. In short, the only things he knew about Shizuka Setsuko was that she had to be at least a little bit crazy, and that she had some personal reason for wanting to be on regular patrol for new Persona-users. When she'd messaged about setting up a rotation schedule, he hadn't argued or asked why she was so adamant about it, he'd just gone along with it. She took the early morning hours, he took the late night. It worked. That was all that mattered. The message simply read: Good work tonight. Starting my patrol now. Sleep well. He pocketed the phone. She was very to-the-point, whoever she was. Which was good, because Shane wasn't in the mood for any long text chats or complicated debriefings right now. |

Natsumi's lips immediately curled into a slight, appreciative smile at Shane's little comment. Always a mind for sly wit, didn't he? "You charmer." she commented dryly as she stood up from her chair and stretched her arms above her head. Truth be told, she wouldn't have been against a right good rogering to top off the day for good and sleep like a baby, but if Shane was too tired for it, she could wait and be satisfied with simply laying at his side. Perhaps some people could have drawn some guilt from that situation, knowing that there were people fighting every night to help the helpless while they didn't, reaping the rewards of their hard work in the form of... well, their family members being alive, for one thing. She didn't. Her bedroom was as he'd always known it - spacious, and filled with more or less every important object in her life. She sat down on the bed and ran a hand through her hair. "Say, I know this is out of left field... But do you think I should grow my hair out again?" |

Shane sat himself down next to Natsumi. When she asked about her hair, he began to give her an appraising look as if considering the question, but then a memory hit him in the face (metaphorically) and he spaced out for a second. He vaguely remembered a snappish woman's first reaction to his appearance the last time he'd been in the ruins and another Persona-user's parent had turned up down there: Listen! The first thing you should do when you get home is throw out those damned pants of yours! Torn jeans don't make ya look cool, they make ya look like ya ain't got no care fer yerself! Second, chop that hair o' yers down to a decent length! Men ain't meant t' have long hair! Look at this young man! Hair cut properly, shirt tucked in, properly stitched pants. He looks like a man who is going to have a paying job when he's an adult. While you? You look like a hippie. "I like you with short hair, it gives me easy access to that beautiful neck of yours," he answered, a few beats too late to have not obviously missed one. He knew it wasn't really an answer to what he thought of her looks, but it was the first one that came into his head. He winced a bit, and reached up to his own hair, lacking the old coloring he'd used to use (he'd decided a while ago it was more than a bit much) but still tied back in a ponytail. Quite as much out of left field , he asked: "Do you think I should cut mine?" He wasn't about to take Sachiko's criticism of his pants seriously when he only ever wore ripped jeans in the first place when they'd gotten torn up in a fight with Shadows, but her snapping at him about his hair had stuck with him a bit harder than he'd thought at the time. Did he really look like he had no care for himself? Or was she just an old-fashioned shrew like he wanted to think? Well, whatever. It wasn't as if Shane was trying to impress Greenhair Junior's mom. But he'd still feel better if he got a second opinion from Natsumi. |

"Course you do. But that's a good argument for it." Natsumi replied with a light chuckle, letting her head rest on Shane's shoulder. She liked the sharp, stylish edge her short hair gave her - it was also fairly low-maintenance, which was just the cherry on top. "I was thinking of buying myself a suit after paying my hairstyler a visit. Y'know, all smart and formal-like, with a pair of slacks and pumps?" That was nothing more than an idea going through her head, but she wanted his honest opinion on it. She played a bit with his hair, and shook her head. "No, you're fine like that. Makes you more handsome when you let it down, and I'm sure it makes you more fearsome to the Shadows as well." she joked with a grin on her lips. As long as it didn't hinder him in combat, too... |
