Ugly Crying
Name: Sanae Ichikawa (市川早苗)
Gender: Female
Age: 28

Class: N/A

Clubs/Occupation: Detective with the Nagashima police force. Specializes in Juvenile Crime.

Personality: Sanae is kind-hearted and calm woman who strives to be the best possible person she can be. She often comes off as motherly, usually making sure her coworkers have enough coffee and power naps to make it through the cases that take them late into the night. She also likes to check in with them too, asking them about their families and what their plans are for their days off. It doesn't matter who it is, she just has to be kind to them.

Part of this is why she specialized in juvenile crime. Unlike a lot of people she knows, who would prefer it if delinquents and other crime-committing children were just thrown in jail, she believes there is good in most people and feels that if she gives these kids a chance, then maybe they can become better members of the community in the future. Perhaps they'll even thank her one day for it?

Of course, at the end of the day, she is still a police officer, and will enforce the laws if needed. Despite her usual chipper and bubbly attitude, when a conflict arises, she becomes serious quickly. Sanae will make the most appropriate decision expected for a detective.

She is quite aware that she works in a traditionally male-dominated field, and goes out of her way to show that she is a woman. She believe it's a passive agressive middle finger to the men who don't think she as competent as them, and feels that she is to everyone that a woman can do this job.

History: Sanae was the second of three children born to Kotone and Hiroki Ichikawa in Nagashima. Her father worked as a detective on the police force, while her mother was a retired singer and actress who now trained and mentored young boys and girls going into her old profession. But Kotone was never satisfied with her students. She wanted more. None of the children ever came close to the natural talent she had for singing. They would never be able to give her the fame she once had. Kotone thought of a solution, she could train her children from a young age to become singers and actors. It sounded good in theory, but she ran into some problems.

Sanae's older brother, Tomohiro, was adamant on not doing it because the six year old at the time found it "lame" and prefered to play sports with his friends. Sanae's younger sister, Hiyori was shy and was too young to preform. So naturally, Sanae was the obvious choice for Kotone.

Sanae was always a kind and bubbly child who loved to be the centre of attention. The singing and dancing lessons she was taken to was just another way to get attention, and she originally thought it was a game of sorts. Naturally, she wanted to do her very best at the talents. After a few years, it became less fun for Sanae and more of another chore on her to-do list. She began to think the whole thing was pointless, she never actually did anything. Sanae participated in some competitions, and won a few, but at this post on her life, she felt it was a waste of money.

Kotone wouldn't hear it though, she never let anything like being tired or unmotivated stop her from reaching stardom. So she pushed Sanae even more, despite the protests from her daughter and the rest of her family. It became an obsession for Sanae's mother, who often managed every last bit of Sanae's life. Hiroki was irritated because it seemed his wife was paying too much attention to one child and not the other two. His job as a detective didn't let him take care of his children at times due to the hectic schedule, so Sanae's brother and sister were often left at their Aunt's house. When she was twelve, she realized she didn't have a strong relationship with her siblings or father.

In school, she wasn't very popular. No one actually bullied her or anything, but she found it hard to make friends because of her schedules. However, when she began high school, she found more people flocked to her, and started to make some friends. Which was surprising, as Kotone got worse in these years. In her mother's eyes, these were the years that singers got noticed by large companies, and Sanae had to be absolutely perfect.

Sanae was often absent from school, and didn't have any time for clubs. She often became envious of her friends when they talked about the fun things they did in clubs. And all she had been doing that day was photo shoots and singing lessons. The school didn't exactly like her absence, and forced her mother to make all these activities after school. Which resulted in late nights for Sanae.

Around her second year of high school, things took a drastic turn. Her parents fought more, and her father began working late more often. Sanae was never afraid though, her father always came home unharmed. However it appeared his luck wore out when he was shot during an armed standoff with a suspect. Hiroki was shot, and while be didn't die, the bullet severed the spinal cord from his waist down, resulting in paralysis.

It was hard for the family to adjust with Hiroki's injuries. They had lost a source of income and the situation seemed grim. Sanae's aunt Haruka volunteered to live with the family to help care for Hiroki, and to provide some money.

Sanae expected her mother to be there for her husband, but Kotone dramatically told the family one day that "this is too much for me to bear! I'm leaving, and taking Sanae with me!" Everyone was upset, but Sanae was disgusted. She doesn't remember what she exactly told her mother, all she remembers is the stinging slap she received for saying it.

After the incident, Kotone left without much of a fight, though she wouldn't even look at Sanae when she did. Though despite how horrible it was, it seemed that things became better after she left. Everyone laughed and smiled more, Sanae made more friend and even joined a couple of clubs. She didn't need to worry about all the stress that her mother gave her. It was around this age that she realized that her mother was reliving her dream of becoming famous again through her daughter.

Soon she realized that she actually didn't know what she wanted to do with her life. It was implied since she was a child that she was to become a singer or actress, but things had changed now. The answer came when her older brother told his father that he wouldn't pursue a career in law enforcement. Tomohiro was supposed to continue the line of police officers in the family. Sanae wondered if her father would take it well, which he did surprisingly. But she could see his disappointment. Her mind was made up on this day.

After she finished her third year, she told her father her plan to become a detective. And he was overjoyed, and was happy that she chose a more respectable career in his eyes. After many years of schooling and many exams to write, Sanae became a detective. She was eager to help protect the city, but with the news of incidents occurring frequently, her mother trying to get back in touch with her, and her allowing a teenage boy to love with her for a whole... Well, it won't be easy.

Appearance: Sanae stands at 5'6" and weighs around 115 lbs. Her hair is a dark purple colour that is also always styled in a loose ponytail. Her skin is slightly tan and usually clear of blemishes. Her eyes are are light blue and usually have a pair of rectangular, red-framed glasses over them.

Sanae has a athletic build from running and working out to keep in shape due to her job. Unlike many of her female coworkers who seem to have a tendency to dress less feminine, Sanae does not, she likes to dress more feminine herself.

Her outfits vary depending on her mood and the day. Some days she will come to work in gray or black pantsuits, to blouses and pencil skirts, to even just a cardigan and jeans. On her off days, she wears sweaters and t-shirts with jeans, or a hoodie with leggings and running shoes if she is one a run or heading to the gym.

Weapon: While Sanae does possess a firearm due to her job, she often fights using the training she received in aikido.
